How we treat pain
There is no ‘silver bullet’ for pain relief.

All animals are unique, treatment plans are tailored for each individual pet.

Recent advances in the understanding of pain are used to provide safe and effective pain relief for your pet.

We work closely with you and your referring veterinary practice to look at all aspects of your pet’s health – a ‘holistic’ approach, or looking at ‘the big picture’.

Tailored Treatments:

- ASSESSMENT
Your pet will experience pain in a unique way. We look at the effect pain has on their mobility and quality of life.

- PAIN MECHANISMS
Once pain mechanisms are identified they also become targets for treatment.

- ACUPUNCTURE
Pain may alter your pet’s posture and gait. This causes muscle pain and abnormal loading of joints and ligaments. Acupuncture is often a useful treatment in pain management.

- HOME ENVIRONMENT
We will discuss some small changes you can make at home, to help your pet.

- DIAGNOSIS
Consulting with specialists in orthopaedics, neurology and cardiology. An accurate diagnosis helps when planning treatment,

- PAIN MEDICINES
A range of safe and effective medicines is available, to target pain mechanisms. Treatment plans are specific for each individual pet.

- PHYSIOTHERAPY
We work closely with excellent veterinary physiotherapists.

Once your pet’s pain is under control, physiotherapy is essential part of rehabilitation

- ASSESSING PROGRESS
Regular assessment is needed to check your pet’s progress.

Older pets also need regular checks for other problems which could complicate their treatment.

If you would like to know more about my services or think your pet could benefit please DM me or contact your vet for referral.

A great post from Canine Conditioning Academy showing canine growth plate closure timeframes.

A great post from Canine Conditioning Academy showing canine growth plate closure timeframes.

Growth plate closure is such an important consideration when we are working our young dogs. This is a guide only, in my personal experience some growth plates can remain active until the dog is 2yrs old. Torque or twisting can cause damage to the growth plates. Find the distal radial epiphysis (wrist) this can remain active until 17 months or more ! Think about the concussive force this joint receives when the dog takes off and lands. Take care out there 😉

JF: Vet Physio

Jayne graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Zoology from the University of Glasgow in 2009. She then continued into postgraduate studies to obtain her professional qualification, an Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Physiotherapy, through the Canine and Equine Physiotherapy Training Group (CEPT) based at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science.

After graduating this 2 year postgraduate course with merit, Jayne launched her own freelance veterinary physiotherapist business - JF: Vet Physio - in July 2011. During this time Jayne has successfully treated a wide variety of canine and equine cases. All veterinary physiotherapy undertaken complies with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 where veterinary agreement is obtained prior to treatment. Jayne is a firm believer that communication is the key to working well as a team and encourages vets, owners and other professionals to work closely with her to achieve the best results for their clients.

Jayne is a member of the governing body: the Institute of Registered Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapists (IRVAP). IRVAP supports Jayne as a professional in the animal health industry in her provision of best practice care towards her clients.

Jayne is also a registered practitioner on the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP) for her physiotherapy skill set. This register acts as a 'go-to' list, for both vets and owners to consult, to obtain information on approved practitioners in their area. RAMP's aim is to provide a list of practitioners you can confidently work with to ensure your animal receives the 'Gold Standard' care it deserves.
