SATURDAY GROUP CLASS.
We are just back from the training shed, as the field is very wet underfoot and flooded in places Group Class is cancelled for tomorrow, so we will see you all next week for the Pack Walk.
On another note - due to the increased chance of fences blowing down or gates being blown open due to the current weather, it is a good time to make sure that your dog has a proper understanding of thresholds as demonstrated below by Hustle and Dante 😊
Hustle Update.
For all those who have been asking how Hustle, my own puppy, is getting on – apologies for not updating this page, I have been so swamped with work, it has been very difficult to find the time to sit down and update things here.
Hustle is now 25 weeks old and weighs about 42.5kg, he has a calm and confident demeanour and still has a high toy & food drive.
He is social and friendly to adults, kids & other dogs, but is not overly excited to meet them or by their presence as he is more interested in interacting with me instead.
Because of his lack of overexcitement he does not pull towards them, jump on them, or be rough with them and greets dogs and people in a calm manner.
To live with – Hustle is fully house trained, he is calm and relaxed inside the home and sleeps outside his crate all the time now.
He doesn’t chew, steal or destroy anything in the house and can be trusted out of my sight. He does not demand attention or get overexcited with visitors or the doorbell.
He eats all his food straight away when I allow him to have it and between him & Dante there is never any fighting or aggression over toys, beds, attention, food or bones. He settles in the car and will happily stay there while I am working with other dogs.
He has been taught all of the obedience commands that he will ever need to know, so now we are just proofing those commands in as many different environments and around as many different distractions as possible.
He walks on a loose leash around all distractions on a flat buckle collar and lead, and has a great recall.
Proofing is about making a command fast and reliable in any situation and without any reward, when that is achieved, then you can say that your dog truly knows the command.
If you are showing the dog the food/toy or rewarding every repetition or step for more than the first 5-6 repetitions of a brand new command that the dog has never done, then you are doing nothing more than bribing the dog an
