Impromptu phone consultation!
On the phone this afternoon to a certain supermarket chain mobile phone service, trying to fettle my bill, had an interesting conversation with the charming, talkative young woman on the other end who owns a German Shepherd, a poodle, and a new Shar Pei... the poodle, or course, is the boss!
A very active, intelligent, independent and quite dominant breed, Poodles like to be in charge. One might think the GSD would be that way? No - GSDs like to think things are their own idea, but they can work together. The Shar Pei is still a puppy. But Madame la Poodle... she is the boss! Can go too far though. Come down hard on a poodle and they can snap back, or become resentful.
POSITIVE re-enforcement in a carefully controlled environment can teach her the new dog is a GOOD thing that brings rewards.

We will be in Weston-super-Mare on Friday for the latest dog DNA database event.

The scheme allows dog owners to buy a DNA testing kit, swab their dogs and have their pets’ profiles recorded on the DNA Protected national database knowing we support the initiative both for crime prevention and to help reunite stolen dogs with their owners. The dogs don't need to be brought to the event, and in fact it is often easier to do the swab at home.

Should the unthinkable happen and your beloved dog be stolen, your pet's DNA will be on a national database to help officers identify the rightful owner. The kits also come with house stickers and collar tags to act as a deterrent to would-be thieves.

The kits are available at a discounted price of £59.99 at the event.

We will be at Weston Town Hall on Friday 19 August from 10am to 2pm.

My baby boy (aged 5?). I love both my dogs, but this little lad decided long ago his place is at my heel. So when I left him sleeping peacefully in the study and snuck downstairs (not on purpose - I thought he was awake!), there was a sudden scrabble of paws on floorboards then he launched himself down the stairs. A delighted 'Here you are!!' look beamed across his face, and he leapt up beside me, shuffled a bit closer, and cuddled up for comfort. Couldn't be better 🥰
