Waterlane Equine Vets

Waterlane Equine Vets Equine veterinary practice dedicated to providing personal & professional veterinary care to horses
(26)

Founded by Dr Tim Watson BVM&S PhD MRCVS, a hugely experienced and highly regarded horse vet who has spent over 20 years in equine practice. Waterlane Equine Vets offers a full 24/7 service, with no call-out fee for pre-booked appointments (within 20 miles) and the latest diagnostic equipment. Tim is an accredited FEI vet and has a special interest in lameness, back problems and poor performance.

Holly Williams BVSc MRCVS also joined the practice in April 2015 bringing with her a wealth of experience in equine practice. Holly graduated from Liverpool University in 2002 and did a year of mixed practice before concentrating solely on horses. She has a certificate in general equine practice although her main interests are surgery, anaesthesia and stud work. The practice is experienced in all types of stud work, including AI with chilled and frozen semen. Laura Swinnerton also joined the practice in February 2015 and manages the office on a daily basis. She relocated back to Gloucestershire from her native Scotland, having previously studied in Gloucestershire graduating from Hartpury College in 2005 with a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science. Laura previously worked as an Underwriter for an equine insurance broker so has plenty of experience in dealing with claims! Her free time is spent competing her event horse, Molly, at Advanced / 2* level. Please call the office on 01452 770268 should you wish to register or discuss any other aspect of the work we do.

Last week, David and Jonathan attended the Casualty Management Seminar at Aintree racecourse. Every year the vets have to do a set amount of 'Continuing Professional
Development' to keep up to date with new techniques and treatments.
Part of their day involved a session with the team from the British Animal Rescue and Trauma Care Association who also work closely with the fire service. They were shown how to free trapped horses from a variety of scenarios including horse boxes. Life size articulated dummies (like pictured) are used in these sessions to set the scene and practice different ways of using the strops to move the horse.
You never know when these skills will be required so refreshers are always needed!

Shoutout to our incredible support staff at Waterlane Equine Vets!

They are the backbone of our practice, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Booking numerous daily appointment requests and being the calming voice on the phone when clients are worried about their horses, this is just the tip of the iceberg for what they do within our practice.

They receive medication requests, ensure those requests are signed off by a vet, and then dispense them. They will look after insurance claims on behalf of our clients, forward lab results to the attending vets promptly, keep our supplies stocked, all whilst constantly keep an eye on the vets' diaries, these are just a few of their many tasks they do tactfully and efficiently.

Verity’s and Debbie’s tireless efforts behind the scenes keep the vets doing what they do best! 💙👏 "

Here at Waterlane Equine Vets, we understand how important it is to give our clients consistency by trying to make sure the same vet attends your horses when needed.

Building a great working relationship between both vet and client is key to ensuring our visits are the most beneficial they can be for several reasons:

1. **Consistent Care**: Your vet knows your horse's medical history, allowing for more accurate and personalised treatment.

2. **Trust and Comfort**: Building a bond with your vet ensures your horse (and you!) feels more comfortable during visits.

3. **Early Detection**: Familiarity with your horse's normal behaviour and condition helps in spotting any health issues early.

And if your normal attending vet isn’t available, rest assured many discussions will be had at our HQ to ensure we provide continuity of care for the best outcome.
