We are proud to have high standards and do not compromise on these standards of care for the health and welfare of the pets we treat, under any circumstances. We are also proud to have remained independent of the national companies in order to maintain our core principles of being caring, friendly and reasonably priced, whilst providing the highest standards of veterinary medicine and surgery and preventative health care. Our team are animal lovers who are passionate about their work. We take pride in getting to know our clients and their pets and are always happy to give informal advice, either in person or over the telephone. The wellbeing of our patients is at the centre of what we do; this means we will treat your pets as if they were our own.

Is someone sheltering under your car? 🐱❄️

Cats often seek warmth under car bonnets or near engines in winter. Here’s how you can help keep them safe:

Where to Check:
• Under the bonnet: Cats may crawl into engine compartments for warmth.
• Wheel Wells: Cats might snuggle near tyres for shelter.
• Underneath the Car: Look beneath the car as they can hide close to the engine.
Dangers:
• Engine Injuries: Starting the car can harm or kill a cat hiding around the engine area.
• Crushing Hazards: Cats sleeping near or behind tyres can be run over.
• Cold Shock: If startled, cats may stay hidden in dangerous spots or dash into traffic.
Advice:
• Tap the bonnet: Knock or bang on the bonnet before starting your car.
• Inspect Your Car: Check under the car and around the wheels visually.
• Honk the Horn: Briefly honk to give hiding cats a chance to escape.
• Warm Parking Options: Use a garage when possible.
• Spread Awareness: Encourage other drivers to check their vehicles during winter months.

A few extra seconds can save a life! Help spread the word to protect our feline friends this winter. 🐾🚗

🐾Meet the team🐾

Julia is one of our talented receptionists here at Stowe Veterinary Centre and has been with us as a receptionist for two years. Before having her son, she worked in our pet shop for five years. Julia’s typical day includes answering client enquiries, scheduling appointments, assisting with admissions for surgeries, and offering care advice. She’s always ready to lend a helping hand and ensures all clients receive the best care and guidance for their pets.

Julia is very dedicated to her role, always making sure that both clients and their beloved animals receive the best care.

Outside of work, Julia loves to travel and spend time with her family and cat. She also has a 14-year-old cat named Lily, whom she rescued as a kitten. Lily had a tough start in life and was very timid at first, but with Julia’s love and encouragement, she has flourished and now enjoys cuddles from the whole family.

❄️Antifreeze Safety❄️

As the temperature drops, be mindful of the hidden dangers lurking in your garage or driveway. Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is highly toxic to pets—even a small amount can be deadly.

🐕 Why it’s dangerous:
Antifreeze has a sweet taste that attracts pets, but it can cause kidney failure within hours of ingestion.

🔒 How to protect your pets:
• Store antifreeze securely and out of reach.
• Clean up any spills immediately.
• Consider using pet-safe antifreeze (propylene glycol-based).

⏰ Act fast: If you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze, contact your vet or an emergency clinic immediately.

We provide 24-hour emergency care with our dedicated on-site team. Our duty staff monitor inpatients day and night, ensuring their comfort and wellbeing with regular check-ins.

Keep your furry friends safe this winter!

De-icers and grit can be harmful to pets' paws and health. After walks, check and rinse their paws to remove any residue. If ingested, de-icing chemicals can cause stomach upset or more serious issues. Always store these products safely out of reach.

🐾Meet the team🐾

Rosie has always had a deep passion for animals, developing an interest in dog grooming at the young age of 13. She went on to study animal care and management before qualifying as a dog groomer in 2009.

Rosie is dedicated to making sure every dog in her care receives plenty of attention and cuddles during their grooming session. She loves building lasting relationships with regular clients and their pets, while also enjoying the opportunity to meet new dogs. Helping nervous dogs feel comfortable and safe throughout the process is something she takes great pride in, and she’s always thrilled to see their confidence grow over time.

In her spare time, Rosie enjoys spending quality moments with her family and visiting the seaside. In her personal life, Rosie’s love for dogs continues as she cares for her two furry companions, Princess Poppy and Ernie.

🎄🐾 Christmas Treats to Avoid for Your Pets! 🐾🎄

This festive season, let’s keep our furry friends safe and sound! ❤️ While we indulge in Christmas goodies, remember that some treats can be dangerous—or even toxic—for pets.

🚫 Chocolate, raisins and sugar-free snacks with artificial sweeteners 🍫
🚫 Cooked bones and fatty foods 🥩
🚫 Christmas dishes with onions, garlic, or nutmeg 🧅
🚫 Alcohol and unbaked yeast dough 🍷

Keep human food out of paws’ reach and remind guests not to sneak scraps under the table.

Let’s make this a season of joy, not vet visits!

🎄 Christmas Tree Safety Tips for Pets 🎄

Christmas trees are festive but can pose hidden dangers to pets, ie. sharp pine needles and fragile ornaments. 🐶🐱

Keep decorations pet-friendly, secure the tree to a wall if possible and avoid using any tinsel or ribbons, glass baubles and anything edible. Chocolate tree decorations are definitely something to be avoided!
