*Polite notice*
ALL dogs must be brought to the salon from the car on a lead or if small enough carried WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Absolutely no loose dogs in my garden. Also if your dog needs to relieve him/herself this must be done before you get here and not in my garden WITHOUT EXCEPTION. This is my home, and the home of my own dogs as well as my workplace and I want to keep as safe as environment for everyone's pets as possible, limiting the spread of bugs so please bring dogs straight from the car into the salon directly and make sure they have relieved themselves before arriving....

It's wonderful to be so well supported by local dog owners who have chosen Springfern to keep their dogs coats looking good and manageable, and I really do enjoy my job. Sadly though my small business is being seriously impacted by so many last minute cancellations. I understand circumstances change from time to time and occasionally these things can't be helped so I never charge a late cancellation fee...Unfortunately my business doesn't run itself, I have lots of overheads. Starting from my training and setting up the salon, the investment was thousands, not hundreds but thousands....Then I have to regularly buy stock, shampoos, scissors, clippers and blades etc. Blades and scissors need sent away for regular sharpening and all the equipment needs maintaining and replacing from time to time. I have to keep a constant supply of hot water to the grooming room and the blaster driers don't run themselves, my electricity bill is astronomical. When dogs don't turn up the electric metre is still running! I then have to pay insurance, the accountant and the tax man, that's before I pay myself. Also it's a very physically demanding job and I need regular physio myself to keep my body working...that costs far more an hour than I charge....The price for grooming a dog in Stranraer is generally £10 - £15 cheaper than the average price anywhere else in the country so that already makes things tougher. When I'm left with a 2 hr appointment I'm unable to fill at the last minute it has a bigger impact on my business than you can imagine....I really do understand things come up but the longer notice you can give the better, or if you can find another way to keep the appointment even better still...I really do value every customer and try to book everyone in as soon as possible and it's hugely appreciated when appointments are kept.

Wowser, how much did 11 week old Jodie the Toy Poodle puppy coming for her first groom make my day?! A lot.....A great age for her first visit, she took it all in her stride, getting used to bath and the driers and standing on the table...she loved being pampered and getting all 'poodled' up! 💕

The gorgeous Emma visits Springfern regularly but twice a year Huskies shed their coat to make room for a new undercoat to grow. This can take around 3 weeks and the amount of hair is unbelievable! A pic of me starting to blow the coat out with the blaster drier, then a wee video clip in the comments as it wouldn't let me include a video in the post! and a pic of the final result afterwards, once she has had a bath and been thoroughly groomed....lots of work, but very satisfying and a happy, comfortable dog in the end....💕

On the grounds of hygiene and Health and Safety, I'm going to have to politely ask all customers to make sure that dogs are kept on leads from your car to the salon. Working from home gives me a peaceful and settled space to groom your dogs but please be respectful that this is my home and that of my own dogs and they understandably get distressed when they see strange dogs running around the lawn. If small dogs can be carried from the car to the salon safely that would be much appreciated too...Many thanks, Niall
