Lime Trees Vets

Lime Trees Vets Lime Trees Vets supply caring and professional veterinary services to pets in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Staffordshire Moorlands.

We also differ to local practices as we also offer referral services in small animal surgery and internal medicine at our hospital in Meir Park. We are fortunate enough to be the host practice for Vets Now, so you will not need to travel to a different veterinary practice as the out of hours service will be provided from Lime Trees Veterinary Hospital – Meir Park. We are an ISFM Accredited Cat Fri

endly Clinic and we have cat-friendly waiting areas, meaning your cat is separated from other animals when they visit the vets, making their experience much less stressful. To find out more about Lime Trees Vets, please visit our website: www.limetreesvets.co.uk

Fan Fan a 9-year-old Chinese Crested Dog came to the clinic last week for a general anaesthetic and spay. Prior to the surgery it was discovered that Fan Fan had pyometra (a uterine infection found in unneutered females). This often makes patients feel very sick, lethargic, and in some cases an increase in urination and drinking. If a pyometra is left untreated it can cause further and more serious health issues.

We are very pleased to say that Fan Fan’s surgery was a success! She recovered amazingly and received lots of attention and fusses from our team! We couldn’t resist sharing her lovely face with all. She will soon be back for some more post op checks; we look forward to getting her all signed off! 😊💚

Introducing one of our lovely nurses based at our Cat Clinic Nicola, who has been a Veterinary Nurse for an amazing 22 years!💪
She joined us back in January and has settled in perfectly. Nicola brings a calming energy to the Cat Clinic and a positive attitude to all things cat related🐱

Nicolas favourite part about the job is that she gets to spend her day with cats. As well as this she enjoys nurse consultations and talking to clients about their cats and behaviours.

In her spare time Nic enjoys days out with her wonderful 3 children and husband. Also, at home she has a handsome 1-year old cat called Reggie who likes to keep her on her toes! 😎💚

Ember is a 2-year-old domestic long hair cat who had been struggling with itchy skin and had been scratching so much it was making her skin sore and crusty. She had also been vomiting a lot of fur balls! She came in to have some investigations with Jodie (our Advanced Practioner in Feline Medicine). Ember is known for having a spicy side, so she had some calming medication and came to the cat clinic with the aim to keep her stress levels to a minimum!📉

Luckily, there was nothing serious found on her ultrasound or blood tests. Ember is now continuing with a formulated veterinary hypoallergenic diet to help improve her skin and we are just awaiting the results from her skin biopsies to see if she needs any medications alongside this 💊🩺

Luckily, the calming medications and the Cat Clinic worked their magic, and Ember was very relaxed during her stay and even enjoyed a good fuss from our nurse Hayley!😍

We are so pleased we can offer our dedicated cat only clinic to our patients to make vet visits as calm as possible for our feline friends as we know they can be particularly sensitive! If you would like more information on the benefits of our IFSM gold status cat clinic, please call to speak to our cat clinic team💚🐱

Meet Alfie – a 10-year-old, very handsome tortoise🐢
Alfie was brought him in because his beak was becoming quite long, and he was finding it hard to eat.

Following lots of fuss and attention from the whole team Alfie had his beak trimmed and smoothed down. He was very brave for this and now is eating much better!💚

These two wonderful Spaniels Winston and Willow came to visit us recently regarding them both shaking their heads repeatedly! During their clinical examination our vet James found they both had an ear infections, which was what seemed to be causing them both to shake their heads.

After a course of medication Willow and Winston have since been back to see our team for a recheck and we are thrilled to say they are both signed off with no more head shaking and infection! We look forward to seeing Winston and Willow in the future, they are both a pair of treats!🥰💚

Time for another introduction to one of our lovely Referral Medics Rachel who has been with us for 3 years after qualifying back in 2007. Since joining us Rachel has been a friend to all in the team, making time for all who need her!🥰

Rachels favourite part of being a medic at Lime Trees is helping patients with complicated medical conditions get better and seeing their waggy tails and purrs when they get to go home! Additionally, getting snuggles from patients are priceless!🐱🐶

At home Rachel has 5-year-old Labrador Dilly and a Moggy Ernie. In her free time, she enjoys long walks in the countryside with Dilly and wild swimming and horse riding!💚

We would love you to meet another one of our amazing vets Ewa who joined the Lime Trees team back in 2019 after qualifying in 2011. Ewa has sprinkled her excentric and beaming personality around the team since joining us, bringing lots of smiles and positive energy💚

