I am excited to be going over to work with Rick van Eggermond and his team to share a day of obedience sport filled fun ๐Ÿ˜Š

SOOOOOOOOโ€ฆโ€ฆ We have something exciting for you all coming up after the summer holidays!

One of Rickโ€™s colleagues from the Victoria Stilwell Academy is Jo Pay who you may recognise from The Dog Academy on Channel 4.

She is coming to our training barn on Sunday 22nd September to run a fun filled Rally Obedience workshop!

Hereโ€™s a little bit about Jo and and what this day will be all about!

Jo Pay, has been a dog trainer for 28 years, running classes, working on behaviour cases, and starring on Channel 4โ€™s The Dog Academy!
Jo is a Kennel Club Rally Judge, she competed with her dogs Indie, who achieved Excellence status at all 6 levels at competition, and with Twist, who has just started out by winning at his first competition.

This workshop will suit pet owners who enjoy doing new activities with their dogs, anyone who trains dog obedience, dog trainers who want to add something a little different as additional enrichment to their existing classes.

Handlers of all ages and abilities can take part in Rally and there are no age or breed restrictions for dogs in this fun sport.
KC Rally Obedience is a fun sport aimed at pet dogs and their owners who want to train together, learning to navigate a course of obedience style stations, having fun, improving focus & communication and even competing if they choose to.

There are over 60 different stations across 6 levels, giving a limitless number of challenges and courses for dog and handler, this really is the sport that keeps on giving!

The really good thing about KC Rally is that you can play with it and practise easily in your home, garden and out on your walks, no special equipment is needed.
KC Rally can help to promote good communication skills between dogs and owners, increase dogsโ€™ concentration on their owner and boosts dogs and owners confidence.
There are lots of KC Rally trials and competitions run around the UK and with the skills learned on this course could give you the boost to join a new competitive sport with your dog.

In the workshop you will learnโ€ฆ
Foundation of the rules of KC RallyO
RallyO station signs
How to lay a RallyO course
Handling skills for obedience sports
How to use reinforcement for obedience sports
Canine Conditioning exercises that will support the physicality of the sport

I've always remembered as a child
'If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all' ~Thumper

That's why I don't often comment on TV Dog Training ๐Ÿ™„

So last night I watched The Dog Academy on C4 and it was just everything I'd wish for on TV and how to present it to the general public.

I love, love loved it. ๐Ÿฅฐ

What did I like about it?

1) I loved how the trainers did questioning to the clients, asked them how they felt, along with some straight talking. It demonstrated the trainer's were not working as directive coaches, which is common in dog training and had a more non directive approach which is better for human learning. Victoria has grown so much as a trainer compared to her first TV appearances โค๏ธ I'm a massive Kamal fan anyway and Sean and Adam were just lovely and loved the training they did with the dogs. Can't wait to see Nancy and Jo do their thing next week ๐Ÿ™„

2) I loved how they looked at the whole situation and how it was influencing the problem. Relationship, wellbeing, needs. Seeing how shouting at the dog all the time affects the relationship. Understanding the underlying reason why the dog was behaving like it was and supporting it.

3) I loved the Freework, Scentwork, Positive reinforcement training and Desensitisation.

4) All the trainer's were fabulous, I loved how each team had the lovely one and the straight talking one.

5) I loved that things did quite go swimmingly at the start, that's how dog training happens.

And finally the stooge dog that was used was just perfect to support the Chi's needs. It's play behaviour was really lovely to watch. It takes a very special kind of dog to be a stooge, this was definitely one of those very special dogs.

Can't wait till next week ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

We really need to encourage more TV like this as the public will often try stuff they see on the TV, so watch it and talk about it as when it comes to TV it's all about the ratings.

Massive well done to the trainer's and the production company for making some brilliant dog training TV that's going to help both dog owners and dogs too ๐Ÿพ โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Welcome to The Dog Academy!! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
I am so excited to be able to show the world the first trailer of this amazing new TV show that I worked on during last summer.
It was a privilege to work with Vikki Zeiler, Nanci Creedon, Adam Daines , Kamal Fernandez and Shaun Brown, what a team! Also introducing Grace the welcome committee and Dan the driver.
The series creator had a great idea and we all worked hard together to bring the show into being.
There has never been a dog training TV show like this and I hope you love it as much as I do!
More information to come soon, but for now, enjoy the trailer - blink and you will miss me right at the end - that cheer - my fab clients know it well!!

Okay - so, clearly I have a a bee in my bonnet!! (where did that saying come from?)
But... this article is how I feel! We all have a choice in how we behave, in dog training and in all walks of life! How often do we hear the words "be kind" -vs- how often we really do behave that way?
Holding ourselves accountable is uncomfortable, but it's really valuable!

There are a few phrases that really push my buttons. When talking to trainers, the one that will always get a reaction from me is "I had to." It very often turns out there were other options available.
