IT'S TIME!
Our final egg auction starts now!
It will finish at 9:00 pm tonight, the 21st May.

We have 32 eggs for sale this time and the starting price is a mere £40 including postage.
Please place your bids in the comments section below and as we are not exporting please only bid if you are in the UK.
Any late bids after 9:00pm will be inapplicable. So far our internet connection has behaved but please be aware that it can at times be very slow and obviously out of my control so I can only apologise if there is a last minute blip, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it runs smoothly when necessary.
Assuming payment is made promptly by the winning bidder the eggs will be posted tomorrow afternoon by special delivery so the buyer can receive them quickly.
The eggs are a bit of a mix so I would advise that more than one incubator is used to produce the best hatch rate possible and a little experience would be beneficial but I will do my best to help if anyone feels they are unsure about incubator settings etc.

So the eggs we have for auction are:

7 Reeves
5 True Silvers
5 Lady Amherst's
2 Goldens
3 Mikados
4 White Crested Kalij
3 Sonnerat's Junglefowl
2 Temminck's Tragopans
1 Koklass

Best of luck to the bidders.

Tomorrow, the 21st of May, will be our last egg auction. I shall post the details just as soon as the eggs have been collected and I know what we have available . This will probably be around midday and the auction will finish at 9 pm.
In the meantime here are a couple of photos of one of our Lady Amherst's c**k Pheasants:

We've decided our final egg auction this year will be on:
TUESDAY the 21ST of MAY.
We will have no more eggs for sale after that day so if you're keen to buy them please check out our auction. It will be a "MEGA MIX" of eggs so using more than one incubator would be ideal to get the best hatch rate possible.

On a related note I thought I'd show you what our brooder boxes are like. We use these for the first couple of weeks or so of the chicks lives before they are put into small indoor pens. As you can tell by the colour of the photo, we use infra red heat lamps. For the first day or two there is rubber matting in the box to help give the chicks a really good grip so they can practise standing and walking without injury. I do tend to keep a small section of the box with just rough towels so I can scatter the chick crumb to encourage them to eat quickly and they love their cooked egg yolk which they seem to be naturally drawn to. I also dip each chicks beak into their water (with added bird tonic) when I first take them from the hatcher and put them into the brooder so I am sure they get a small drink to start them off well.

Hi to all our lovely followers.
Today we are holding the 2nd of our 3 auctions this year.
We have a selection of 24 eggs this time and the starting price will be £35 including postage. Please only bid if you are in the UK as we are not exporting.

The 24 eggs are as follows:
6 True Silvers
6 Swinhoes
6 White Crested Kalij
6 Sonnerat's Junglefowl
I have chosen these eggs as they are all incubated at a similar humidity to simplify the incubation for the buyer. We would incubate them at a temperature of 37.7 °C and an RH of around 38 - 45% until close to hatching when humidity should be increased further.

You may have an idea of how this is going to work now but here are the instructions anyway:
Please bid by adding your amount to the comments below this post and in whole pounds only.
Bidding can commence as soon as this post is live and will finish at 9:00pm. Any bids after this time will not be counted.
Please be aware that our internet connection is not great and I can only go by bids when I see them so I'll have to cross my fingers and hope the connection behaves. I can only apologise if it doesn't. Once the auction has concluded I will pm the winner with our bank details and, assuming payment is made promptly, the eggs will be posted the following afternoon.

Now time to start! Best of luck to any bidders!

A wee tip when rearing ornamental pheasant chicks (and quite likely any other chicks too):
Take care to check them thoroughly every day when very young. Take them out their brooder box and check if their bottoms are clean. Their digestive systems are only just starting to work to digest "proper" food and can find it difficult to begin with. Sometimes around day two or three an occasional chick might need it's bottom cleaned. Do this gently with cotton wool and warm sterile water. Once clean clabber it with Sudocrem, covering the chicks belly button too. The cream is an excellent soothing antiseptic barrier cream which has the added bonus that it's not tasty for the other chicks. This will stop any infections before they start keeping your chicks in tip top condition.

We will be holding another egg auction on Tuesday, that'll be the 14th May. Like the last time it will start as soon as I know what eggs we have available on that day (probably around midday) and finish at 9:00 pm. The eggs will be posted the following afternoon as long as payment has been made by bank transfer beforehand. The eggs will be different species from the auction we had last week but should all be able to be incubated together as they are likely to need a similar humidity setting. More details will be given on the day of the auction so please check us out on Tuesday. We are not doing this all the time but need to make some time for our daughter and new wee granddaughter due soon and would rather our fb followers got the opportunity to hatch our eggs than them going to waste. If we can make a little bit of money for baby stuff into the bargain that's an added bonus.

