Just a little festive reminder that medication orders need to be with us within the next couple of days. With the Christmas demands on the Royal Mail and ourselves closing for routine work for the Christmas break. We just thought it best for a reminder, as we donโt want you to run out. ๐๐

We never fail to be moved by inspirational cases, by the strength of horses and the devotion and commitment of their owners.
Lenny, a seven year old New Forest gelding came down with severe acute laminitis last summer, never having had any previous episodes. It was so bad that both his pedal bones were severely rotated as can be seen in the X-rays.
There were several occasions during the first three months where we were unsure whether he would make it, as he went through some bad periods pain wise.
We are delighted that Lenny is back in full work following endless months of nursing by his owners, backed up by a dedicated farrier. It is however a stark reminder of how serious a disease laminitis can be and how it can happen so suddenly and severely.

*Wound Wednesday*
The owner of a lovely 2 year old filly phoned the practice reporting a field injury. Lydia went to see her and with little skin available to stitch the wound, she opted for secondary intention healing.
Secondary intention healing means a wound will be left open to heal rather than being stitched, and it will fill in and close down naturally.
To enable thus, there is a need for correct bandaging and dressings, box rest, some topical medications, antibiotics if required and pain relief. As the images show, a healthy granulation bed has formed. The first and third images are just five weeks apart ๐๐ป๐๐ป
