I adored working on this buzzard, and the dynamic pose which was requested! Sadly this bird was found at the base of a tree on the finders farm deceased. Upon examination it was clear the bird was very malnourished, and had a broken neck and hemorrhage of the skull. It's quite plausible that in its weakened state it unfortunately made a fatal error and collided with the tree.
This bird was a real challenge to work with, not only for the requested pose, but because the bird was moulting at the time of its passing, meaning lots of pin feathers to contend with!

This distinctive male Greater Spotted Woodpecker was a commission for a returning client, sadly the poor bird collided with a greenhouse. Despite having incredibly strong beaks and jaws - which allows for the distinctive pecking sounds and foraging, collisions with windows and buildings is a common cause of death for woodpeckers.

September brings the beginnings of autumn, but brilliant colour can still be found🌈 Two stunning melanistic cross male pheasants, squaring up to each other adds a real sense of movement, the perfect statement piece as autumn draws in 🍂

I absolutely loved working with this very special female Sparrowhawk! This individual falls into the less than 10% of wild female Sparrowhawk's which display characteristically male plumage and colouration despite having a larger female size (darker slate blue tones over the back and wings, and classic peachy/rust patches on the cheeks and breast). Ornithologists believe this phenomenon happens in older birds as female hormone levels drop, causing a rise in testosterone and therefore male traits!
I also really enjoyed creating the little Sparrow 'Dead mount' to give this piece a bit of extra excitement.

What a fantastic day one at the , I can't thank everyone enough for your support, kind words and purchases today! One of the things I will be restocking ready for tomorrow is another beautiful little muntjac fawn. I can't wait to see more of you tomorrow, and hopefully I have enough stock after how crazy today was!

I thought I'd finally put a face to the name, I'm Emily of Crow's Nest Treasure! I really don't have many photos of myself as I tend to avoid cameras at all costs. This sweet little juvenile blackbird was sadly, like far too many, a cat victim. At least now they will get to live on for many years in the new life they didn't get the opportunity to in its first 🐦‍⬛

Rooks are sadly often considered to be the 'Ugly' member of the corvid family. The transition to bare-faced adults occurs during the bird’s first feather molt when they’re around 10-15 months old. It's thought this is an evolutionary trick which allows them to keep a clean beak and probe deeper when searching for food.
What many people don't realize about Rooks is that they have a stunning deep blue/purple sheen to their feathers, and I personally think they are beautiful.

A satisfying varnish removal for this antique fallow deer skull!
This skull is looking for a new wall to grace now it's looking beautiful, I'll be bringing it along to many of my upcoming shows if interested! 🦌

It's the time of year where new life is coming into the world, but sadly not all little ones make it past the first hours and days of life. This sweet little duckling sadly passed away shortly after hatching. But they have now found a new home that will love them forever 🦆🐣

The striking blue flash of a Eurasian Jays wings is one of the simple beauties in nature 💙 I adore seeing these colourful and cheeky members of the Corvid family at my local parks. This lovely individual is flying home soon!

A first for me today, creating a 'dead' prey mount! It's surprisingly hard to make something that has already passed away once, do it all over again via the Taxidermy process. This little juvenile sparrow died from colliding with a greenhouse 🥀💀

I'm back! After some much needed time off, and an absolute battering from my health I'm back doing what I love! As a gentle return to work I decided to try my hand at working with this beautiful moult from my pet Mexican Red Knee Tarantula 'Tequila'. Despite the abdomen being shredded from the moulting process, I think this skin has turned out beautifully 🕷️🕸️🇲🇽
