Well-being Wednesday: How to Mark World Book Day Tomorrow 📚

Tomorrow, 6th March, we celebrate World Book Day, a fantastic reminder of the joy and power of reading. This year’s theme is "Read Your Way" encouraging everyone to explore books that inspire, comfort, and excite them — whether it’s a classic novel, a graphic novel, poetry, or even an audiobook.

And remember — World Book Day isn’t just for kids! It’s for everyone. Reading is a brilliant way to relax, spark creativity, broaden your knowledge and boost your well-being.

Why not mark the day by:

Sharing what you’re reading — share what you’re currently reading in the comments or start a conversation with colleagues about a book you’ve enjoyed recently.

Book swap at work — bring in a book you’ve loved and let someone else give it a go.

Reading together — whether it’s with your family or friends take time to unwind with a good book.

Creating a reading list — gather recommendations from those around you and discover something new.

Let’s celebrate the magic of books — at home, at work, and everywhere in between.

What book will you be diving into this World Book Day? We’d love to hear! 📖

Well-being Wednesday: Eye Health 👁️

We’ve recently looked into the HSE guidelines around eye tests, and we want to share some important information with our support worker team.

According to the HSE, support workers do not qualify for company-funded eye tests. This is because the criteria focus on those who:

1) Use display screen equipment (DSE) as a *significant* part of their daily work.

2) Regularly need to use screens for *extended periods* without breaks.

Since these don’t typically apply to support worker roles, the guidelines do not require employers to provide free eye tests in this case.

(The full guidelines can be found here: https://www.hse.gov.uk/msd/dse/eye-tests.htm )

However, that doesn’t mean your eye health isn’t important! Here’s how you can still access support:

Check if you qualify for a free NHS eye test — certain groups, like those on certain benefits or with specific health conditions, may be eligible. Full details can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/opticians/free-nhs-eye-tests-and-optical-vouchers/

Explore discounts for carers — for example Discounts for Carers (free to register) currently offers a Vision Express voucher for a first eye test. You can access this offer here: https://discountsforcarers.com/offer?offer=opticians-glasses-sunglasses-contact-lenses-17595&listingPosition=2&st=listing&op=2&fp=1&ps=30&so=default

Signs you may need an eye test:

- Frequent headaches
- Blurred or double vision
- Struggling to see clearly at night
- Squinting or straining your eyes
- Sudden changes in vision

How often should you have an eye test?

Every 2 years as a general rule.

Annually if you have existing eye conditions, diabetes, or are over a certain age — your optometrist will advise.

Your vision matters — keeping on top of eye health helps you feel your best. If you have any questions or need support, please reach out!
