We had a visit yesterday from the inspirational vet Tom Lonsdale. Here he is signing copies of his books which will be in our reading area once it’s sorted and after we have read and digested them. A great advocate for feeding raw meaty bones for all round health and also highlighting the issues with ultra processed foods.
We have a section on our online shop for DIY raw feeders so be sure to check it out.

Important! There is going to be a planned power cut to our building on the morning of FRIDAY 16th August. We will therefore be opening at 2pm so that all the freezers keep happy (and we won’t be able to open the shutter til the power is back) keep an eye on here in case anything changes.

I wasn’t really expecting this but look, we are finalists in another national award! Super pleased with the recognition, now we just have to wait until the end of September to know how we did.
On a different note Jenny is off at the moment as her good knee is no longer as good! Jessy and Franklin will be doing their best to keep on top of everything but some of our own deliveries may be at different times or shipped out by local courier, and things may be just not quite as usual!

Updates and reminders.
We welcome dogs in our shop but we DON’T welcome prong and shock collars.
Deliveries this week will be spread over Wednesday and Thursday but going onwards will just be on Thursdays. Orders need to be in to us by Tuesday lunchtime. This week we are covering the eastern part of our delivery area with our own deliveries.
We have had deliveries from Southcliffe and Totally Natural which will be on the website in time for order cut off.
And lastly black vans really show the dirt from driving around!

Important delivery information.
We have revised our local delivery rates and routes, new timetable will be put up soon. All info is on the Delivery Information page of the website. Good news is we are now covering all of IP, NR, CO, PE31-38, CB7-9. With a combination of our own deliveries and using a local courier service. We have had to change the rates a little bit but we haven’t adjusted our local delivery rates for quite a while. The addition of the local courier also means if you are ordering off schedule we can get the delivery out to you more quickly.
IP1-6, 12,14,21,22,23,30,31,32 are now £5.50, still free over £80 with our own weekly deliveries
All CO and CB7-9 will continue to only be offered on our fortnightly schedule delivery cost £6.95 or free over £100
All NR and other IP areas will be covered by the courier service as well as our own deliveries. Also at £6.95 or free over £100. If you need your order to arrive on a particular day add it to the order notes and we will do our best.
Hope that all makes sense.

A couple of small changes to our opening hours just for next week. Wednesday May 1st we will open later than normal at 10.30.
Saturday May 4th we will close early at 4pm as Jessy and Jenny are off to The Dog Expo which is happening on Sunday and they want to get on the road a bit sooner, to arrive in time to socialise with other likeminded people!
We will of course be closed on the Bank Holiday Mondays in May like we are for every bank holiday!

In other news Southcliffe arrived yesterday so we are well stocked with that, Jessy forgot what day it was with ordering The Dogs Butcher but they are very kindly bringing us some tomorrow.

Our grooming facility offerings have had a bit of a change. Karen has taken a significant step towards retirement. Jessy will be doing a couple of days a week (as if she didn’t have enough to do, but it does make a change!) We are also giving people the opportunity to pay for use of the bath, table and dryer to do self service doggo washes (shampoo and towels also provided). Contact us for details.

Here is a chance to support Suffolk Animal Rescue. We have a trolley full of cans which we have subsidised to sell at £1 each for the food to go straight into the rescue donations. All the food meets our high standards so the rescue doggos can get good quality dinners. We have even added them to the website so people further away can buy a can for the doggos. Saddened to see more adverts locally for so called trainers advertising quick fix dog training involving outdated and punitive methods on local groups. If you are looking for a good and ethical trainer head over to our website where we have a list. I’m sure there are some more that should be on there but the ones on there are the good ones we know at the moment. As an aside, dogs are always welcome in store but prong collars and shock collars are not. No dog whatever breed needs a heavy hand!

Lots of deliveries again this week. Restocking Southcliffe and Premium Raw treats and chunks. Southclffe have brought out these super cute 150g cat food. There are 5 varieties in total chicken, turkey, duck, beef and lamb. All labels show taurine content. Affordable prices that will hopefully encourage more owners to try raw for their cats. Cats can be more difficult to transition than dogs but it is worth it for better health and much less stinky litter trays! The 150g packs would also be useful for small dog owners! We also took delivery of DogsFirst new yeast busting Propythium and a top up of PowerPaste. New lines will go on the website tonight.

This week is crazy! 😜 We have had in so far, Paleo Ridge, Benyfit Natural, Betsy’s, and Natures Menu, today we are expecting Cotswold, Nutriment and Naturaw. As well as Barker & Barker, JR pet products and other bits and bobs from our mixed wholesalers. We also have on order Totally Natural (including some new venison based ones) Furry Feasts, Natural Instinct, The Dogs Butcher and Akela. All this whilst getting ready for Panto, opening night tonight! Look at how fab Jessy and Frankie are doing! Do try to get along and watch the show. You know it’s going to be good when the production crew laughed so much their chuckle muscles hurt even though they know what’s coming! You can book tickets or buy on the door!

Saturday musings, around 80% of women wear the wrong size bra, a lot of dogs wear the wrong size or style of harness. I know this by the number of dogs I see out walking who are wearing harnesses that move around, rub, restrict movement or generally look uncomfortable. I have attempted to take some pictures of Lola in harnesses that fit badly (this has proved somewhat difficult as we don't stock most of the badly fitting harnesses I have seen!) Please note I have deliberately fitted these harnesses on Lola to show issues, we have also had her in these harness types fitting well. The main picture shows a well fitting harness it is snug around the neck and body with a gap behind the front legs so the webbing isn't rubbing. The second picture shows this harness in a size smaller, it goes on her, goes round her ribcage but it sits into her armpits and would rub and be uncomfortable for her to walk in.
The turquoise H harness is too big, I see a lot of dogs in harnesses which move around excessively. A harness that is too big is also an escape hazard. This harness also sits a long way back on the body, yes that gives lots of clearance to the front legs but it is virtually off the end of her ribcage and the body strap should not sit on the soft part of the belly.
The fleece harness is just not a good fit for Lola. The body strap is virtually let out all the way but the neck is far too large. Again a large risk of escape. I can't show any pictures of movement restricting harnesses as we don't have any of that shape, but the shoulders need to be able to move freely and they can't if there is a strap across them.
In all it is best to bring your dog for a fitting, not every brand suits every dog (a bit like bras really!)

Been busy restocking, The Dogs Butcher freezers got filled yesterday. We are expecting more raw deliveries later on this week. The rest of the new Lickimats have arrived so even more options now available (Jasper used his lickimat last night to take his mind off the thunderstorm!) We are showcasing some of our new lines. We have new toys from Hugglehounds and Outward Hound, both of which are described as tougher as far as plush toys go! Hugglehounds have a toughened lining and the Outward Hound have invincible squeaks! We also have the new Ready Raw from Paleo Ridge Raw dog food in handy 200g pouches, they defrost really quickly , great for small dogs and for cats. Last but not least we have the new Natures Menu Country Hunter snack bars. They break up easily so are great for training rewards, healthy too!
