WHCC-The Watch House Cruising Club Appreciation Page Welcome to the WHCC Watch House was the fifth club to join the Federation of Bridgewater Cruising Clubs.

The Watch House Cruising Club, is on the towpath side of the Bridgewater Canal between Dane Road bridge and Edge Lane bridge in Stretford, Greater Manchester, it was founded in 1964 and has grown in size over the years. It operates a full cruising programme throughout the year with many weekend cruises and attendance at various rallies during the season. When not out cruising, the clubrooms and ba

r are open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings 19.30-23.30 as well as Sunday afternoons 12.00-19.00 to all passing boaters. The Watch House is the oldest building in Stretford, also the oldest on the canal and was, in fact, here before the canal was built. In those days it was a farm building but since then it has had a chequered history as stables for canal horses, as a coffin store, saddle manufacturing, cottages and now our club premises. Gradually the members have improved the building and upgraded the facilities. The major improvments undertaken over the past few years have been the extension into the old stable block, which has been turned into a concert room with a stage and a refit to the kitchen area. Apart from the bar, the services available are toilets, water, Elsan disposal, overnight moorings and a fund of help and advice from our many long serving members. For those of you who knew him, Ged's wake will be held at the clubhouse on Saturday 25th January from 4 til 6pm. On his request there is to be no funeral just the wake. RIP Ged. Thank you for all you did for the club during your years here.

Annie has asked me to let you know that Ged passed away suddenly yesterday evening. Details of any arrangements will be given as known. RIP Ged. You will be missed. Our thoughts are with Annie and family at this time.

Remember, remember.... no not yet! It's Halloween first. Party at Watch House this Saturday 26th October from 5 onwards with games for the children and food/ entertainment later on.
Sunday 27th October, after the clocks have gone back, a visit from Sale CC for lunch and the afternoon.
