Show Secretary Report from Tracey
BAGSD SHOW: 23/9/23
The usual post show Oscars speech! đ
We are hugely grateful to everyone who helped make the show a success. I wonât even try to name people as I would definitely leave someone out, so if you helped in any way, thank you!!
A huge thank you to Kathy, Peter and Bryan for all of their help, organisation and the use of their equipment for our show. We really do appreciate it! I think we all worked well together, thanks for the excellent banter, it made show management good fun! đ
The new venue is fabulous and we are very lucky that Kathy worked wonders, somehow convincing Walsall council to allow it to be used for longer than their usual rules allow.
Thank you to everyone for leaving it in such good condition, it was absolutely spotless when we left. It was noticed by the local park users, who thanked us for looking after it so well!
We had a very short retirement from running shows (about 3 weeks!) before we were talked into taking on the BAGSD show this year.
We were promised loads of help from the members of the local Walsall branch of the association and they certainly delivered! We had so many willing helpers that they were queued up for jobsâŚmany had never been to an obedience show before, but they learnt on the job and everyone did a fabulous job. From catering to car parking to scent decoy, they did it all. Thank you everyone!
The boys from Lichfield must get a mentionâŚthey are the most helpful and friendly guys, nothing is too much trouble and they do not stop working from the second they get up. Thanks boys!
Thanks to Sandra Cobbold for all of her help on the day and to Jane Barstow for acting as our chief steward.
Obviously, there has to be a negative part.
I was very disappointed to overhear competitors being rude to the boys as they were parking people.
Yes, parking was tight on the first dayâŚit wouldnât have been if people had taken their allotted spaces for camping, rather than spreading out across multiple pitches.
That is absolutely no reason to be rude to people volunteering so that shows can go on. The people I heard on the day were spoken to, but the boys told me they werenât the only ones. Itâs very lucky that they are amazing and werenât put off by this!
Let me remind you that show societies can refuse entries and will, if that type of thing happens in future.
Back to the positivesâŚwe had good weather, lots of laughs and loads of amazing cake!
99.9% of people seemed to be enjoying themselves, most people loved the new venue and the local people were happy with us being there (Iâm hearing very strange things about people being given firemanâs lifts and offered showers!!đ) The walks are amazing and everyone seemed to be enjoying exploring!
We are still looking for a few judges for next year (Saturday 21st September 2024) so if you like cake, have a good sense of humour and want to volunteer, please shout up now! â¤ď¸
Iâve attached a picture of the type of cake and cheese selection (amazing work by one of the Walsall BAGSD members Vicky), just to tempt you all more đ
Looking forward to seeing everyone next year! đž â with Beatrix Benton.
