Giving your dog a splash pool can provide enrichment, fun and an opportunity to cool down on hot days 💦 I find the solid children’s sandpit bases are perfect for avid splashers who can rip the bottoms of dog paddling pools. (His sister doesn’t like sharing!)

Loose-lead walking isn't about formal heelwork. It just takes perseverance and practice, but is so worth it to see a happy dog strolling along beside you. I also find it transfers to off-lead work as they become happy to remain in a relaxed position by your side.

One reason for training a recall is for the eventuality of your dog getting out of your front door when you’re greeting visitors or like me today - doing something such as unloaded shopping from the car. A test of my dogs’ self discipline, one knew not to cross the boundary and stayed where she was. The other, decided to jump in the car, climb over the shopping and sit in the boot! 🙄

Remember - take care of your dog in hot weather. If they really need a walk, take them out early morning or late evening when it is much cooler and less risk of them burning their paws and getting heat exhaustion.

Working on our freeze on scent again. This dog has never done any scentwork before and working through the desire to pick things up has been hard. Really pleased to see how he’s coming on, and excited to see how he progresses on his scent course.

Working on our freeze on scent and duration. This dog has done scentwork before and her indication was to lie down and bark. The freeze is new to her so I’m having to preempt the down at the moment.

Use every walk as a training opportunity. Today in the forest we practised off-lead control walking past people and other dogs, safe interactions meeting new furry friends and whistle recall with all the sights and smells of forest distractions. Followed by a shower as he smelled bad afterwards! 🤣
