Hello, and good news. After 2 weeks in hospital, I am out & almost recovered.

I will be back at work from tomorrow, but I'm limiting my daily workload until I'm 100%

I've got a huge backlog of appts to make, and those that I had to cancel while I was ill will take priority.

I'm hoping to get through all my existing messages today & tomorrow, so if I don't get back to you by weekend, I apologise, I may have missed your message, so please send again.

And for anyone wanting a new appt, now is a good time to make one, as the diary needs filling up!

Thanks again to all of you that sent me messages & best wishes, it was really appreciated, and a big thank you for my cancelled clients for being so patient and waiting for me to return xx

Just an update that I'm on day 5 now in hospital and still quite unwell, so please don't try to ring me - I can't answer.

I'll answer any urgent messages if I can, and re-arrange those booked in, otherwise I'll update on here once I'm out and back at work. My head isn't really functioning 100% so please bear with me.

This is a popular time of year to organise a hygiene clean for your horse. Sweat & sm**ma tend to increase with the warm weather & once the flies are here in force (any day now) they will be looking for warm moist areas to lay their eggs 🤢

All hygiene cleans for geldings, mares or stallions are £30 & call out within 10 miles of SK6 is FREE!
Discounts apply for groups of 5 or more horses.

A couple of weeks ago I attended a weekend training at Twemlows Hall Stud Farm AI & ET Centre to take part in their "Foaling the Mare" and also "Foal & Yearling Management" courses.

I have covered breeding and youngstock care in my Stage 4 exam, but this was much more in depth.

I had a fantastic time, met some lovely people & learnt lots. We learnt about the pregnant mares requirements, how to confidently deal with dystocia & learnt how to tie up & then examine the plactenta amongst many other things.

And the second day we saw foals of various types, learnt about early safe handling & healthcare. Discussed common abnormalities, in particular of the legs and feet.

The course is only once a year but is open to all. There was a whole range on my course including stud owners, small animal vets and single mare owners.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is, or is thinking of breeding their mare, or is involved in their care.

SUPPORT LOCAL

I finally managed a trip to Aquaduct Equines new premises yesterday.
They've done a really nice job with the new shop and will be increasing their stock as they discover local requirements.
I came back with a little haul and unlike most tack shops I go in, they had everything I needed! There's a selection of feeds, plus others can be ordered in if you let them know what you use regularly.

I'd definitely recommend calling in for a look.

They're a bit tricky to find initially as they're not actually in the main mill. Turn onto Shepley Lane (side of Goyt Mill, Marple) and follow the road around, past the Mill to the right where you'll see Wright Hire on your left. They are directly next door. Easy once you've done it once :)

I'm sure they'll be glad to see you.

I LOVE a good tail makeover! 🖤🤎🩶🤍🪣🧽🫧💎✂️

Washed, thinned & trimmed off the floor, but left natural at the top.
As this tail has been in mud every day (haven't we all!!) it has absorbed deep staining at the bottom. This should eventually come out, but would take several treatments. Given that it's at the ends, it's more likely to grow out before then, so can be trimmed off instead.

This lovely pony does have a substantial bundle of both brown & black hairs in the under tail, giving it a slightly darker appearance towards the bottom anyway.

Tail makeovers between £5 - £25 and no tail is too dirty for me!!

Washed using Wahl Dirty Beastie, Wahl Diamond White, and Wahl Easy Groom conditioner.
Lightly thinned using Smart Rakes

Mobile hot shower for tails, manes, legs or full baths as well as all Clipping, Trimming & Hygiene services.

The weather may be dull, but it's nearly time to start thinking about summer coats...
If your horse currently has a part clip & you'd like a nice evenly coloured summer coat, and to avoid the seemingly never ending moulting that is fast approaching, then book in for a full clip.

A full clip, mane tidy (or hog), tail tidy, condition & hot cloth is just £50.

Any length of blade, including the option of Lister Clipping covercote 5mm blades. Humane trimming, thinning & tidying of manes & tails.
And all products used are included in the price.

Want the legs blended or clipped off completely then add £10.

Sheath and Mare Hygiene cleans are also available with any clip for just £25. (Stand alone prices usually £30 per horse).

I am of course still doing winter clips & part clips, 7 days a week, all year round.

If you have messaged me & I've not got back to you, please accept my apologies.

After 3 weeks of van trouble, then losing our beloved cat on Thursday, plus currently suffering with some sort of sicky virus, a cold & painful tonsillitis, and working outside every day in this grim weather has all taken its toll, meaning I've got very behind with messages I'm afraid.

I do have appts available both this coming week and the week after for clips, trims, hygiene cleans and baths, so if you want your horse looking fab for Christmas, drop me a message and I will try and get back to everyone by the end of Sunday.

I'm not working Christmas day this year, and won't be clipping between 23rd Dec and 2nd Jan unless its a genuine emergency, so make sure you are organised and get booked in ASAP xx

A groom doesn’t just put your horse in and out of the field, muck it out, and make your horse look pretty.

They know every horse they deal with inside and out. They’re out before the general public are even out of bed, looking after horses, and often don’t get home until long after everybody else too. They sit with poorly horses for hours. They console owners when it doesn’t go the way you’d all hoped. They work in all weathers, there’s no such thing as a snow day, horses don’t look after themselves. They spend years training to have the knowledge to do what they do, for long days and sometimes for little pay, all for the love of the job. They end up with more injuries than you’ll ever know, and they just get on with it. They’re often on call at all hours, answering questions or if horse’s they look after need it. They recognise when somethings ever so slightly off or not right with a horse. Sometimes, they look after other people’s horses better than their own. They sit on a night time and ponder their job, what could they have done differently, what’s happening tomorrow, what do they need to remember. They’re an agony aunt, a therapist, a listening board, but also have to deal with their own problems too. They have to try and remember the tiniest of details, on top of routines, behaviours and everything else. They are problem solvers. They have to be proactive. But they still have to love the job to do it.

Remember, they are not JUST a groom, it’s everything else in between too.
