🧵 REPAIR - RECYCLE - REUSE 🪡

Leather Repairs is a regular service that Saddlers provide, from mending broken parts, to changing tired and worn girth straps on saddles.

My repair services start from £26ph (plus materials).

Yes, you can buy something new, cheaper, less quality, but my gosh, it won't have the memories or the sentimental value of that leather item you've been keeping for years because it once fitted your old horse or pony.

Here's a blog post I wrote, about some leather repairs, I did recently.

Repairing leather headcollars is great for the environment and you get to keep a sentimental piece of history.

👒 RESTORING AN EDWARDIAN HAT BOX 🎁

I had the absolute pleasure of being approached by a local lady to initially replace a broken leather strap on this vintage hat box.

It turned out to be more of a project than originally thought... It had had woodworm 😱🤦‍♀️

However, the job became a little more than just the strap.

As you all know here at The Society of Master Saddlers we are passionate about all things saddlery. We want to spread that passion with our FIT 4 WELFARE Club. The aim of the Club is to educate and inform horse owners, riders and trainers on all aspects of correctly fitting saddlery for the welfare of horses used in sport as well as looking at horse fitness and care, and rider fitness and safety.

Club members will have access to an exclusive area of the website with new content uploaded monthly, live and pre recorded webinars, latest research relating to tack fit and guest speakers. Topics will include rider and horse fitness, biomechanics, muscular skeletal therapies, bit, bridle and saddle fit. It's nearly the weekend, which means I will be demonstrating hand stitching leatherwork on the The Society of Master Saddlers stand at the National Equine Show this Saturday and Sunday.

The SMS are also launching their Fit4Welfare club as well as talking all things saddlery fitting and leather making.

We also have Suzi Fletcher coming on Saturday to demo making a belt. So be sure to check out our stand.

On Tuesday 6th February I attended the National Saddlery Competition 2024 at Saddlers Hall in London. It was so amazing to be back.

On route to Saddlers Company & Saddlers Hall, LONDON for the The Society of Master Saddlers National Saddlery Competition.

After a rough few weeks of illness, I managed to complete two of four items I was planning to enter into the competition.

I don't feel they were my best work but they were OK to enter, and being as you have to enter to get a ticket to attend, I had to enter something.

I can't wait to visit Saddlers Hall again and see all my fellow Saddlers and colleagues on the Executive Committee.

No pictures allowed yet, until after the awards presentation this evening, but I'll get some later.

Fingers crossed to all the wonderful saddlers who have entered. 🤞🙏❤️
