Some of our recent sessions.

Loki has had a couple of walk and trains, a great alternative to a full training session and always goes home tired 😴

Geegee the Pomeranian recently came to see me for some confidence boosting, we look at her reactivity and many other behaviours, before the end of the session we had a completely different dog for the first time out in public we had no reactions, loose lead and a happy owner!

Maisy and pae both rescues from abroad, owners wanted help with reactivity and loose lead walking, we had a great session and by the end these 2 dogs had a great grasp of what’s expected when on a walk and will be challenging them to more intense scenarios in the future.

Great sessions with each one of them and all in better places than before.

Well done all 🤟🏻

Change was always coming for TDDT I just wasn’t sure in what context it was coming.

That was until yesterday, I had to consider all sorts of options for my future in dog training. Yesterday I attended a fantastic and thought provoking seminar hosted by iamwillatherton, with guest speakers including balanceddoguk, lm_k9training and Tom Davis Dog Training.

The day dived into subjects not often spoken about in dog training such as mental health, burnout, self worth and much more. There was advice on how to improve my business and also how to improve relationships. I took so much motivation from my time with people at the top of this field.

Now to my future: it won’t be the same but I don’t want it to be. I intend on taking on less clients, spend more time with my family and enjoy my life. Training will be a different set up, 1-2-1s will still be my main set up but now they will be different, focussing on 1-2-1 day trains these will be 4hr sessions with a virtual theory session prior. This will incur a price increase of course but my reputation and skill set matches this.

The future is different but I’m excited!

We’ve had these 4 gorgeous labs / lab crosses in over the past week 😍

Buddy- £200, 6 session, didn’t leave the house never got anywhere, one session with TDDT and walking and behaving appropriately 🤟🏻

Fenn- no previous training, pulling like a train, one session and he is already more engaged, pulling has disappeared and they now enjoy walks 🤟🏻

Blu- a different dog to the dog I met earlier this year, hard work from the owner and the right knowledge after multiple failed trainers and they are living their best lives!

Rocco- a catch up session with owner and Rocco to continue their work on neutral behaviours around other dogs, massive progress from even 2 weeks ago!! 🤟🏻

Proud of what I do and love seeing happy owners and happy dogs as a result!

All deserve a massive well done!
Diamond dogs for sure 💎🐕

Slip lead/collard VS prong collars

Haters are going to hate but I don’t care for people’s opinions I care for the truth and what’s best for the dog and owner in front of me.

I assess every individual dog and owner and do what’s best for them, slip leads and collars are a regular asset to me but so is a prong collar! Some people and trainers get on their high horse saying they don’t like them, that’s wrong they don’t understand them and are putting their opinion on to others that don’t understand it.

Slip lead/collars, have been a common tool used for dog training and walking for many years. However, what some dog owners may not realise is that using a slip collar can actually be more dangerous than a prong collar. Prong collars, although they may look intimidating, have been found to be a safer and more effective alternative to slip lead/collars when used correctly.

A slip lead/collar relies on the owner's ability to properly adjust and release the collar when correcting the dog's behavior. This technique requires a lot of skill and can easily go wrong, causing serious damage to your dog's neck and throat.

With a prong collar, the pressure is evenly distributed around the neck, avoiding any potential damage to the dog's trachea or spine. This makes it a safer option for dogs.

One of the main differences between a prong collar and a slip lead is the distribution of pressure.

Furthermore, prong collars are designed with safety features. The prongs are rounded and blunt, minimizing any discomfort for the dog. Also, the collar has a limit to how much it can close, ensuring that it never harms your dog.

Both are excellent tools and both have a place in dog training.

We have been quiet recently in the socials, that’s doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy!

Axel came in for a session with owners just to keep things on track and build owner confidence, we took a walk together and went through each situation as it approached us.

Ensuring the owners understood his body language cues and how to engage axel stoping reactions from ever taking place.

We’ll done Axel and owners 🤟🏻

I haven’t posted this week but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy.

Here’s some of what we did this week;

Rocco was back for more work with loose lead in more exciting environments, we worked on his neutrality around other dogs, lots of do nothing training and handling techniques.

Purdy was back for impulse control work, we worked hard on making her understand that patience is key to getting the good stuff.

Finally a newbie Tess, we helped the owners start the journey of loose lead walking and owner engagement.

All dogs the week smashed it and made massive improvements.

Such a great week!

