5 TOP HALLOWEEN TIPS TO KEEP YOUR DOG SAFE ๐๐๐
1. MAKE SURE YOUR DOG IS SAFE AND SECURE
Make sure your dog can't easily slip out of the door when the children come knocking. Limiting access to the door, by providing them with a quiet, safe room they feel comfortable in, with human company, can really help.
2. GIVE YOUR DOG A QUIET, SAFE AREA - AWAY FROM PEOPLE WEARING COSTUMES
It's so easy for a sensitive dog to get spooked by fancy dress, so try to avoid walks after 3pm.
Where possible, allow a quiet, safe place for them to rest or retreat to. Enrichment, such as chew toys or interactive puzzle toys, can help; you can also add music to the background or dim the lights.
3. KEEP HUMAN TREATS OUT OF REACH OF DOGS
Chocolate is toxic to dogs and many sweets can make them incredibly ill. With all that sugar around, make sure it is kept safe in a high cupboard, out of reach of your dog.
4. MANY DOGS DON'T LIKE BEING DRESSED UP; ONLY DO SO IF THEY ARE HAPPY
Fido may look super cute in his new ghost costume but, unless they are 100% happy wearing it, please don't put it on him.
Costumes not only can restrict breathing, sight and sounds but we are unable to pick up on our dog's body signals/communication. Some dogs may find it unpleasant or uncomfortable.
5. COMFORT AND REASSURE YOUR DOG
Yes, it's ok to comfort and reassure your dog. This can help calm Fido down and know they are safe with their human.
