Paris we leave with only wanting more. Just as the storms raged across the night skies, you raged into our hearts. You showed us beauty everywhere; a more sustainable with venues in your existing architectural and cultural wonders, games makers of every creed, colour and physicality and all with French style.

We held our breath, we screamed with hope, we danced with delight at Olympian effort and we yelled with you as you brought the athletics stadium to a halt as the world seemed to pause to watch your .marchand31 win again. You shared your passion in every stadium and on every street - Paris thank you for everything, you were MAGNIFIQUE!

Sophie belongs to a long standing client and came in yesterday for a vaccination.

A lot has changed since Sophie first came to Debenham Vets. Instead of Pete doing all the ophthalmology and all the first opinion vet work we now have 4 ophthalmologists, 6 first opinion vets and two small animal surgeons, an awful lot more nurses, animal care assistants and an amazing cleaner. We have a great admin team to help with insurance claims and referrals, we have moved into a much bigger building, we have endoscopes, a stellar new ultrasound, a CT scanner, operating microscopes, an incredible surgical suite with implants and kit a plenty, a lab with bells and whistles...

What hasn’t changed is our personal investment. We still offer our own, in house 24 hour emergency service. We still invest in our community. We recruit for intention and personality alongside clinical skill and acumen. Whatever our facilities and equipment, it is our team that make the difference.

Sophie was taken home to her now housebound owner with a bunch of freshly picked sweet peas from our garden - because we care. Together as a team we are Debenham Veterinary Practice.

Olive came in as a rescue case through with her mum. She was a scrap of a kitten and her mother all needed attention. worked with us to ensure they had all the care they needed but while they were with us, Gilly from our client care team fell in love with them. This weekend Olive went with her mum to her new home with Gilly’s son who adopted them as a family pair. We see a lot of kitten adoptions but very few family groups so along with the connection to our team this was a really special happy ending….

You have just over a week to microchip your cat before new legislation comes into force on 10 June. Along with avoiding a fine of up to £500, it gives you and your cat the best chance of being reunited if the worst happens.

This photograph looks simple enough, but tells a far more involved and complex picture - that of veterinary nursing.

Beyond the veterinary nurse you see at the admit or discharge appointment or in a clinic with your pet they are also the veterinary nurse who monitored the anaesthetic during the surgery, the one who assisted the vet surgeon during the procedure, the one who took the X-Rays of your cat’s broken leg, the one who cleaned the burst abscess, the one who is doing a masters in veterinary anaesthesia, the one who descaled your dog’s teeth, the one who painstakingly went through the do’s and donts of your new rabbit’s diet, the one who has a Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing, the one who saw your dog crashing in recovery and gave them life supportive treatment as the rest of the team raced to wards, the one who gave hours of gentle encouragement and physiotherapy to your dog after their emergency spinal surgery, the one who spotted the cancerous cells under the microscope, the one who coached the student nurse through her practical exams, the one who just sat with your nervous dog in wards because it made a difference, the one who made that gut wrenching moment as you sat with your pet as their life ended that little bit easier, never intruding and just catching your elbow with a light touch or your eye as you left, the one who got through another load of veterinary laundry in between and, in amongst all of that, found the time to message the practice owner to let them know that they should come and find the junior animal care assistant because she had just received a distinction in her college vet research project but was too shy to tell anyone….

Our Debenham Vets team are all of this and more. They have helped to create the foundation of our practice and are mentoring and enabling the veterinary nurses of the future.

Pumpkin sees our and teams regularly. Along with careful management of her glaucoma she has had cardiac assessment and ongoing dental management. Her owner, Kate, has built a strong relationship with our teams which enables us to help her in giving Pumpkin really personal ongoing care. Recently we were really touched when we were gifted a copy of book, “Wolf and Bear” - and taken by surprise by a children’s book that speaks with such clarity and insight about hope, kindness and the mental health struggles that we can all face. We often find that our clients are also a real gift…..

Zebedee recently had a lucky escape after eating slug pellets.

No matter how hard we try we aren’t always so successful with pets who have eaten these types of poison, sometimes the damage to their internal organs is too great, their seizures intractable or they just don’t get to us in time.

Please be careful this bank holiday weekend in your gardens and if your dog is off the lead or your cat is a roamer.

Along with the danger to your pets slug pellets pose an enormous risk to wildlife too.

If you want to protect your prize hostas, delphiniums and dahlias consider alternatives like gravel, wool pellets and copper rings.

Oakley has been a loyal and handsome client since his owners arrived in the village. Already throwing themselves into village life they have recently had to schedule Oakley’s walks around their enormous efforts to convert a horsebox into a mobile coffee and treat venue and we are delighted to be hosting for their first village community foray in our car park between 10am and 2pm tomorrow (Sunday 12 May). We are DOG FRIENDLY so pop in before or after your walk in the sunshine….

Chloe, Jessica, Jemma and Megan are part of our nurse clinic team, running a special series of free mobility clinics to highlight . Aiming to introduce owners to possible early signs and easy to follow pain and mobility scoring their hope is to improve by helping owners become better informed about signs and all the options available through holistic care plans. Puzzle has been regularly seeing our vets and nurse clinic team since 2022 when the arthritis in her toes was first noticed and with good management she bounded in to see us today.

We have a remarkable veterinary nursing team at the practice, with an enormous skill set and variety of special interests. Their backgrounds vary enormously, their passions come from vastly different experiences but they all share enormous compassion and dedication. We are always privileged to have them as part of our team and are delighted to highlight some of the incredible contributions they make now in

We love sharing the joy when you come to the practice with your new puppy. Seeing them grow and flourish and stay healthy is incredibly rewarding for us but the visit itself is also incredibly important. Being exposed to different environments, other animals and people is a really key part of their socialisation and crucially making them comfortable and familiar with your practice sets them up well for the years ahead.

Yesterday 3 month old Pumba came in for a health check and saw Jemma. Alongside her veterinary physiotherapy, Jemma is passionate about nurse clinics and the opportunities they bring to build relationships of trust with owners whilst providing key healthcare for pets. Jemma has years of experience and a super calm nature and when beautiful Pumba was so relaxed and dozed off in the spring sunshine during the consult we knew that the visit couldn’t have gone better!

The wondrous Greengrocer at W A Ward Greengrocers turned 60 today.

The Vet’s Wife had a particularly soft spot for him, not just because of his decades of traditional and very personal customer service, not just for his extraordinary efforts during Covid,
not just because of the years he spent on the Parish Council investing in the village and community, not just because of his decades as a Church Warden at Aspall church (and organising the chocolates in the Church Christmas trees and the nibbles for the carol services), not just because of his dry sense of humour and ability to laugh, not just because of his unwavering commitment to his family, not just because of the way he turned his garden into a Christmas tree grotto every year and turned his brother in law into a Christmas elf with an endless supply of chocolates for everyone who came to buy a tree, not just because of his wonderful sister who quietly supported him, not just because of the commitment he demonstrated every day but also because he was a quietly supportive and steadfast member of the community and friend.

What better way to celebrate your greengrocer friend than to ambush him with a carrot cake amongst his vegetables……
