Love a Schnauzer! As a holistic groomer we take into account count the dog’s tolerance and adapt the groom required by the owner with what is most comfortable for the dog. Rita has her jacket handstripped but we clip everywhere else as she doesn’t like being handstripped other than her back and sides. Originally her owners wanted her fully handstripped but we have worked together to get a happy medium between wishes and comfort. Rita is gorgeous, cheeky, mischievous and totally comfortable being groomed. ❤️❤️❤️

This beautiful girly doesn’t overly like being groomed and tries to jump off the table. At Short Bark and Sides we use an adjustable body harnesses on dogs to keep them safe on the table whilst grooming. No pulling on the neck from a neck noose, no chance they can jump off and hang from the neck and they feel more comfortable,calm secure and less “trapped” making the grooming experience better all round. The harness is kept on for the whole groom and releases on each side to enable you to groom whilst keeping your dog safe. Photo below of one of our doggy clients wearing the harness. Maggie & Xena in for their grooms. Every 8 weeks these two run in and are so excited to see us. We just love the cuddles they give us. Maggie, has her teeth cleaned every groom, Xena won’t let us do it so we don’t push her. The dog’s welfare always comes first at Short Bark and Sides.

This is Holistic Grooming in practice.

Storm is very nervous of the bath and the dryers. I allowed her to wander the salon and stop where she felt comfortable. She was given encouragement and treats. The table was to the floor and she happily climbed onto it when asked to but I didn’t restrain her in anyway, so she got off when she wanted. This exercise helps Storm feel confident and build trust with us as she is not forced or confined. I accommodated her needs rather than mine and dried her with the gentle stand dryer on the floor, de-shedded her coat sitting on the floor and cut her nails sitting in the floor. I asked Storm to come to me every time and didn’t force her, as she needs to come willingly and with trust. It is consent based grooming. The groom was completed fully and calmly and the owner has agreed to pop in weekly so I can continue to build trust and a relationship with Storm. Storm left the salon, clean, shiny and looking fab and I was happy knowing she had been groomed gently and had started to build the trust with me. I feel very lucky to work with dogs like Storm and help them to have a pleasant rather than a fearful grooming experience.
