As cats become older they are prone to developing a variety of health conditions such as hyperthyroidism, heart disease, diabetes and osteoarthritis. A recent study shows 40% of cats over the age of 7 had high blood pressure. Additionally, 25% of cats over the age of 15 had chronic kidney disease.
Here at the Cat Clinic we offer a consultation called The Magnificent Moggies Clinic. These consults are aimed at cats over the age of 7 or with cats that have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, diabetes or osteoarthritis.
Within these consultations a nurse specialised in cat behaviour and handling, will discuss with you your cat’s lifestyle and behaviours whilst your feline is exploring the room. After this consultation the nurse will take your cats blood pressure, weight and collect a blood sample and urine test. These tests help screen things like kidney function, thyroid, urinary tract infections, anaemia, inflammatory levels and blood and urine glucose.
Following up you will speak with a vet who will discuss your diagnostic results and perform a full examination. Going forward yourself and the vet will formulate a plan regarding your furry friend, this may involve some lifestyle adaptations, medications or a plan for monitoring in the future. After your initial appointment If all the results from your initial appointment were normal then your vet may recommend that we repeat these tests in 6-12 months time. Give our Cat Clinic a call on 01538 752117 to enquire or book an appointment! ✨🐾

As many of you know - on the 10th June it will be a legal requirement to have your cat microchipped 🐾
Poppy, a beautiful 8 year old domestic shorthair recently came in to our Cat Clinic to be checked for a microchip, as her owners weren't sure if she'd had one as a kitten.
Poppy saw one of our lovely vets Claire, who quickly checked her over using one of our microchip scanners. Poppy was indeed microchipped, had all of her details checked and we made a record of her microchip number.
This was a quick and simple process to ensure Poppy is kept safe. ❤
It is vital to ensure your pet is microchipped so that if they ever went missing, a finder could take them into their local vets to be scanned for a chip and reunite them with their family.
If your cat isn’t already microchipped, please get in touch with our client care team on 01538 752117 to book your cat in for a microchipping appointment. ✨🐱

We would love to introduce one of our amazing Veterinary Surgeons Claire! 🩺✨
Claire qualified from Liverpool Vet School back in 2016 and joined the Lime Trees team back in 2021 so she has been with us for 3 years. Claire is a wonderful vet and we feel very lucky to have her. ❤
When asked her favourite part of being a vet at Lime Trees Claire said “I get a little moment of excitement on the drive to work every day wondering what the day may bring”. 🐾
In her spare time Claire enjoys being out in the countryside walking up a hill, strolling along a beach or simply spending time at the park with her little boy. As well as her hobbies Claire is also married to a farmer so they have a menagerie of animals at home! ✨🐾
The IVC Evidensia Local Community Grant Fund gives ourselves and other practices the opportunity to help make a difference to local communities by applying for a grant to support local causes in which we care about. 🐾
Here at Lime Trees Vets, our Community Grant Fund has been awarded to a local animal welfare charity ‘Cheadle Animal Welfare’ (CAW). CAW is a small registered charity run by multiple dedicated volunteers. CAW was set up in 1968 to look after stray, abandoned and unwanted cats within Staffordshire and the Staffordshire Moorlands area. They also take in those animals made homeless due to death or illness of their owner. The society makes sure that each animal under their care receives any required veterinary treatment and also pledge that no healthy animal is destroyed. 🐱🐶🐾
As a practice we believe that CAW deserve this grant, due to the dedication, commitment and love they put into every animal that comes into their care. No matter the age, medical condition or background; no stone is ever left unturned to find a furever perfect home for each cat or dog. CAW is a fantastic charity, and should be extremely proud of the work they do. ❤🎊

He was extremely well behaved and enjoyed exploring the Clinic after his procedure. Here he is enjoying a roam, having just polished off a bowl of chicken and having lots of cuddles and attention with the nurses. ✨❤

Prevention is better than cure! Untreated high blood pressure in cats can lead to serious and irreversible damage to the heart, brain, kidneys and eyes, resulting in blindness in some cases. By being proactive and booking your cat in for regular blood pressure checks, they could be avoiding the potentially lifethreatening consequences of feline hypertension. #CatBloodPressure #FHAM
Signs of feline hypertension are often invisible and unfortunately, many cats only show signs of hypertension after the disease starts to cause serious damage to their heart, brain, kidneys and eyes. Make sure your cat is getting their blood pressure checked regularly! #CatBloodPressure #FHAM
Did you know that May is Feline Hypertension month? High blood pressure in cats, also known as feline hypertension, is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs in around 1 in 5 cats over 9 years of age. This disease is treatable with medication, but 82% of senior cats don't receive blood pressure checks. Call your vet today to get your cat's blood pressure checked. #CatBloodPressure #FHAM
