Sorry its a longish video but it really is a treat for me to watch Kiki melt into her massage treatment, I love how gentle and calm our sessions are. Everything is built on trust and respect. Beautiful ππΎ
Wow- time flies! This month marked a year since Bailey's knee surgery (11th Jan to be precise). As you can see there's no stopping this girl! Bailey enjoys life to the full with a little help from regular pain relief medication and some massage and laser therapy as needed to keep her comfortable. Bailey is a great example of how the right combination of careful management, meds and complementary therapies can mean dogs with arthritis can have great quality of life (and still act half their age!!). Go Bailey!!π
Dotty, back to enjoying more freedom and showing almost 100% normal movement in her affected leg!
Dotty, working hard at some of her exercises! Pole work is useful in re-eductaing the gait and encouraging awareness of foot placement and balance. We combined this and other targeted exercises with laser therapy to encourage nerve healing
Dotty, knuckling on her right hind prior to starting treatment
Zoom! There goes Bailey enjoying her freedom after rehabbing with me after knee surgery earlier this year! This is what its all about, just love this crazy girl and seeing her happy and running! π₯° I'm so lucky that I still get to see Bailey for maintenance treatments to help keep her in tip top shape...oh and did I mention she's almost 10!? πΎ
Alongside laser therapy and land based physiotherapy at home another important part of Silky's rehab after her op is hydrotherapy. This allows for controlled exercise and gait adjustment with the benefit of the warmth, buoyancy and resistance of water (think aqua-aerobics!). Charlotte and Katherine at DogFish-Hydrotherapy have looked after my dogs for years so I know Silky is in the best hands for her water treadmill sessions. Shout out to @Primula-Cheese for making the perfect product to motivate pugs!! π§πΆ
POV- Emily has been round and made you work really hard!! Good work Bailey!!π΄
Chip- this progress video was taken just 6 days after the previous video, after 6 daily treatments.
You can see the left hind limb (nearest the camera at the start of the video) is now being placed much more normally- the nerve pathways are reconnecting and healing- meaning that sensory feedback is now telling Chip when his foot is the right/wrong way up π₯³
I am always amazed at how the body can heal- with some help from laser and physiotherapy it's incredible what we can achieve π
We have seen more progress since this video and I am hoping to catch some footage to update soon!
Chip- video taken before his first treatment, you can see his left hind limb (nearest to the camera) is knuckling over and he is struggling to place the foot normally- this is due to nerve damage- he is not receiving sensory feedback that the foot is in the wrong position π
NMES jiggle
I love improving my knowledge and adding new therapies to my repertoire π Here we have a neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) machine in action. NMES stimulates muscle contraction using electric impulses (similar to a TENS machine), this can be used to encourage nerve and muscle function, here I am using it on Lila's back legs, targeting her quadriceps and hamstring muscle groups πͺ
