Is someone sheltering under your car? 🐱❄️
Cats often seek warmth under car bonnets or near engines in winter. Here’s how you can help keep them safe:
Where to Check:
• Under the bonnet: Cats may crawl into engine compartments for warmth.
• Wheel Wells: Cats might snuggle near tyres for shelter.
• Underneath the Car: Look beneath the car as they can hide close to the engine.
Dangers:
• Engine Injuries: Starting the car can harm or kill a cat hiding around the engine area.
• Crushing Hazards: Cats sleeping near or behind tyres can be run over.
• Cold Shock: If startled, cats may stay hidden in dangerous spots or dash into traffic.
Advice:
• Tap the bonnet: Knock or bang on the bonnet before starting your car.
• Inspect Your Car: Check under the car and around the wheels visually.
• Honk the Horn: Briefly honk to give hiding cats a chance to escape.
• Warm Parking Options: Use a garage when possible.
• Spread Awareness: Encourage other drivers to check their vehicles during winter months.
