Our behaviourists are often asked if dominance is the reason that a dog is behaving aggressively. Science has shown that dogs show aggression for all sorts of reasons but the evidence that dominance is the answer just does not stack up. One of the problems with the 'dominance' label is that it is often associated with punitive training practises, which risk causing emotional and sometimes physical harm to the dog.
