𝗔𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝘂𝘀 – 𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. ❄️ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹? 🌡 We all know what it’s like, as soon as we need to wear a warm coat for yard jobs, we get the horse’s rugs out of storage. 😁

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗿-𝗱𝗼𝗲𝗿𝘀:
If your horse is prone to losing condition, simply putting a rug on, even if only at night, will help conserve body heat as temperatures start to drop.
Grass is now likely to be of reduced nutritional value so feeding hay or haylage in the field, if appropriate, keeps fibre intake up and has the added advantage of warming the horse from within as heat is generated during its fermentation in the hind gut.

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗯𝗯𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀:
A drop in temperature will encourage the body to burn fat stores to keep warm and additional forage need only be provided when grass quantities are really insufficient to meet fibre requirements.
