Write a caption... With everything going on at the moment we want to help keep dogs in homes.
Our latest scheme that we are about to launch, thanks to a specific grant we have received, is to try to help genuine people who want to keep their XLs but are struggling financially.
We want to help people that would otherwise be forced to make hard decisions about their dogs or feel forced to abandon.
Due to the grant agreements at this time we can only offer this to residents within DARTFORD BOROUGH and they must be on the benefits listed on the poster, and will be asked to provide evidence. Your dog must meet the XL Billy standards as outlined on the DEFRA Website.
Neuters will take place at the vet of our choice within Dartford and you will need to be able to get the dog there yourself, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
We do have a limited budget but should have enough to do forty or so genuine cases.
Anyone in need within the catchment area that meets requirements please contact us via email only.
Please note along with the help of a behaviourist we are also organising muzzle training sessions within the same area.
We wish we could roll it out further and do more but it’s all we can do at the moment.

I wanted to put a post out regarding the banning of the XL Bully. As you know I am passionate about bull breeds and work with many people and charities helping dogs with behavioural issues. My main focus has always been and will remain to assess, safeguard and work positively to help anyone who has a dog with behavioural needs. I will never discriminate against any body or any dog and work with those dogs that others forget time after time. I will continue to be a voice. All of my training is positive reinforcement based and is about looking at why a behaviour has developed. Along with my other fellow trainers I will also be offering free advice regarding muzzle training and how the law will impact you and your dog. My training classes have always been and will remain to include every breed. Even if the ban goes through! I’m a firm believer that it’s deed not breed and that the popularity of prong collars and old style training methods are accountable for the position we are now in. Information regarding training classes will follow.

Lots of people follow these dog trainers that promise to get their dog under control by placing a prong collar on their dog and forcing that dog into submission. Stop 🛑 think about how you would feel if someone did that to you. It’s called domestic violence- its called coercive behaviour! And as humans we are taught that that behaviour is wrong. So why do some dog trainers use these tactics. It’s because they don’t know how to earn the love and respect from your dog - they don’t put the work in to help change the process. They don’t know how! Make a change. Set your dog up for success the positive way.

If we go back to 5 months ago Haze was suffering with generalised anxiety. He was scared by open spaces and the first time I took him up to the heath he was literally hyperventilating. So we stopped and we watched and we waited. We went to different locations for short periods or time and moved around. And then I started to introduce dogs. Both boys and girls. And now look at him go with his friends, foxy, jonsey and pickles.

I am a positive reinforcement trainer!
16/02/2023

I am a positive reinforcement trainer!

The dog training industry, never short of drama at the best of times, is currently in an even greater state of turmoil than usual. There are calls from some quarters to ditch the positive reinforcement (R+) label because it is seen as creating division with trainers who choose to use aversive training techniques and because (they say) the public neither care, nor understand, what that label means.

But...I 𝘥𝘰 want a way to clearly communicate how I train. I 𝘥𝘰 want to be clearly differentiated from trainers who will use forceful techniques on your dog. And I 𝘥𝘰 want to give people a clear way to understand what I will, and will not, do when I'm working with them & their dog. And I think much of the public 𝘥𝘰 care (& if they don’t understand what it means it’s our job to teach them).

So I won't be ditching a label which tells people that...

• I will use the kindest methods and equipment I possibly can to teach your dog
• I will use the absolute minimum force I can when teaching your dog. For example, I may physically move your dog using the lead if I need to get them out of a situation they can't cope with but I will never use the deliberate application of force to punish them
• I will seek to build behaviour, not suppress it
• I will seek to address the root cause of problems; not just the symptoms
• I will set your dog up to make good choices which I will then reinforce
• I will not set your dog up to fail in order to punish them
• I will never hurt, startle or scare your dog and I'll never ask you to do that either

I'm happy to use a label which says that I will always do my very best to train with the minimum force possible and the maximum kindness & empathy. I’m happy to use a label which tells you I won’t hurt your dog. I use it, not to drag down others, but to communicate what 𝘐 am about.

When we’re told it’s divisive to describe our work in terms of our ethics and many of our industry’s professional bodies stay silent it can make it daunting to stick your head above the parapet. But those of us who believe that taking a kind, constructive approach to training is important should never feel apologetic for using a label which communicates that.

So yesterday I witnessed 6 dogs being walked on prong collars! A couple of German Shepherds, a couple of bully xls a mini staff oh and a Frenchie! So today I’m the voice of your dog! Stop! Owners it’s not your fault you are trusting these trainers to tell you, you aren’t doing damage but from what you are doing your dog is more likely to bite….. more likely to have nerve damage and at some point they will lose respect for you. Over the next few weeks I’m going to show you the damage prongs can do and show you how to train without

Top tip - don’t chose a trainer who uses prong collars. Firstly it’s barbaric and yes it does cause pain and nerve damage (they will tell you it doesn’t) secondly if you are a prong collar trainer and reading this you are lazy!
Learn something!
You don’t need to use a technique that make you hurt the animal!!!!
So people chose a force free trainer- yes it will take longer
But you will change your dogs life for the better. It’s all about helping the dog to make the right choice with out feeling pain.

More and more doggie daycares are opening there doors or should I say fields with shelter!
So while as an owner this sound great- your dog going off to play for 5 hours + a day and being able to rest under the shelter when they want. The reality is something different.
Not all dogs are suited to this environment, many find it hard to switch off when there is constant play happening.
This causes over stimulating behaviour and has shown down the line to cause reactivity in dogs.
The other issue is that they see a dog and only know how to play. So you take your dog to the park or out for a walk and you see another dog and all your dog wants to do is play play play. So please think carefully before sending your dogs off for the day.

I’m out in one of my favourite London parks - waiting for a client- and I’m watching everyone with their dogs.. how many people know what there dog is actually doing.
One dog was sat under a tree for a good five minutes before the owner realised he wasn’t on the walk with him. 🤦‍♀️
It’s great to socialise with other people and catch up on your phone 🙉 but keep an eye on where your dog is wandering and what it’s eating

It was a busy Christmas and new year- My parents stayed with their dogs, so we multipled 2-4. And because the children were excited I put the gang in there safe space. It allowed them to be able to relax and I didn’t have to worry about the children invading their space.
Many people have spoken to me about there dogs going over threshold during this time as they had frequent visitors. There dogs have nips, barked, growled or chased off. In order to create their own spaces back! Create a safe space = happy dogs = happy owners 🥰

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and looking forward to working with your dogs next year.

We will never use a prong collar, slip lead, choke chain or ecollar on your dog. We never have and we never will.

We will never stop speaking out against the use of these tools.

If the dog trainer or behaviour consultant can't say they won't either, please use someone else.

EDIT - any comments promoting, endorsing or justifying the use of any of these tools will be deleted. This isn't a discussion forum.

Spending time with this rescue beauty. I’m only 5ft 3 and I don’t need to use any training techniques that aren’t positive based. He walks like a dream. Calling out all those trainers using prong collars. Telling owners it doesn’t hurt. Or this type of prong is ok. It’s never ok!
