Everyone who is thinking of getting dogs should read this because you need to understand this reality:

***I am a 21st century dog.***
-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.
But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for fighting bears.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.

-I am a border collie
I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.

I am ...
I am a 21st century dog.
I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.
Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.
I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow.
You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing.
If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!
If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.
I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.
So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.

Notice from Loudounhill Country bark

Hopefully you will be able to pop up and give John and Julie a wee visit next weekend.
Linda 🐾🐾

We are holding an Open Day of our new facilities on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th October between 11:00 and 14:30.

This will allow you to see our new kennel block, exercise areas and allow us to answer any questions you may have.

If these dates/times are unsuitable we are happy to send over a virtual video tour.

You do not need to book in for a specific time or day, but we would appreciate if you can let us know if you wish to attend just so we have a general idea of numbers.

We look forward to welcoming you next weekend 😊

Many thanks,

Loudounhill Country Bark

Hi,
As you may already be aware Westmains Boarding Kennels Ltd is closing on 31 October 2023 for boarding. After years of excellent service and care for all our dogs’ boarding needs.

I am delighted to introduce Loudounhill Country Bark Ltd to you. Myself and my husband, John, will be officially opening our kennels in the very near future, we currently are in the construction and licencing stage of our venture.

We have known Linda for all our married life, over 30 years, and have had dogs all that time. At present we have 3x four legged friends and 1x three-legged friend. Linda has looked after all our dogs over the years and we were lucky enough to take into our family a wonderful dog who Linda had been caring for whist he waited for a forever home, which turned out to be us.

We are delighted to have Linda coming on board as mentor and advisor. Linda will also be continuing with her grooming business and daycare and we will have a grooming room here at Loudounhill Country Bark to clip or restyle your dog whilst they are boarding with us. We will also offer a bathing and blow dry service if you want your dog to be pampered in any way before returning home.

Gayle, Linda’s daughter, will also be continuing the day care from its current location at Westmains Farm. Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm. Contact 01698 792849 for more details.

Our website is under construction and will be live soon, but we are introducing ourselves to Westmains loyal customers first, enabling you to book any dates that you may have already starting planning, before we go live and the diary fills up.

We offer a quiet, country setting overlooking Loudoun Hill with over three acres of secure garden and wood for your dog to play and explore. Alternatively, if your dog does not enjoy the company of other dogs, we have quiet spaces for alone time or will take them out for walks on a lead if they feel more relaxed being exercised that way. No two dogs are the same and we will listen to you; you know your dog best.

Our kennel block is super insulated and heated, offering plenty of natural light as well as good overhead lighting for the dullest of winter days. We live on site and there will always be a minimum of two people here overnight 365 days a year.

If you have any general enquiries, or would like to book, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Many thanks,

Julie & John

14/02/23

Westmains Boarding Kennels Ltd has given me a wonderful business for 25 years. Since building the company way back in 1998 I have enjoyed every moment immensely. I have learnt many things, made many friends, and have many memories that will stay with me forever. However, everything must come to an end and the time is right for me to hang up my lead and enjoy my retirement,

Therefore, it is with great sadness that I announce Westmains Boarding Kennels Ltd will cease trading from the 31st October 2023. Whilst my time here has been extremely enjoyable, the work life balance has finally taken its toll and the need for a change of pace has come. Providing a service such a kennelling is a hard lifestyle to lead and now feels like the perfect time to enjoy a new life away from the strains of running a business 365 days of the year.

The business will be active up until the 31st October whereby we will cease trading and as such we are no longer accepting new clients.

I am thankful for the opportunities given to me throughout my time with the kennels and have had great satisfaction in taking on the challenges given to me. However, I am thoroughly looking forward to my retirement.

All the staff will miss working with the dogs a great deal and I hope our wonderful clients will stay in touch. We are grateful to have shared so much of our lives with you all and vice-versa. Thank you all for supporting us, especially those who have been there from the beginning. It’s been such a pleasure providing this service throughout the years, watching your dog’s grow, develop and bond with us, is without a doubt the best part of the job and we are grateful for the trust you place in us whilst caring for your beloved pets.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all previous staff (too many to mention) for their invaluable input in making this business the success it has been.

Gayle, Linda & Val wish you all the best for the future, and we will continue to provide our services until Halloween this year.

Yours Sincerely,

Linda Allan

Linda's Trans-Fur-Mations

Hi everyone, as there are very few dogs boarding at present because of this pandemic, and no one being able to travel. I am undertaking more dog grooming. Therefore, I have created a separate page for my grooming services. I would appreciate If you could give it a like and share to spread the word. Thanks in advance Linda.

Here's hoping it won't be too long before things are back to some sort of normality. Missing all our doggie guests..🐾🐾

If anyone is willing & could spare a few minutes, could they please help kennel, cattery and other animal care businesses by signing the below petition. We as a sector have been severely impacted by the covid restrictions & as yet are not recognised as being directly affected by the ongoing travel restrictions.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/560514

We ask that Boarding Kennels and Catteries are recognized as directly and severely suffering from the impact of the Covid travel restrictions and be given access to support in the same way as the travel and hospitality industries.
