Another big THANK YOU to Ettie's mum Brenda🩷, thanks to her nimble fingers we have raised a further £48.00 from knitted dog coats. This will go to our local charity Animal Lifeline. 🐾👏
FLYSTRIKE!!
As temperatures rise, so does the risk of flystrike
for our fluffy companions. Flystrike, a potentially
fatal condition, occurs when flies lay eggs on a
rabbit's fur, which then hatch into maggots and
feed on their flesh.
🧐Keep a close eye on your rabbit's hygiene and
living environment, especially during warmer
months. Regularly check for any signs of soiled fur,
wounds, or unusual behaviour. Prevention is key:
ensure your rabbit's living space is clean and dry,
and consider using flystrike prevention methods
recommended by your vet.
🚨If you suspect flystrike, seek veterinary
assistance immediately. Early detection and
treatment are crucial for the well-being of your
furry friend. Let's keep our rabbits safe and
flystrike-free this summer!🌞🐇
Here is another one of our fab nurses to celebrate Vet Nurse Awareness month 🥰
Vet Amy and Nurse Lou have been on an eco drive here at Alsager! Check out this massive bag of soft plastics that we, as a team, have been collecting for recycling over the last few weeks - something that in the past would have gone to landfill! ♻️
Did you know you can take your clean soft plastics to be recycled at most major supermarkets? This includes things like:
✅ Plastic bags
✅ Fruit and veg bags
✅ Crisp and chocolate packets
✅ Bubble wrap
✅ Cling film
♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️
SUNCREAM DAY ⛱
As the sun starts to shine brighter, let's not forget some of our pale skinned furry friends' skin protection!
May 27th is Sunscreen Day, reminding us of the importance of safeguarding those pet such as white coated animals with pink skin from harmful UV rays. Just like us, some pets can suffer from sunburn and may occasionally lead to skin cancer.
Ensure your pet stays safe in the sun by limiting access to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day. If tolerated and won’t be licked off, apply pet-safe sunscreen to exposed areas. Also, provide shady spots outdoors.
Let's keep our pets happy, healthy, and sun-safe! 🐾🌞
May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness month! ⭐️
So we thought you would like to see all of our nurses and why they started in the profession. Our first nurse is Lou 💜
Lucy is off to her new home today. 😀
She weighed in at a whopping 10kg, she’s going be a beautiful big girl!
She’s had her 2nd vaccinations, her flea and worm treatment and she is good to go now, off to the Lake District. Have fun Lucy and have some fabulous walks.😊🐶🥾🌳
Coco and Rolo came in for their monthly weight check to have their flea and wormers. They are on our health plan so are regular visitors and always enjoy coming in for treats 😋
They are going for a haircut this week but how adorable do they look and how fluffy!💖

Everyone, meet the lovely Monty!
Earlier this year, Monty was diagnosed with a mast cell tumour after having a lump sampled at his health check. This is a cancerous tumour and removal is always recommended. Thankfully, Monty's staging (checking for cancer spread) all came back clear! ✔
Due to the location of Monty's lump, surgical removal would have been really challenging. Instead, vet Amy recommended an injection containing tigilanol tiglate - a compound extracted from the seed of a shrub found in the Australian rainforest. 🌿 This targeted treatment kills the tumour, causing it to die off, leaving behind an open would but no tumour cells.
Monty was an absolute champ throughout his treatment, even when he experienced some of the negative side effects of the injection. 💉
We are so pleased to say his wound is now fully healed and he has been given the all clear! Thank you to Monty and his owners, we can't wait to give him a fuss at his next booster! 🥳