EGG AUCTION STARTS NOW!
Finishes at 9pm tonight 6th May

We have the following 20 eggs to auction today. They are being sold in one lot and the starting price which includes postage is £30.

The eggs are:
7 Reeves
3 Red Goldens
2 Yellow Goldens
4 Lady Amherst's
4 Elliots

Please bid by adding your amount in the comments.
It should be in whole pounds.
Bid only if you live in the UK as we are not exporting.
Any bids after 9:00pm will be inapplicable and not counted. Please be aware that our internet connection is not great so if there is a problem at the last minute I can only apologise. I would therefore advise not to wait until the last few seconds to bid - just in case. Eggs will be posted tomorrow assuming payment has been made by bank transfer beforehand. I will send our bank details to the winning bidder once the auction has concluded.

Incubation of your eggs:
If you wish to incubate all your eggs in one incubator and do not have a separate hatcher the eggs should be set so they are all hatching roughly together. As the above eggs do not all have the same gestation period the Reeves and Elliots should be set first followed by the Lady Amherst's two days later and a day after that the Goldens (Red & Yellow) should be added to the incubator. We set all of the species eggs in this auction at a similar humidity setting so that should simplify things for the buyer. We would set them at a temperature of 37.7 degree Celsius and around 27 - 32% relative humidity (RH). The reason for the vague humidity is due to hygrometers generally only being accurate to within about 5% but I would say 28 - 30% is ideal. The humidity should be raised for the last two - three days of incubation. This is important especially once the eggs have pipped the shell (broken a small hole in it) as the membrane inside will rapidly dry out without a high humidity (I would suggest 65 - 75%). If the membrane dries the emerging chick will become stuck and unable to hatch.

Now time to get on with the auction.
Good Luck!!!

02/05/2024

On Monday the 6th May we will be auctioning some eggs. This was a success last year so hopefully our internet connection will behave itself once again this time around. If things go smoothly we intend this year to sell a few "lots" this month. This is mainly due to my elder daughter expecting our first grandchild in early June so we are trying to create enough time for ourselves to have some special family time and be ready to head down to Liverpool at a moments notice, which is far from easy with loads of full incubators and chicks hatching left, right and centre.
Anyway, as soon as I know what eggs we have on Monday I shall post on here what will be in the auction and a starting price. As soon as that information is online the bidding can start. The auction will finish at 9pm and I will post the eggs to the winner the following afternoon as long as payment can be made by bank transfer by the Tuesday morning (7th May).

Already there are wee shoots popping up from the ground here and there and buds on the trees and shrubs filling out readying themselves for the longer and brighter days ahead. It's a lovely reminder of the new opportunity, every new year brings, to be the best we can be.
Cheers everyone! Here's to a fresh and invigorating start to 2024.

24/12/2023

To all our customers we would like you to know you are very much appreciated, thank you to you all.
Best wishes to you, and to everyone interested in the conservation of pheasants and wildlife in general, for the happiest of Christmases and lots of love and reasons for cheer in the New Year.
As they say here in Scotland (although not meaning it quite literally these days): "Lang may yer lum reek!"

Gripe of the day:
What makes a company decide it's a good idea to add unnecessary grooves or bumps to something that has to be kept clean but gets dirty easily? Do they think someone will look at drinkers and think, "well they both look good but that one has a fancy wee pattern on the handle so I'll buy it"?

If you want something easy to wash get the plain one.

This handsome boy is another of our adults but we have youngsters hatched this year for sale for £90 a pair.
He is a Sonnerat's Junglefowl c**k aka Grey Junglefowl and one of the tougher pheasant species. He is the closest thing to poultry that we own. The Red Junglefowl is the ancestor of the domestic chicken.
The Sonnerat is well known among fly fishers as the hackles (the feathers around the neck) are prized for being attractive to the fish. I think they they are rather fetching too.

We still have a few Mikado Pheasants from this year's hatch available. They are £100 a pair.
The Mikados tend to be both quiet in nature and also noise wise. Although the c**ks are predominantly black they have a beautiful bluish sheen which contrasts gorgeously with the white markings and red face.

Please note: We don't sell Chaffinches, they just pop in for the peanuts.

This stunning boy is one of our Lady Amherst's Pheasants. These are always a favourite with visitors and it's easy to see why.
They are much tougher birds than they look and will easily get through the winter without lots of extra protection. Most Lady Amherst c**ks will spend a huge amount of time displaying to their mates as soon as the days start to lengthen. This is lovely to see but do include at least a few hiding places and plenty of roosts for the hens to give them some peace when they need it.

One of our Elliot Pheasant c**ks at Allandoo Pheasantry.
These are an easy pheasant to care for. They are not as destructive as some pheasant species, they eat a good varied diet without being particularly fussy and will not need any extra heat in the winter months. They are also reasonably easy to breed and rear so a good choice for someone looking for something a little different but wary of trying one of the rarer and trickier species.

