Hearing Test
For anyone interested in how a BAER hearing test is conducted, here is a video from earlier this week.
Julia (formally Animal Health Trust, and now working at Davies Veterinary Specialists) was instrumental in developing the BAER test and is arguably one of the most (if not the most) knowledgeable and qualified people in the world at administering it. This is why we travel 2hrs to see her rather than any old ‘man in a van’ that now seem to offer this service.
Each test takes a matter of minutes, absolutely no stress to mum or pups, and costs £50. Why wouldn’t you have it done?
This litter is the 4th generation I’ve had tested, the 7th year I have tested, and 6 years of perfect results… but I’ll still test every litter I breed.
If puppies aren’t active and doing this when you visit, walk away!!
Pups should be full of beans, confident, inquisitive and bright. If they are huddled into a corner of the pen, or floppy/listless then walk away and find another breeder.
All our pups are born and raised in our busy farmhouse; they get used to all the noises associated with life on a farm, including bird scarers and the local gun club practicing on our range - this doesn’t mean they will always be good with loud noises, but it definitely helps that they’re exposed to so many things early on and learn they have nothing to fear.
Obliviously playing last night whilst the battle of the Somme raged around us (aka bonfire night) with village displays kicking off at 6pm and still hearing fireworks at 11pm!!
Playtime!!
Due to the KC dragging their heels, we have two pups still searching for their humans.
Rudi and Darwin, our two deaf boys, enjoying a good run around in our field this afternoon. One of the reasons I had the fencing done this way was so that they could run around off lead in a safe environment.
One of our Riopups (2018 litter) enjoying a dip in this hot weather 😍🥵
Pups starting to teeth on their Coffee Wood chews (these are great!)
I send all pups off with a Coffee Wood chew (pre-chewed 🤣) so they have something they are used to/meant to teeth on; attempting to save skirting boards and door frames 🤭
When I say our dogs work on the farm.... 🤔🤣
Raisin is chief tractor dog 🥰
Anyone who visits us will know how much I rate the canine water bottles - I use these on crates when travelling or at shows. An easy way to ensure they have access to water at all times without flooding a crate trying to drive with a water bowl in there.
I’m often asked how I train the dogs to drink from the bottle. Well, it starts as puppies - this is the first bottle these guys have had. A weak lactol/water mix which I make weaker each day until it’s just water.
Not the most tidy breakfast guests 😂
Hoovering the kitchen - pups aren’t too worried 😂
Teaching a deaf dog new tricks 😂 yes our kitchen floor is covered in muddy paw prints 🤦♀️ 🐶
Chadbrook Elka in Terrier Puppy Group pre judging.
Is teaching a deaf dog harder? No, you just need to use your hands!
Got rid of the fuzzy look and now we can go faster 😂
