Ace was brought in yesterday to collect his flea and worming treatment. At twelve weeks his owners are ensuring that along with being safely socialised they are also giving him opportunities to become comfortable and confident with us and around the practice. We got to spend time with Ace, his owners are starting to teach him boundaries and expectations and it is always wonderful to see owners investing in the long term for themselves and their pets - literally “acing it”!….

As a practice we collectively do lots of small things; we try to be paper free and use and for patient records, our chosen pension provider, NEST Pensions are ranked #3 in the UK based on their climate plans, we constantly look to reduce our anaesthetic gas use, we use buster collars that are made from recycled materials, we recycle batteries and crisp packets, we buy our milk from Suffolk Dairies Limited in glass bottles, we shred our paper and compost it with our kitchen waste on site, we have a soda stream, we have someone who knits dishcloths(!), we plant for pollinators and look after all sorts of bees, we have oxygenating plants and more…. We had some wonderful cards throughout the festive season and this one struck a real chord. As we carried wine in to the practice this evening ahead of a team dinner tomorrow night there were emergency surgeries still going on, patients in all the wards being cared for, receptionists telling new starters what a difference they have already made to the team, animal care assistants approaching us to ask about the possibility of nursing apprenticeships, vets thanking each other for their team work and nurses being proud of one of our own being published in the . There was “all round terrificness” all around us….

We took some time over the Christmas period; always caring but also recuperating, reappraising, reflecting. We have started the new year with so much opportunity ahead of us.

As ever, we know that we are privileged to walk alongside the people that choose us to help them care for the animals at the heart of their lives. Those relationships touch us too, and we remember them as we go on……. We are closing at 4pm this evening and will reopen for all veterinary services at 8.30am on Thursday 2 January 2025.

Our commitment to personal veterinary care remains; our team will be caring for all of our ongoing medical cases and patients at the practice and we are here as usual for all genuine veterinary emergencies for our clients.

To refer an orthopaedic, surgical or ophthalmological case please contact us as usual.

As we move into the new year with our patients, we wish all of our clients a wonderful year ahead.

We had the pleasure of meeting some of the team from today who came for a business meeting. Ezra the deputy managing director, Beth the sales director and Lewie the IT director came to pitch their &fur dog products to us. The Vet’s Wife immediately bought a luxury pamper & play box for Christmas and after some tough questioning The Vet gave them the green light. This afternoon Lisa our practice manager listed their products and we are an official &fur stockist! - Come and grab some all natural doggy products or a rather festive canine bow tie for your favourite canine friend…..

Nelly - assiduously cared for and compassionately held till the end…..

It is with very heavy hearts that we give you the pupdate we never thought we would have to!

Gorgeous 1 year old Nelly 🖤🐾 who came into our care just 1 week ago today, has sadly made her way to Rainbow Bridge, after Debenham Vets did all they could to save her.

Unfortunately the CT Scan revealed a birth defect affecting her "waterworks" that ultimately chronically damaged both of her kidneys, causing an infection and high temperature.

To all the team involved, especially Heather, Ben, Marie, Lucy, Harriet and Jess, thank you for your dedication, care and most of all compassion as always.

To our distraught Foster family, thank you for loving her and giving her everything she needed, your empathy and sharp wits when you realised something wasn't right.

This is never an outcome we want, but we had to consider what was best for Nelly and she is now pain free.

Gone but never Forgotten 🖤🌈💔

Our community action started early this morning with The Vet’s Wife collecting and rehanging all the baubles that had blown off the village Christmas tree this morning.

She has also joined Debenham Green Team out side this morning till 11 and is selling sustainable Christmas gifts from Street Forge Workshops at Thornham and Mr R. (Who is married to rather marvellous Referral Co-ordinator - do take your recycling and the opportunity to support local initiatives and be more sustainable…
