Lime Trees Vets

Lime Trees Vets Lime Trees Vets supply caring and professional veterinary services to pets in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Staffordshire Moorlands.

We also differ to local practices as we also offer referral services in small animal surgery and internal medicine at our hospital in Meir Park. We are fortunate enough to be the host practice for Vets Now, so you will not need to travel to a different veterinary practice as the out of hours service will be provided from Lime Trees Veterinary Hospital – Meir Park. We are an ISFM Accredited Cat Fri

endly Clinic and we have cat-friendly waiting areas, meaning your cat is separated from other animals when they visit the vets, making their experience much less stressful. To find out more about Lime Trees Vets, please visit our website: www.limetreesvets.co.uk

Today we remember all of the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country. We also remember the animals who served alongside them.

They trusted, they followed, they fell. They are the selfless heroes of man's war.

Time to meet another one of our Veterinary Nurses! The lovely Emily has worked at Lime Trees for a year after being qualified for a total of eight years! We have loved having Emily join the team, she is a friend to all and it's like she has worked with us for years! 💚

Emily most enjoys the people that she works with and nurse consultations. In her spare time she enjoys knitting and spending time with her son Tristan! 💚😀

As the dark evenings draw in firework season is upon us! Are you worried about your pets during firework season? 🐶🐱🐇

Here are our top tips to keep your furry friend happy and safe:

· Try to keep your pets indoors before dark and walking your dogs before the night draws in. This will reduce the risk of them being spooked when they are on walk. Where possible close windows and doors to minimise the noise as much as possible!

· Provide a safe and comfortable hiding place for your pet. For cats you can try a cardboard box, igloo bed or even their cat carrier covered in a blanket. Depending on your cats preference, these can be placed in higher locations on top of wardrobes, or at ground level next to the sofa, or under a table/bed. It helps to use bedding that already smells like your cat so it’s familiar to them. For dogs you can try a crate with a blanket on the top, a large cardboard box or a simple cosy bed.

· Try and remain calm! If you are more calm this will aid your pets in feeling more relaxed.

· Create distractions, offer them a new interactive toy or treats in a puzzle feeder to keep their minds focused away from the fireworks. Having the TV or radio on at home can help with any noises from outside.

· Implement pheromone sprays and plug ins around the home. These can help ease stress and anxiety for animals. You can try and spray your animals hiding spaces!

· Make sure your pets microchip details are up to date, just in case they get spooked whilst outside or any cats haven’t come in before the fireworks begin.

For more guidance and advice, please give us a call and chat to one of our team!💚

What is Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)?
Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria develop defences that protect them from antibiotic medications, making treatment less effective. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an increasing problem worldwide, affecting both human and animal health. Antibiotics are essential when treating many conditions in animals and people, but bacteria are becoming resistant to many antibiotics that we rely on in human and veterinary medicine. Our practice is taking part in the antibiotic amnesty this November. Clients can return any unused or out of date antibiotics to
us for safe disposal💊

Our practice is taking part in the 2024 Antibiotic Amnesty. Throughout November
2024 we are asking pet owners to return any unused or leftover antibiotic
medications to us for safe disposal. Please drop off any unused medications to us at
the practice. You can hand them in to a vet, nurse or the reception team. This
medication might be left-over from a recent prescription, antibiotics that you didn’t
need or out-of-date medication. Let’s keep antibiotics working, together!💚

Daffodils, the facts 🌼

Daffodils are toxic to dogs and cats, and you should be careful if you have them growing on your lawn or if you’re walking your dog through a field that’s full of them. Daffodils contain small crystals that can cause severe tissue irritation.

Symptoms of daffodil poisoning include:
Nausea
Drooling
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Increased heart rate
Abnormal breathing
Abdominal pain

If you think your pet may have been in contact with daffodils or is showing any of these symptoms, contact your local vet ASAP.
