We offer the traditional farm veterinary 24 hour emergency cover for calvings, lambings and ill animals in addition to a system of routine preventative health visits concentrating on regular visits to undertake fertility work as well as herd performance monitoring, udder health control, heifer monitoring, infectious disease control and nutritional advice. We undertake consultancy visits on any aspect of farm production or health with a large number of clients making use of our cell-count monitoring service, and we have some of the latest farm data software analysis available via Total Vet which is able to access data from almost any farm program.

Maternity Cover - Ambulatory first opinion equine veterinary surgeon

Our ambulatory equine veterinary team is seeking a full time vet with equine experience, for 12 month maternity cover from June 2025. As a practice we are flexible and whilst cover for a full year would be ideal, we may consider applicants for a shorter period, equally if mutually agreeable, this could progress to a permanent role.

Scarsdale Equine vets are part of a large, multi site, all species practice with the farm and equine facility based on the east side of semi rural Derby. We are a friendly, supportive team with a range of experience from recent graduates to experienced vets and certificate holders, covering all aspects of first opinion equine care with excellent support staff. We have a range of good diagnostic equipment, in house laboratory, inpatient and surgical facilities which allow us to do our job to a high level.

This role is predominantly ambulatory with the option to follow cases through in the clinic. We treat a wide range of horses from competition horses to geriatric ponies and everything in between. We are client care focused team therefore good communication skills and a compassionate approach are very important components to the position. The role may suit a vet part way through GDP or a graduate program as we are experienced in mentoring and training recent graduates.

We offer a good out of hours rota with time off in lieu, company vehicle, phone, RCVS and BEVA membership, CPD allowance and pension scheme and a competitive salary dependent on experience.

Candidates must be registered with the RCVS and be eligible to work as a veterinary surgeon in the UK

Morning Yard Technician

- Hours of Work:

15- 20 hours per week over 5 Mornings (Monday – Friday)

- Role Overview:

We are looking for a positive and self-motivated Equine Yard Technician to work alongside our vets and nursing team to provide high quality husbandry to our equine patients.

- Main Duties:

· General husbandry- mucking out, feeding, watering.

· Paddock maintenance- including poo picking.

· Handling a variety of horses including competition, pleasure and young horses and those used for breeding

· Communicating with colleagues and raising regarding health and welfare of the patient with case vet or nursing team.

· Daily Grooming of inpatients.

· General cleanliness yard and stables including following infection prevention and control and isolation policies and procedures, undertaking post discharge infection control procedures and daily and weekly cleaning procedures.

· Maintenance of the yard including weeding and painting stables when needed.

· Occasionally assist with veterinary procedures including trotting up, lunging and holding for veterinary inspection/procedures.

· Provide excellent customer service to clients and adhere to confidentiality and data protection guidelines

· Monitor and maintain stock levels of hay/haylage, bedding and feed.

- Required Skills and Experience:

· Experience handling a variety of horses

· Experience working on a yard.

· Work independently and as part of a small team

· Self-motivated and able to organise and prioritise own workload

· Good Time Keeper

· Good attention to detail

· Hard working

- Desirable:

· Equine Qualification (BHS, NVQ, PC)

· Experience of veterinary practice

· Good sense of humour
