When you are starting a training programme, for your horse or for yourself, whether it be for general fitness or for rehab (my own shoulder right now!!), the same principles apply.

Make a start, then increase EITHER the number of repetitions which will equate to duration OR the intensity/effort put in.

Regarding riding that could be walking for 20 minutes, then walking for 15 with 5 one minute trots, so total duration is still 20 minutes. Then build up time secondly.

Might sound obvious but often we get carried away and don't build a strong foundation of endurance and strength before getting to the higher levels of training.