Isn't he such a wee sweetie? The Koklass really are little darlings (well not necessarily to each other all the time but to us they are). They tend to be very quiet natured wee birds quite often coming up to stand right next to us so that they are way too easy to trip over but absolutely adorable. They do appreciate a large pen preferably with a good supply of greenery and don't do too well with stress so they should be watched with great care after any moves or changes etc. That aside, they are perfectly capable of withstanding our winters without extra heat and are wonderful birds to keep.

The pheasant hens may have more muted colours than the c**ks but many of them still have beautifully intricate markings and variations in their plumage. This wee lass is a Swinhoe hen. The Swinhoes are very easy to care for and don't even destroy every plant in their aviary. A big bonus in the pheasant world!

Hi friends & followers.
If there are any UK bird couriers, or even anyone thinking of starting such a business, I'd love to hear from you. Reliable couriers always seem to be in very short supply and as we are not particularly keen of driving all over the country ourselves, and really don't have the time, we often have birds needing collected and delivered for us.
If you think you may know someone interested please share this post. Thanks.

Birds we have available at the moment:

Reeves Pheasants @ £30 each
1 pair Yellow Golden Pheasants @ £60
1 pair True Silver Pheasants @ £60
1 pair White Crested Kalij Pheasants @ £70 (c**k is 5 years old)
1 pair Swinhoe Pheasants @ £80

14/06/2023

If anyone prefers buying adult birds rather than youngsters this will be the time to persuade us to sell them to you as we are trying to make space for this year's youngsters going outside.

It's that time of year again and we will be starting the leg ringing any day. That sounds awful, I should maybe clarify, for those of you new to bird keeping, that we will be putting our numbered, closed, aluminium, leg rings on the young bird's legs so they can be recognised forever more. All totally painless.

Anyway we definitely have a couple of pairs of Sonnerat's Junglefowl available now, a pair of Koklass, a pair of Yellow Goldens and a pair of Swinhoes. There are others too but we've not made any final decisions yet so feel free to get in touch if there's something you are interested in.
Oh and here are a few photos as I've not put anything up for a while.

The big day is about to arrive. No, I'm not talking about the coronation.
We've decided this year for the first time we'll sell a small number of eggs. This will be on Monday the 8th of May. It will be by auction on here, especially for our facebook followers. We will be selling only eggs we have plenty of ourselves this year. They will be from parents that have given us great fertility and whose eggs have been hatching well for us so far.
If you wish to bid for eggs all you'll need to do is comment on the post that we'll have on Monday. I'll add the details to the post on the day so keep your eyes peeled and be ready to bid.

Don't forget:
Monday the 8th May - The Allandoo Pheasantry Egg Auction!

Thankfully bird flu has left the Stranraer area and we have the green light to sell our birds again. With the breeding season starting, to say this is a relief is a massive understatement. We are also extremely happy the dreaded illness stayed clear of our own birds.
Best of luck to all the bird breeders out there with their eggs and chicks this year.

A wee appeal from me today:
I'm hoping to find someone looking for Golden Pheasants. Ideally close to the Scottish border on the east coast where I have a lovely customer looking for a good home for her four birds. Our friend has recently lost her husband and suffers with bad arthritis herself so is finding it difficult to look after her birds without help. She is desperate to find someone who has plenty of time to give to her much loved Goldens. She has two c**ks, one of which has a dodgy leg, and two hens and really wants them all to stay together.
If anyone thinks they could be the adoptive parents for her babies please get in touch, I don't think she'll be wanting much for them just someone who can take great care of them.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The end of the year has arrived again and a new one is about to begin.
As the days stretch, the birds sing their hearts out and new growth is everywhere around us it never fails to bring fresh hope of possibilities and opportunity.
Whatever moans and groans we have and sometimes problems, that can feel insurmountable in the moment, seeing and feeling what nature achieves every day can restore serenity, well-being and our love of the world. With this in mind I am thankful for all those who bring to light what can be done to save our planet and every wonder it contains and who fights for our future generations right to enjoy the world we ourselves inhabit.
Of course, as always, I also want to thank all our brilliant, lovely and generous customers who have helped us through another year of doing a job we love.
Happy new year to you all!

It's not been an easy year for many of my bird breeder friends between weather problems, high costs and bird flu putting obstacles in the way, it's proven a wee bit tricky to say the least.
From Allandoo Pheasantry we wish all our customers, friends and viewers, the very best of luck to get through the problems and have a lovely Christmas and a wonderful 2023. Spring is just around the corner with the promise of lots of lovely wee hatchlings to brighten our days.
