Happy International Zebra Day! 🦓🎉
Today, we're celebrating the beauty and brilliance of zebras! We’re lucky to have four beautiful zebras here at Blair Drummond Safari Park – Panya, Amahle, Tanu, and Abba – who share a habitat with our giraffes. 🦓💚🦒
Did you know a zebra’s stripes aren’t just for show? 😲 They actually help break up their shape, making it much harder for predators to single out individual zebras in a group. Take a look at the photo below – at some points, it’s tricky to tell where one zebra ends and another begins! Some stripes even seem to line up perfectly from one zebra to the next! 📸👀

🌸 Fluff with a purpose! 🌸
That luxurious ruff around a black and white ruffed lemur’s neck isn’t just for looking fabulous - it actually makes them one of nature’s most unlikely pollinators! When these lemurs reach into flowers for nectar, their fluffy fur picks up pollen, just like a bee! 🐝✨
In Madagascar’s rainforests, they help pollinate the traveller’s tree, spreading pollen as they move from flower to flower. So, basically, they’re fluffy little eco-warriors keeping the forest alive! 🌿🐒

Check out this Père David stag's seriously impressive antlers! 🦌✨ Covered in velvet, they’re growing strong in preparation for the rut – the mating season when stags compete for the attention of females 🏆❤️.
As the velvet falls off, the antlers harden, getting ready for the challenge ahead. Once the season ends, the stag will shed his antlers, and the cycle starts again 🔄.
It’s a unique process to witness, and we’re lucky to have these magnificent creatures roaming their habitat 🌿.

Did you know? 🐄 All cattle have unique nose prints - just like human fingerprints! Those ridges are shaped by glands near their nostrils, creating a pattern that’s completely one of a kind. 🥰
Look closely at Clyde’s adorable nose while he enjoys some chin scratches - you’re seeing his own ‘identity badge’ in action! 🐮💛

🌰 Happy Red Squirrel Appreciation Day! 🐿️
We’re lucky to have a thriving population of red squirrels here, and we show our appreciation for them in a few different ways! ❤️
To help keep our furry friends happy and healthy, we provide purpose-built nest boxes and supply them with supplemental feeding throughout the year. 🏡🍴
When you visit, please keep an eye out for our red squirrels when driving and stick to the speed limit. These busy little creatures sometimes dart across the road, and your care helps keep them safe. 🚗⬇️ We've marked their most common crossing points with special signs around the park. 👀

🐧 Happy Penguin Awareness Day! 🐧
Last year, we were thrilled to welcome three new Humboldt penguin chicks – Bubba, Rossco, and Nugget. Watching them grow and find their flippers has been a highlight for our team and visitors alike. 💙
Humboldt penguins are found on the coastlines of Peru and Chile, but they’re facing tough times with habitat loss and dwindling fish stocks. In fact, they’re classed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. We can’t afford to let these amazing birds slide into the unknown – which is why raising awareness is so important.
Want to help look after our penguins? You can now adopt our waddle through our recently revamped adoption packs! 😁
Our little treasure at the end of the rainbow - baby Clyde! 🌈🐮

Hope’s favourite branch is *her* spot 🌳, and she’s not too keen on sharing it with Vitali! 🐅
Luckily for her, he's a little too big to climb all the way up. Better luck next time, Vitali! 😅

Have you ever caught our lemurs striking this iconic pose? 👐
When they sit with their arms wide and bellies exposed to the sun, they’re actually warming up! Lemurs have less dense fur on their tummies, which helps them absorb heat and regulate their body temperature on cooler days. ☀️

Did you know Père David’s deer are highly social animals? 🦌
They form close-knit herds, especially during the breeding season, and communicate through vocalisations and body language.
Keep an eye out for them next time you visit – you'll probably spot them enjoying each other's company in their favourite mud wallow! 💚

Abba showing off his football skills? ⚽️🦓
Not exactly! These special enrichment balls are filled with tasty treats, and our clever zebras need to nudge and roll them around to get the goodies to fall out. It’s a fun way to keep their minds active and their bodies busy! 😁