Ewas favourite part of being a vet at Lime Trees is treating her patients and improving their quality of life. Alongside this she also loves being in thearte and putting her all into her surgical cases🥰

Gorgo a Belgian Shepard (who originally came in as a stray!) takes up a lot of Ewa's free time. However, they do both enjoy having long hikes together when they can! Additionally, Ewa has a big love for cars and modification and attending to her veggies and flowers in the garden🪴

🦆Wildlife rescue!🦆

A poorly duck (named Drake by the team!) was brought into the hospital by a lovely member of the public from the surrounding area after they had noticed it had swallowed a fishing hook! After some initial pain relief to keep the little man comfortable, the team induced anesthesia and intubated to allow for imaging and safer removal of the hook.

X-rays revealed that the hook was stuck in Drake's esophagus and would have caused major issues when trying to eat if not removed. Removal was challenging without good visualization, so the team decided to use the endoscope with a camera to have a good look down the esophagus and this made removal much easier!🌟

After the hook was removed, Drake recovered amazingly well from his anesthetic, and was hospitalized overnight to ensure his pain was under control, and he was eating well, before being released back to the same spot he was found the following day💚

Ever wonder what a day to day looks like for our inpatient nurses?💚

▪️ Provide husbandry for the animals in our care through nutrition, administering medications and much needed TLC.
▪️ Carry out medical observations throughout the day. Observations include temperature, heart rate, respiration, blood pressure and pain scoring.
▪️ Help the vet with any procedures. These can include x-rays, ultrasound scans, surgeries or further diagnostics.
▪️ Ensure patients observations are added to hospital records.
▪️ Giving updates to owners letting them know how their beloved pet is doing.
▪️ Take blood, urine and dermatology samples and running in house diagnostics.
▪️ Aid in emergency and critical care cases.
▪️ Triage any patients over the phone with their owner. Conducting a preliminary assessment of the patient in order to determine the urgency of potential treatments.
▪️ Make sure all clinical areas and tidy and clean.

Whilst this is already an extensive list of roles that our inpatient nurses can provide, there are many more tasks throughout their day that they do! We simply could not run the practice without them. Here is the wonderful Catherine giving Sebastian some love😍

💧Are you aware of blue-green algae?💧

What you need to know:
⚠️ Blue-green algae are tiny bacteria found in still, nutrient-rich water.
⚠️ They produce toxins harmful to dogs; about half of exposed dogs die.
⚠️ Most poisonings occur from drinking or swimming in freshwater lakes and ponds.
Symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, and seizures can appear within an
hour.
⚠️ Prevent poisoning by avoiding risky areas, checking algae warnings, and rinsing dogs after swimming.

Handsome Dexter is a 6 year old German Shepard Cross who recently came to see our team as he was limping and licking at his back paw! During his clinical exam our vet Jess found his toe has some redness and swelling. Medication was dispensed and Dexter was asked to have some rest at home with a buster collar! 🐶🐾

We are pleased to say Dexter has since been back for a recheck and has been signed off by Jess! Our team are so pleased he is doing better and can get back to having lots of walks. Here is a photo of him during one of his visits, enjoying a treat!💚

The wonderful Lily, a 4-year-old Lurcher came to our hospital recently for punch biopsies with our team regarding some small masses on her skin. Unfortunately, one of the results came back as Hemangiosarcoma which is a malignant cancer of blood vessel cells. Understandably this was a very worrying result for Lily’s owners.

Therefore, our vet Anna advised further imaging to rule out the spread causing internal tumors. Brave Lily was admitted for CT scan with results confirming a mass on her spleen. Lily was further admitted for further surgery to remove her spleen. This was done to determine if the mass was in fact a Hemangiosarcoma. The surgery was successful, and the lab results have confirmed the tumor is benign, which is amazing news!🥰

We have since seen Lily for post op checks and is well on the mend after her surgery! Here is a photo of her during her recovery and another of her enjoying the sunshine! We look forward to seeing Lily back and for her sign off to be complete! 💚

Meet the lovely Senna - a 6 year old Pug who recently has been discharged from the hospital. Senna stayed with us for a few days after being admitted as he had difficulty breathing! After some investigations with the team and X-rays of his chest Senna was started on medications for Aspiration Pneumonia.

After a few days of hospitalisation, medications and round the clock nursing and vet care Senna improved enough to be discharged🥳

Here is a photo of him in consult for a check-up with Bex one of our vets. We are so glad Senna is feeling better and look forward to seeing him again soon!❤️
