❤️Pet Remembrance Day❤️

We’ve been quiet across our social media , as sadly on the 8th May a day after her 12th Birthday we said goodbye to our beloved Polly.

Sensory paws was created for Polly as a low impact activity of sniffaries and adventures to keep her stimulated in her golden years.

It’s been so lovely to hear everyone’s feedback and how their dogs have loved the sensory room and garden. We’re still open and welcoming dogs everyday, it’s just been a little bittersweet to post as we’re all so devastated.

We will remember her today and always and hope our enrichment room bring your dogs as much joy and adventure as it did our Polly ❤️

Thank you for your lovely review! So pleased to see the boys had a great time 🐾❤️

On the farm 🐑 🐄 🐥

We regularly change the scents of our room so that there’s always new smells for your dogs to explore.

We also love a theme! Our new theme to begin on Saturday 4th May is …. “ on the farm”.

As always all of our smells are natural and completely safe for dogs and they are hidden in scent tins and lock boxes dotted around our room and courtyard.

Distraction training!

Otto had a session yesterday and used the time to work on his recall, leave it command and focus around lots of exciting smells and treats.

Our room offered the perfect controlled environment to really put his training to the test and of course he was rewarded with a play afterwards for being such a good boy❤️🐾

A rainy Sunday! ☔️ 🌧️
Why not book a session and avoid bathing a muddy dog!

Mentally stimulating your dog is just as tiring for them as physical exercise 🐾 Swapping the walk for an enrichment activity can help your dogs switch off and relax all while giving their brain a work out!🏋️

Book Now Welcome to Sensory Paws Enrichment Rooms. The power of mental enrichment is often misunderstood or overlooked by pet parents. Dogs see the world through their noses and allowing your dogs the time to sniff and use their senses can vastly improve their wellbeing. 20 minutes of sniffing is th...

Move over tuff trays were all about the ruff trays! We’ve had such lovely feedback about our ruff tray and how much the dogs have loved foraging in the leaves to find hidden treats or a blueberry or too. It’s such an easy activity to create at home and utilise some left over veg!

Showing the true power of a dogs nose being able to notice a change in Jade’s odour and alerting her before an episode! Such a clever boy Jules ❤️🐾

Jules alerted Jade a few minutes before this picture was taken as he detected a change in her odour which meant she was about to collapse due to her condition, . She then knew that she needed to lie down. Before having Jules, this would have happened suddenly, without any warning and she suffered injuries such as black eyes and dislocations daily.

Today we’re talking about treats! 🐾

If you want to bring food/treats to the session please think about the 4 points below:

1) Don’t use lots of treats
We have seen quite a few sessions where owners are emptying treat bags into the ball pool and in the puzzles. We have over 50 hiding places, if all of them are loaded with 10 treats, your dogs may lose interest and focus on the easier tasks to gain treats. One area only needs 1 treat, if your dogs had fun for example in the ball pool, you can add treats once they’ve found the first treat.

2) The smaller the better
This means your dogs are less likely to fill up on treats and still be motivated to work for more. It also means hiding them will be that little bit harder for them to find.

3) Does your dog love the treats you have?
There’s a different between treats your dog will eat and treats your dogs love! You want your dog to be engaged and motivated to find the treats. If you use treats that your dog is always rewarded with, they have no insentive to work to get the treat, which may see them lose interest and become disengaged.

4) Stinky treats
The perfect enrichment treats are stinky- for example hot dogs or fish cubes. Although dogs sense of smell is incredible, stinky treats make it so much more engaging and exciting for them to sniff out

The perfect treats are small, high value and stinky! The smell gets your dogs engaged and their noses working, the small treats are perfect to leave your dogs wanting more and the high value means a high reward for using their brains on some difficult tasks. Your dog will be enjoying the games and wanting more.

If you’re not sure what treats to use we have plenty of samples for you to using during the session. Just get in touch with the team and we can leave a packet for you when you arrive 🐾