Well done all 🤟🏻

Back with Frank 🐕

There’s a saying- buy cheap buy twice… sadly this is a lesson learnt with Frank and their owners. We use equipment to train dog and using good quality equipment that we recommend and is always advisable, cheaper version are available but usually don’t cut it and don’t function as well. Due to poor fitting equipment Frank was reverting back to his old ways and leaving an owner very shaken and unconfident.

So we went and met them, using the correct equipment and with myself walking him we took Frank out and did some training alongside the owner. The biggest concern was other dogs and his reactions to them, he is a big strong dog and was pulling the owner over which meant acceptable. We rehearsed the loose lead walking and really put Frank to the test with multiple dogs around use, he did so well giving the owner a much needed confidence boost.

The right equipment makes a huge difference.

Well done Frank and owner 🤟🏻

Meet Swiss 🐕

Swiss is a failed guide dog, she was swapped around a lot as a puppy due to being too much for the foster families, when her time come for guide dog training she didn’t cut the grade. She now has a loving family who are in need of some help with her overall behaviour.

We started the session with a chat about her day to day life offering advice on small changes that will help get the dog they want.

We went for a walk and quickly saw her arousal was high and engagement was low, if Swiss wanted to do something 9/10 she did and if she couldn’t she’d get frustrated.

Our loose lead program was exactly what these owners needed like a light switch getting flicked Swiss went from uninterested to owner engaged, she was making regular check ins, instead of going crazy at distractions she stayed calm and close.

When we understand the dog in front of us the rest is easy.
Lots of homework for these guys and looking forward to continuing the journey!

Well done Swiss and owners 🤟🏻

Met Lunar 🐕

This sweet XL bully has to be one of the nicest dogs I’ve met recently, such a sweet nature.

The owners wanted some help with her excessive pulling and anxious behaviour outside.

We had a good chat about day to day life and offered small changes that can have big impact on the overall wellbeing and long term behaviour.

We went for a walk and from the off it was pulling, no engagement and just not very enjoyable. We introduced the loose lead walking program and it clicked so quickly with this little lady, from end of the lead to by the owners side. The relief and happiness on the owners face said all it needed too.

Plenty of homework for them and another session soon.

Well done Lunar and owner 🤟🏻

Back with Cece 🐕

In this session we looked at a variety of behaviours and how to move forward with positive alternatives.

Impulse control, something Cece is certainly lacking, we worked on her ability to control her emotions and also her wants. What this entailed was giving her another behaviour to do instead of counter surfing, stealing and becoming over aroused.

We looked at introducing a boundary which she took to so well, then we worked on 4 on the floor and rewarded her for not jumping on the sides, we worked on her level of excitement and how our portrayal of behaviours impacts the dogs behaviour.

Overall a great session with lots of knowledge passed on, Cece showed she has the capacity and understanding to follow through, I’ll be keeping in close contact over the month to help these owners.

Well done Cece and owner 🤟🏻

Meet Benji 🐕

This little cockerpoo didn’t have the greatest of starts and was rescued at 7months old. He has been with his new family for a year now and although they have tried they just can’t seem to get on top of some of his behaviours.

Walks are becoming a chore rather than being enjoyed, at home he is being mischievous and all this is becoming overwhelming.

We met Benji and family, we looked a his daily routine and offer small changes that will help with his structure and provide him with both calm periods and give him mental stimulation.

We went for a walk and could see quickly his lack of engagement, his over arousal around dog and poor decision making.

We introduced the loose lead program and he was a superstar, at the start we had no distractions then 5 minutes later we had a field full of dogs, big small on lead and off lead. Truly the ultimate test for Benji who would usually be fixated on these distractions and pulling to get to them. The result….. Benji remained calm, looked to the owner for guidance, stayed on a loose lead and didn’t react out of frustration.

The smile on the owners face was the reason I do this! Seeing them work in harmony with each other was brilliant!

Well done Benji and owners 🤟🏻

Vader 🔥🐕

Back for our 3rd session with him. Truthfully he has been a hard nut to crack, probably why other trainers have failed him and quickly to label him but we saw HUGE improvements in this session.

Those who follow the page will know he is a spicy dog and previously I couldn’t be in any proximity to him without him losing his mind, very aggressive behaviour and get really uncontrollable. Our first session we introduced the 4 stage loose lead program to gain engagement, the second session we introduced boundaries, between then we also introduced a new marker in the way of a clicker.

During this session Vader was still reacting, however his recovery was seconds, his decision making was so much better and regularly choosing not to react over reacting, he was the most engaged of ever seen! In a short period of time I was walking in close proximity to him in a way that was previously impossible. Towards the end he was even laying down and taking it all in his stride.