🐱Attention all cat owners in England!🐾
Don't forget, the deadline for microchipping your feline friend is quickly approaching. Starting from June 10th, it's a legal requirement for ALL CATS in England to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they're 20 weeks old.
Remember, failing to comply could result in a hefty fine of up to £500! But fear not, microchipping your cat doesn't have to break the bank - it's a small price to pay for peace of mind and compliance with the law.
Don't wait until it's too late! Contact our team today on 01270 873478 to schedule a microchipping appointment for your furry friend and ensure they're protected and legal. 🏷
May the 4th be with you! 🌌🌠
Even in a galaxy far, far away, pets need
care. Our team is here for your furry
companions, ensuring they stay happy and
healthy inour own little corner of the
universe! 🐾🚀
Today we had a visit from these beautiful cocker spaniel puppies! 🩷💙 They had a full health check, first vaccines, microchip and flea/worm with vet Amy as part of our breeder pack which is £44 per puppy, this is a great saving and ensures these little bundles of cuteness get off to a good start in life 🥰🐾
All puppies should have a primary course of vaccines (and boosters once a year!) to protect them against:
Parvovirus
Distemper
Adenovirus/hepatitis
Leptospirosis
It is also the law that all puppies must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks of age.
We managed to have lots of lovely cuddles with them as well before they left ☺️
WORLD VETERINARY DAY👩⚕️
Today is world veterinary day and we would like to say a massive THANK YOU to our wonderful vets here at Alsager.
The care, compassion and kindness you show to all our pets at the practice is outstanding and we couldn't ask more from you. We are so proud to say you are OUR vets ❤ You treat all the animals like they are your own pets and are totally dedicated to the profession.
So to Abi, Emma and Amy thank you for all you do 🐾🐾
CLEANING PRODUCTS
As we gear up for spring cleaning, it's essential to be mindful of the products we use, especially when it comes to the safety of our furry companions.
Many household cleaning agents contain chemicals that can be harmful or toxic to pets if ingested or exposed to their skin or paws. Ingredients like bleach, ammonia, and certain detergents can cause irritation, respiratory issues, or more severe health problems for our beloved animals.
Please store cleaning products securely out of reach of curious pets and follow proper usage guidelines. Keep pets away from freshly cleaned areas until surfaces are completely dry and chemicals have dissipated.
Always read labels carefully and opt for pet-friendly or non-toxic cleaning alternatives whenever possible. If you suspect your pet has come into contact with or ingested cleaning products and is showing any signs of distress, contact us immediately for guidance
FLOWERS
As gardens bloom and springtime blossoms, it's important to be mindful of the flowers that surround our furry family members. While flowers can be beautiful, some can pose risks to our pets🌼🐱🌸
Certain flowers, such as lilies, tulips, daffodils, azaleas, and chrysanthemums, are toxic to pets if ingested. Even small amounts can lead to various health issues, ranging from gastrointestinal upset to more severe conditions like kidney failure.
❗️ If you suspect your pet has nibbled on or ingested any flowers, especially those known to be toxic, contact us immediately. Quick action is crucial to mitigate potential harm.
Be cautious when choosing indoor and outdoor plants. Opt for pet-friendly blooms like marigolds, roses, sunflowers, or pet-safe alternatives to ensure a pet-friendly environment. Remember to keep them out of reach, as ingesting them can cause stomach issues.
Now we are officially in Spring 🌼 we thought it would be a good idea to remind everyone of some of the dangers that this time of the year poses to our beloved pets.
GRASS SEEDS 🌿
As the weather warms and outdoor adventures beckon, it's essential to be aware of potential hazards lurking in our surroundings, particularly for our furry companions
Grass seeds might seem harmless, but they can pose a threat to our pets. These seeds can become embedded in their fur or paws, causing irritation, discomfort, and in some cases, serious health issues. They have tiny barbs that can lodge into the skin, ears, eyes, or nostrils, leading to infections or abscesses if not promptly addressed.
During walks or playtime in grassy areas, check your pet's fur, especially between their toes, ears, and armpits, for any lodged seeds. Keep longer fur trimmed, which can reduce the chances of seeds becoming embedded.
Avoid letting your pets roam in areas with overgrown grass or wild plants known for problematic seeds. If you suspect your pet has encountered grass seeds or is showing signs of discomfort, such as excessive licking, sneezing, or pawing at their ears, get in touch with us promptly.
We had Charlie and Annie in on Saturday for their final post op check. They are Bengal cats and love a wander around the consult room and a drink from the tap. Bengals love running water and their Mum and Dad have brought them a fountain that they love!
How beautiful are their markings!
Some of you may remember over Christmas when Ettie’s mum, Brenda, very kindly started to knit dog coats and hats.
We have already donated £107 from the sale of these and we have donated a further £118 today!
We are very grateful to the very talented Brenda
If you would like to order a hand made dog coat, or a hat please call in to the surgery.
Happy Easter weekend!
A gentle reminder from all of us this weekend that no matter how much they want it (like little Henry here!), chocolate is toxic ☠ to dogs.
Make sure you store your Easter eggs safely out of reach of your pets. If they do manage to eat some chocolate, please contact us immediately on 01270 873478.

Meet Marley!
Recently, we referred Marley for Brachycephalic Obstructive Airwar Syndrome (BOAS) surgery.
BOAS is a life long obstructive airway disease that means affected animals cannot breathe normally. French bulldogs, pugs, shih-tzu's are commonly affected by this condition, as are some cats such as Persians.
Dogs with normal airways breathe quietly, but dogs with BOAS have increased respiratory noises, which can include snuffling, snorting and snoring. These are all indicators of airway obstruction.
During Marley's surgery. he had a staphlectomy (resection of the soft palate), tonsillectomy (removal of his tonsils), resection of his laryngeal saccules and rhinoplasty (widening of his nostrils). We are pleased that Marley recovered very quickly from his operation.
Since, Marley's owner has noticed a huge difference to his quality of life - he has so much more energy, no longer gets breathless and can keep up with his doggy friends! His owners have also done a great job on reducing Marley's weight and we think he looks great!
If you are worried your dog may have BOAS, please call 01270 873478 and book a consult with one of our vets who can discuss further.

Why do cats knead❔ Kittens knead their mother's stomach to stimulate milk flow. If your cat kneads your lap during cuddles, it may indicate their connection from the secure bond with their mother to the bond they share with you. And the more they knead, the more they love you! 💗
Sometimes they drive our patience, but we always love our goofballs. #feelgoodfeeling

To exotic or not to exotic, that is the question… 🐢 🦎 🐍 🐦 . . Vet nurses are ready to care for all pets, no matter how many legs they have! #vetnurse #vnam #vnam2023 #EmpowerOurVNs #vetlife
Registered veterinary nurses and student veterinary nurses are registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. They are regulated by them in terms of their conduct and keeping up to date with training. The term veterinary nurse is a contentious conversation in the vet world as anyone can use this term, even if not qualified or registered. Efforts have been made to change this, and we fully support this; our nursing team deserves to have their title protected and for pet owners to know your vet nurse is fully qualified to look after your beloved pet. Registered vet nurses RVN and registered student nurses RSVN are always qualified and trained. #vetnurse #vnam #vnam2023 #EmpowerOurVNs #vetlife
