**IMPORTANT INFORMATION **

On the 1st of September 2023 the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons provided new guidelines to vets across the country called the ‘Under Care’ guidance.

It means that for certain types of medication (called POM-V) we are legally required to examine your pet before we can prescribe. POM-V medications tend to be things like antibiotics, antifungals, pain killers, heart and hormone medications, but also include some types of flea and worming medication you may already be used to giving your pet. The changes are intended to improve safety and patient care.

If your pet is already on a medication for a health condition we will ask you to come in for a check-up with a vet if we have not seen you recently or if we need to change something such as the strength or frequency of medication. This allows us to monitor your pets condition in line with the regulations to improve patient safety. These check-ups must be at a minimum every 6 months but may be more frequent for certain medications.

For certain types of flea and worming a vet will be required to see your pet before we can prescribe if we have not seen your pet before or recently. For flea and worm, check-ups must be at a minimum every 12 months.

In many circumstances we can include these examinations with other trips to the vet like vaccinations or consultations where no additional fees will apply. However, there may be times when we charge a ‘prescription review’ to examine your pet. We will try our best to be fair and let you know when charges will apply. Members of our health care plan will have 6 monthly prescription reviews included in their plans.

Our Vets, Nurses and Reception teams are doing their very best to balance complying with the changes, the increased workload it requires and providing compassionate and safe care for your animals. We thank you for your understanding while we navigate the changes.