To hear the owners say he looks happy to be outside is such a joy to hear and it was a pleasure to watch him!

Don’t get me wrong there’s still work to do but the work is getting done and Vader is making strides like never before.

Well done Vader and owners 🤟🏻

Meet Buster 🐕

This young German Shepherds owners reached out for some help with his lead work and reactivity.

We went to meet them at the weekend, we started with a good chat and observing Buster, we offered advice on a variety of subjects from feeding to mental stimulation.

Then we went for a walk, Buster lacked engagement and leadership which was leading to his anxiety and behaviour outside. We introduced the 4 stage loose lead program and in no time at all Buster was like a different dog, we continued to improve his walking and fine tuned the handling skills of the owners, before long Buster was engaged, looking to the owners and even had people and dogs passing with no reaction!

A great start to Busters journey and one im excited to be apart of.

Well done Buster and owners 🤟🏻

What a weekend I’ve had! It started out with 2 wonderful messages from 2 clients, we then met a new dog and continued to progress with another client.

I love receiving these kinds of messages they truly make what I do worth it!

Both these clients have worked so hard to get where they are now! As a trainer I really believe it’s 10% me and 90% client effort, however that 10% makes a big difference. Both of these clients I’m not their first trainer, both dog have been let down, given wrong information, misdiagnosed with problematic behaviours they didn’t have.

Both are now living the lives they want with their dogs through tailored 1-2-1 training with TDDT, it’s not a quick fix, it’s not magic. What it is; hard work, mistakes, compassion, forward thinking, big picture understanding a willingness to learn and put it in to practice over and over.

Thank you for keeping in contact and letting me be apart of these journeys, it’s a privilege to be in this position and I’m truly humbled by everyone who reaches out to me.

Breed fulfilment is so important!

As dog owners, one of the most important responsibilities we have is to provide our canine companions with the necessary level of breed fulfillment. Every breed of dog has specific physical and behavioral characteristics that have been developed over centuries to serve a specific purpose. Some breeds are known for their strength and agility, while others excel in hunting or herding.

It is crucial for us to understand the needs and instincts of our dogs and ensure that their daily activities and environment are tailored to meet those needs. Failure to do so can result in various behavioral issues such as excessive barking, destructive chewing, and even aggression.

Breed fulfillment not only promotes physical health but also plays a significant role in a dog's mental well-being. It provides them with a sense of purpose and satisfaction, leading to a happier and more balanced life.

TDDT can help you and your dog understand reach other through quality 1-2-1 training, don’t delay contact us to begin your journey 💎🐕

Vinnie 😍

Well what a session this was! We have been working with Vinnies owners for a few months now and this session was what it has all been about!

We met at coatham woods, I wanted it to be a place I’d never taken him and somewhere that would test him.

From the very beginning we had challenges of dogs kicking off around us in the car park, Vinnie remained calm and engaged, we headed out on the walk he stocked close by and offered loads of engagement, he checked in regularly when off ahead and came back when required. This walk was an absolute pleasure and a feeling of true pride in this duo! Always turning ip, always improving, always wanting to understand more!

Session like this are what make me proud to do what I do!

Well done Vinnie and owner 🤟🏻

Loki looking very handsome 🐕

Our walk and train today was soooo good!! We had to reschedule a recent one due to the weather so it’s been a few weeks since I’d seen him.

This walk was such a pleasure, from loose lead walking to exploring the environment Loki was brilliant. It’s nice to know the hard work and effort the owners are putting in is paying off and Loki is now a dog that enjoyable to take out!

This boy keeps improving all the time!

Well done Loki 🤟🏻

Meet Dougie 🐕

Having been to Dogs Trust for “training” the owners became fed up of not being listened to and felt pushed aside because the training wasn’t working and wasn’t transitioning into their real life set up.

We went and met Dougie and owner earlier this week, we listened and sympathised with how they were feeling, we had a good chat about day to day life and offered advice on how to make small changes that have life long results!

First thing we started with was threshold training, dogs learn in pictures; so we painted the picture for him, rewarding him for being in position and using spacial pressure to correct him getting it wrong. 5 minutes later we had the door wide open and Dougie laid there not trying to charge out the door 👌🏻

Now we had the door covered we moved on to guests coming in, following a similar process we started to change Dougie’s thoughts about what to do when someone comes in.

Finally we took a walk, using some loose lead training we quickly had a dog that previously charged ahead turn into a well mannered and calm loose lead walking dog 🤟🏻

A wonderful session!
Well done Dougie and owner 🤟🏻
