πŸ’™πŸ’™ TONY UPDATE 🩡🩡

Lord Tony πŸ‘‘πŸ˜Έ as you all know Tony is due to have an eye operation on the 2nd September to have his eye lense removed, and also the capsule , wich is why he wouldn't be able to have a new lense inserted to restore his normal sight :(
I asked the The vet specialist on two separate occasions, will Tony be pain free and not suffer any further after this operation, also
how will his vision be, if any, will he suffer from headasches..Will his good eye over compensate possibly putting pressure/ strain on his good eye and running the risk that the same thing to happen to his only good eye, leaving him completely blind 😒 .. Sadly FIV cats have higher inflammatory issues . Wich they have said is the likely cause of the his uveitis.
The specialist could not say he would not be pain free, and it is possible he may get headaches...and end up having his eye out after alll that :(
Whilst Tony seems happy in himself and still causing mischief πŸ˜…
I do not want to put sweet Tony in any further risk with his either eye or pain. And have opted to have his eye removed....
Obviously its not been an easy decision to make, and only want what's best for him 🐾β™₯οΈπŸ‘‘πŸ˜»

We would like to say a massive thankyou to the lovely family who we met at Barry Waterfront this afternoon. They were out for a Sunday stroll, when they noticed some adult seagulls - the parents - going frantic to try and save one of their youngsters. The youngster had spotted a sparkling 'treat' - swallowed it without realising it was a shiny fish hook, still attached to the line - which was caught by the lead weight in the crevices of the Dock wall!
The father managed to scramble and retrieve the baby, but the hook was way down its throat and already stuck. With Vets4Pets closed (Sunday) and the family on foot,we raced the poor baby to the emergency out of hours VETS in Pentyrch. This lovely dad was HERO of the day - for us, for gull but especially for his children . What a brilliant example to show them that every living creature deserves and needs us all to try our best to help them in times of need.

ELVIS has not just left the building, but the Sanctuary itself. He's been HOMED!!
Now, we need homes for his twin brothers AARON & VERNON - a bonded pair who won't be split. Plus a very specific and patient home for mummy PRISCILLA who has lost so much trust in humans.
Please send an email to [email protected]

If you sign up it pops up on your computer/laptop/phone and asks if you want to give a donation. you click yes and that is it. 2 days ago I spent about Β£30 on eBay and it just confirmed that a 29p donation has been added to the SHUA account. If lots of members of the Community Chat page signed up it could be a great boost to SHUA. So please follow the link and sign up.

"MABEL" elderly neutered male cat found lost around Holten Rd in May of this year. Taken in and vet checked - no chip. (Also mis sexed) so the finder kindly gave him a home. He disappeared sometime in June but turned up several streets away and took up residence in a dilapidated shed and begged for food scraps. He will be going back to his rescuer BUT we would love to know if anyone can id him or knows any more history - pre May of this year?

When you have contacted us regarding a stray we have done our utmost to help but sadly they turned into cases that were unhomable wether it be medical or behaviour issues that's why we had to go from a rescue to a sanctuary. We are desperate to raise funds to carry on looking after these guys (volume on). Here's some sitting in the garden allowed to πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸΎπŸˆβ€β¬›

πŸ’™ TONY πŸ’™

Tony snoozing his little chops off πŸ’€
Tony will have his Eye surgery on the 8th August. At the specialist here in Inverness.
They will remove his lense and eye capsule, and he should then be left with long distance vision, witch is better than full eye removal.
Uveitis is an awful painful eye condition 😒
The inflammation in his little body caused his lense to be pushed through his capsule to the front of the eye, the specialist did say that its more commonly seen in cats who are FIV like Tony , or cats with other illnesses :( but I think Tony's eye issue came from being a street cat ( before he was rescued ) as he had a scar on his lense from probably fighting , trying to survive on the streets πŸ˜ͺπŸ’”
So I have high hopes for a successful outcome with his surgery🐾
Tails and paws crossed for the 8th 🐾✨️😺

🩷 Patti update 🩷 πŸŒˆπŸΎπŸŒˆπŸ’”πŸ˜ͺ🩷

Patti has been with Shua since her rescue and has had frequent vet visits to keep her pain under control and her as comfortable as possible.
With all the posts etc her family came forward and came to see her the delight she showed paddling and purring shows how resilient they are. It turns out that Patti is 19 and very much loved. She has been having trouble going to the toilet and had a check up on Saturday her family came yesterday and spent 3 hours with her but she suddenly declined the girls were pushing fluids etc through her but her body had lost the fight her family were with her today and she was put to sleep and taken home to be buried in the garden. Thank you all who were involved and donated to her bill.
Run free Patti over rainbow bridge 🐾🌈🐾πŸ˜ͺ🩷

Our Story

A registered Charity, SHUA is a Safe House for Unwanted Animals.

SHUA is a Cat Sanctuary to over 100 resident cats. We never allow a healthy animal to be put to sleep, hence the population currently at our sanctuary. Most of our residents are feral, stray’s or have costly health issues attached to them rendering them unable for adoption.

We operate a Charity Shop in 97 High St, Barry to help finance the Sanctuary which includes: Vet bills, food, heated pods, cleaning, maintenance, specialised medication, flea & worm treatments, Scratch post / toys, Biffa Waste disposal services - the list id endless.

We solely rely on these donations and a handful of volunteers to operate our Charity and keep the Sanctuary running.
