If you listen to just one of our podcasts, make it this one!

L*z and Ross are joined by the incredible Julie Shelton from Appledown Dog Rescue. With over 30 years of experience in dog rescue, Julie offers a compelling, yet sobering look into the world of dogs in 2024.

In this episode, we delve into a variety of topics, including:

Professional dog breeders
Overseas dogs
Pedigree dog breeders
XL bullies
Dog wardens

Julie’s insights are both fascinating and eye-opening. We are truly in awe of Julie and the countless individuals like her, who tirelessly champion the cause of dogs. These unsung heroes rarely receive the recognition or rewards they deserve, especially on social media.

We sincerely encourage everyone to help in any way they can and to cherish their dogs even more today.

ANNOUNCEMENT: meet one of the Guild’s new Young Trainer Ambassadors.

Hello! I’m Emily and I am a Canine Behaviourist from South Wales, owner of Perfect Dog Training.
I have been running my business from the age of 19 and I offer Behaviour consultations, Obedience Training, Trick Training, Scent Detection, Puppy Classes and Young Handler classes.

My dog training journey started as a child, growing up with Collies and Gundogs, competing at Agility with my GSP at 11 years old. He taught me so much and showed me the amazing teamwork you can have with a dog, we went on to qualify for Crufts in 2020 and I now compete with my two WCS. Meanwhile, my family built a commercial Doggy Daycare, so I have been lucky to observe hundreds of dogs before starting my business. In this time, I also raised a Guide Dog and started offering training professionally.

Now, I boast professional qualifications that I’m incredibly proud of with CIDBT, my proudest being Aggression Studies, meaning I can help dogs who need a second chance - the best part of my job! And have even featured on BBC Radio 1 talking about dog behaviour!

Hello, I am Deanna and I am a Professional Dog Trainer from Hertfordshire. My dog training experience commenced when I was 17 years old and worked under a Master Trainer for 5 years gaining valuable experience with many different breeds including large breeds and reactive dogs. During this time, I gained my Assistant Dog Trainer certificate with the GoDT.

I began my journey at college studying for my Diploma in Level 3 Animal Management where I gained a Distinction. Whilst at college I completed work experience with a dog training school and quickly realised that my passion lay with our canine friends. At dog school I run classes (puppy, advanced and Kennel Club awards) and help to teach obedience and agility.

I also gained experience working for a rescue centre where dogs had been brought in from Romania, here I got experience training dogs with various behavioural issues. Learning from these dogs enhanced my training skills and my ability to adapt to various situations. I found the success with the rescue dogs was extremely rewarding. I spent many hours with them gaining their trust and creating the essential bond needed to be successful with training.

It was at this point that I decided that I wanted to further my knowledge and I embarked on my CIDBT course, Level 4 Dog Training Instructor programme (1 year) which I have recently completed. I am also Canine First Aid trained and have undertaken various courses related to dog behaviour.
With the knowledge and experience gained over the years I have embarked on my new business venture, Dee4Dogs and am enjoying being able to share my knowledge with dog owners whilst helping them to overcome various challenges with their dogs.
