Look at Major now!!
His hair is growing back nicely 😊 ( the white is where the dead skin is shedding from the flea allergy / reaction)
The intense itching had taken a toll on his whole personality.
He still has a very long way to go but we are confident he’ll get there!!

🩷A Thoughtful Way to Honour Loved Ones Without Harming Wildlife🩷

🫂At Mallydams, we understand how meaningful it is to honour the memory of a loved one. Many people find solace in symbolic gestures, like releasing balloons into the sky, to express their grief and love.

However, we’d like to share a heartfelt truth: while beautiful in the moment, balloons don’t simply vanish when they drift out of sight, neither do those marketed as biodegradable. They often return to the earth in fragments, posing serious threats to wildlife. Birds, marine animals, and other creatures can mistake balloon debris for food or become entangled, leading to injury or even death.

We’re not here to judge or criticise—grief is deeply personal, and finding ways to remember those we’ve lost is so important. Instead, we’d love to offer some alternative, environmentally gentle ways to create a lasting tribute:

🌳Plant a tree or flowers: A living, growing memorial that nurtures the environment and provides a home for wildlife.

🦋Create a memory garden: A special spot filled with their favorite plants or decorations.

🫧Fly kites or blow bubbles: A joyful, biodegradable way to watch your love drift into the sky.

🕯️Light a candle: A simple, peaceful way to honor their memory.

🤗Support a cause they cared about: Dedicate your time or resources to making the world a better place in their name.

Every action we take, no matter how small, has an impact. By choosing an environmentally friendly memorial, you not only celebrate your loved one but also help protect the wildlife and landscapes they may have cherished.

If you’d like more guidance or have your own ideas for eco-conscious memorials, we’d be happy to help. Let’s work together to honor memories while safeguarding the natural world for generations to come

We often go a while without posting anything. This is usually because we are busy helping animals that can’t have their story shared.

We currently have one such chap with us 😕.
We can’t give out his full story but we will share his healing journey with you.

This is Major, he has a long road ahead of him. We took him into our care earlier in the week and rushed him straight to Medivet. Major has a serious flea infestation and allergy. He was given steroids and needs regular check ups to monitor.

Unfortunately, Major has little social skills! This is something we see a lot of and hopefully with lots of positive training, he will improve 🤞🏼

We are NOT accepting any enquiries for Major at this time but will post regular updates as often as we can.
Thank you.

Bagheera, is adult black cat who came into branch care via the Greater Manchester Animal Hospital back in 2023.

We were concerned that he would be overlooked for one of our many other multi coloured cats or kittens as so many black cats are.

He was adopted at the end of 2023 by a family who had previously adopted one of our elderly black cats called Saffy. She had sadly just passed away and they wanted to offer another cat their home to grow old in.

Moving forwards to 2025- Bagheera’s family contacted us at the beginning of this month, just over a year after adopting him, asking about his back story and to let us know he has turned into an amazing cat 🐈‍⬛

Thank you for giving Bagheera his loving home after loosing Saffy so suddenly. ♥️♥️

I am sure you remember our little Dachsund Matilda who needed rehoming, her new family have given us an update and we thought we would share it with you all.

Matilda is a very happy girl, she loves to play with her toys; she has her own toy tub full to the brim that she helps herself too.
Even though she has her own fleecy igloo bed she prefers to tunnel her way into our blankets at bedtime.

She sleeps through the night and in the morning often just sticks her nose out of the blankets to say help but stays all cosy and warm until nature calls.

She uses her dog flap and happily takes herself off into the garden to do her business.

She loves sitting in the garden watching the birds and the world go by, it is one of her many happy places.

She has made friends with other family members dogs, introductions were gradual but now she plays zoomies with them.

She is still a little unsure about the outside world but we continue to work with her on this and we are confident in time she will become as confident outside her garden as she is inside.

We are so happy to have in our lives, our bed and snuggled up beside us. ♥️

Update - Roman is now adopted ♥️♥️♥️

This super handsome chap is approximately 2 years old. He is a standard size, (not miniature) chocolate Dachshund.

Roman is a very busy chap and loves being out and about getting his nose into anything he can.

He’s very well mannered on a lead and knows lots of commands.
He really is a fantastic dog, but…. Roman likes most other dogs but not all dogs!
He likes most cats but not all cats!
He likes most humans but not all humans!
There is absolutely no pattern to his preferences.
He has shown NO signs of aggression but will bark at who or what he dislikes.

With this in mind, we would look to home Roman with children over primary age and several meetings prior to adoption would be an advantage. Especially if he is to join a home with other pets.

If you’d like to adopt Roman please email [email protected] for a perfect match form.

Meet and greets will only go ahead when we have received perfect match forms.

An adoption fee of £400 applies.

This is the face of someone's unwanted Christmas present ⤵️

10-week-old Border Collie puppy, Nanna, arrived at RSPCA Sussex West Branch last week after being purchased as a Christmas present for a family member.

While she won't be spending her first Christmas with a forever family, thankfully she has a loving foster carer looking after her until she's ready to start her search for a permanent place to call home.

Choosing to have a pet isn't a decision to be taken lightly, and isn't a decision which should be made on behalf of others.

We urge you to refrain from gifting animals to family and friends as Christmas presents and only choosing to rehome an animal if you are prepared for the long-term commitment.

Please share Nanna's story to raise awareness 🔄

⚠️ Important information for dog walkers.

If you’re using a public right of way please clear up after your pet to help prevent the spread of neosporosis, an infectious disease that can be dangerous to cattle, dogs and other wildlife.

Neosporosis is spread when neospora eggs are produced by infected dogs and excreted in their faeces. Cattle will become infected if they eat grass or drink water contaminated with the eggs.

Neosporosis can cause abortions in cattle and is thought to be responsible for the highest percentage of all cattle abortions reported in the UK. It can also cause illness in adult dogs and death in young puppies.
