Hydrotherapy is ideal excercise for a puppy once they have had their vaccinations

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿพ

This xray is of a 2 week old puppy.
When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly togethr or has a true socket yet.
When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.
But when you're letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.
You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breedng and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.
Once grown - around 12-18 months depending on their breed, you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.

Hugo 3 year old Bulldog who has been visiting swimpaws a few month now doing shorter sessions to build up his confidence, strength and stamina. Hugo also does agility and has actually improved his timing score around the course by a massive 13 seconds to where he started from and also more weekly agility courses now than what he used to do.
Hugo has become very confident and now enjoys chasing his tennis ball in the water and will be increasing to full sessions next month. Well Done Hugo ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿพ

Hilary Wells with Pep the Cavalier

Pep is adopted through Bliss Cavalier Rescue
When he first came to live with us, he had zero muscle tone as he had been left to god and providence
Through our behaviorist, we came across Swim Paws, which we knew would help him build up his strength and stamina with zero impact on his joints
5 years later we still go religiously every week as itโ€™s amazing exercise for him as he has arthritis, so itโ€™s less stress on his joints โ€“ plus the warm water is very helpful โ€“ this along side his physio every 6 weeks is helping him massively.

One thing I must mention is that Pep has a heart murmur (itโ€™s a cavvie thing sadly) and all of the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and mindful of the importance of making sure Pep has plenty of rests in between swims

The only operation heโ€™s had was to have his a**l glands removed which he recovered from very well

Swim Pawsโ€™s is not only brilliant for Pep, but for me too โ€“ the atmosphere is very warm and all of the staff welcome you with open arms

I would highly recommend taking your fur baby here for exercise especially if they have mobility issues โ€“ it will do them a power of good!!

Swim Paws

Swim Paws owners are passionate about dogs and have had them for many years.

Why swimming? Well, all of our dogs have been water babies - 2 Labradors, an Alaskan Malamute and our 2 current German Shepherds - so we decided to open a place where owners can bring their dogs to a safe, warm, friendly environment where they can reap the health benefits of a swim without having to worry about water quality, cleaning up the mess once you get home, standing on a freezing river bank in winter and risking an upset tummy from the beach (not to mention all that sand in the house).

Swimming is a fantastic way for dogs of all ages to stay fit and healthy and we want you and your dog to have a really positive experience with us and as such, we will treat your dog like one of our own. Not every dog is a natural water baby and not every dog will enjoy the high velocity dryers so we will take it at the pace that your dog feels comfortable with. If that means a bit of extra encouragement in the form of some yummy treats (with your permission) or with a toy then thatโ€™s what weโ€™ll do!
