Here's Basil seven years ago doing some shaping with the clicker as we will be doing in C&T class tomorrow. I aimed to click on the nose touches, but I can see from the video that he was doing paw touches and nose touches in a sequence. Clever boy. Always worth recording your training on video to look at.

The next training class at The Peak Dog Retreat, Grindon is walking on a loose lead and coming back when called, on The 11th of July at 6 pm and 7.05 pm. If you are having problems with either of those, this class is for you. The facilities at the venue are really good with an indoor and outdoor space we can use. Get in touch to book.

Tonight at 6 pm is the first dog training class at The Peak dog retreat, Oakmoor Farm, Grindon, near Leek. Tonight is for puppies, we will do some training, a walk including training, and an obstacle course. I can fit another couple in if anyone would like to join in.

Two places are still available for the Tracking class on Thursday the 20th of June at 6.30pm, at Thorncliff near Leek. £12.00. Suitable for beginners and those who have done tracking before. Tracking is a natural behavior for dogs, we set up tracks for them to follow and find items along the track. It’s fascinating to see and gives the dogs a mental exercise. Churnet Valley Dog Training has a new venue for classes.
It’s at Oakmoor farm, Grindon, which is near Leek, Ashbourne and Buxton. Some of you will already know it if you have hired the freedom field.
We will be training outside in the freedom field and inside when its wet in the indoor barn.
I’m starting with a couple of Thursday evening sessions.
June the 27th Puppy parade 6.00 pm - 6.55 pm. 7.05 pm - 8.05 pm Including, a puppy walk around the farm, to give the puppies some socialization by walking together, sniffing, seeing and hearing new smells, sights, and sounds.
Some training includes coming back when called, walking by your side, and leave. Questions and answers.
An obstacle walk, which gives the puppies the experience of getting on, off, inside, and through things, which is also great in improving handler skills.

July the 11th 6.00 pm- 7. pm. 7.05 pm - 8.05 pm

Walk on a loose lead and come back when called training.
We all need our dogs to walk nicely on a lead without pulling and to come back when called. Walking nicely on a lead is far more enjoyable for us and our dogs. Coming back when called means the dog can have more freedom to run, sniff, and explore their environment.

Here is my liver cake recipe. I mostly make it with tinned fish because you can mix it in a bowl. Make some different ones to find out which your dog likes best. It makes a good high-value reward to use as a motivator when training your dog or puppy.

Light evenings mean one thing! Activity classes are back. The first one is a tracking class on Thursday the 20th of June. Tracking is where our dogs follow a track we have laid with our scent and find articles on the track. It's fascinating to see our dogs do this. Pm me for more details and to book a place.

Whose a good dog? All these at Oak Moor Farm on Thursday were good dogs. We did hoopers, it was great fun.

This morning in the beginner dog class I mentioned it was handy to teach your dog to get up onto platforms, not only do you can teach an 'off' cue but it's great for photos. Here's Mia not just doing 'paws up' but also positioning herself as that is what we do.

Clicker and Target training class. We haven't had one for ages and some people have been asking so here it is. Tuesday the 18th of July at 7.00 pm until 8.30 pm. At Butterton Village Hall. Great for tricks and novel behaviors as well as strengthening and improving basic training and behavioral training. PM me.

KCGCDS Gold stop the dog.

A place in the Silver and Gold class has become available. 11am at Kingsley Village on Saturdays. We will be doing lots of interesting training including Stop the dog as Mia demonstrates in the video. Dogs must be good around people and other dogs. Pm me.

Me and Mia enjoy tricks.

Activity classes are back. Tuesday the 25th of October at 10.30 am. Indoors at Butterton Village Hall ST13 7ST. The first is short sequences of obstacles. It will be like agility but smaller and everyone works on their own sequence. The goal is to train the dog to leave a starting point and go forwards over, through, or under obstacles to the end and stop. Or the dog may do a task at the end like pick something up and bring it back, or touch a cone or button, or lie down in a bed or box. Good for the dog's mind as well as physical exercise. Positive reinforcement makes dogs happy! It will be good fun and interesting you will learn a lot about your dog by doing this. £12.00 for the class or £10.00 if you are on a course or if you pay for a Sunday class as well. Please pay in advance as places will be limited as we are indoors. The IABTC C&T awards can be included in this class. All dogs must be good with other dogs and people. No matter how good your training is you need to practice it to keep it sharp. We practice lots of different training including recall on walks on and off the lead in different places.

Mia learning to 'whisper'. She now whispers instead of barking in some circumstances. I taught her using clicker training. There has been a cancellation for Sundays class, pm me if you want to come.
