From the first month I had Gizmo I got him used to being handled, bathed and groomed in a gradual positive process. He's a very noise sensitive dog that doesn't like being off balance but will happily jump in the bath, happily jump on the grooming table. Because I made each step valuable and positive making my life easier and also a vets life easier and so on.... Positivity, gradual and patience works. Don't rush the process and make it rewarding for them 😉🐶 Even when my blind dog bumps into the table Gizmo copes with it 🙈😁

Happy new year 🎉 Final graduation at the end of 2023 for the 8 week puppy course goes to Willow 🐶 and her brilliant owner Saz. Both worked exceptionally hard as they not only completed the course but did it virtually and following their progress they are doing amazing 👏

Unfortunately I'm seeing more of people offering a dog walking and training service that have no insurance or qualifications or even experience. Young adults finishing school and then offering this service without any of the above. The industry is unregulated and anybody can claim to be a "dog trainer" and have responsibility of walking your dog 😬 Please do your research and check their credentials and ask to see the insurance certificate. All my clients will be shown my insurance details and I'm proud of my qualifications as I've worked hard for them. There are plenty of other good reputable walkers and trainers that do the same. Keep your dogs safe and support a reputable business that is doing it the right way :)

Training for fireworks 🎇🎆 You're probably thinking but it's summer, far too early for that yet! Well your wrong as the earlier the better. Leave it until autumn then it's harder and too late for your dog to learn as the stress will be too much for them to be able to process any learning!

Have some treats at the ready and play fireworks sounds at very low volume and when your dog is relaxed with the fireworks sounds scatter treats. Gradually increasing the volume working on your dog being relaxed and content. Any signs of stress or slight anxiety don't scatter treats and turn the volume down. Build on your dogs confidence and don't push them too soon!

Working towards your dogs being happy and content at home regardless of the outside world 🐶🐶

Afternoon canicross sessions will be temporary postponed until the temperatures are in a safe range for dogs 🐾🐾 Dogs are unable to cool down as effective as humans as they can only sweat through their paws and by panting. If the ground and air is warm this puts dogs under even more stress. Imagine running in the heat with a fur coat on and your body being unable to cool itself, that is what you're asking of your dog if running in warm temperatures 🐾🐾

Please extra be careful as Easter holidays high risk foods such as chocolate and raisins are commonly consumed but are toxic to dogs. Even myself that knows the dangers of certain foods my own dogs found and ate a whole onion. Unfortunately accidents do happen but this could of been really serious had we not of acted so quickly as soon as we realised. Hard lesson learned that could of had serious consequences. Check the dogs environments that these foods are stored away. Be careful when cooking and eating. As most people know my dogs are very well trained but this doesn't mean the training stops as this highlights more work can be done as well as managing the dogs environment. Happy Easter and keep your dogs safe as they're precious 🐾🐾
