🐾🐕🦺 Crate training is super important for issues such as this. There is a massive stigma surrounding crate training. Many people see it as a doggy prison but this just isn’t the case at all!
✅ Crates can infact be one of the MOST positive things to add to your training toolkit because it can set you and your young dogs up for success and help them with separation!🐾😍
✅A crate is a POSITIVE and SAFE space! It’s all about self coping mechanisms 👊🏻🐶🐾
😍A crate can actually give MORE comfort to your dog as bigger spaces can just be too overwhelming! In a crate they know what to expect which builds confidence.

✅ We have been working on Snowflake having a high response and good control and impulse control in public...
🐕 We worked from quieter spaces to busier spaces to make sure we have the commands nailed when it’s quiet and then built this up in terms of challenge.
🏅Here, we are using reward based training to keep motivation high!
✅ We change direction and pace in our heel work to engage the dog if they lose focus or change our voice in tone or sound to get their attention!
👉🏼With Snowflake’s training we have had to be consistent with greeting other dogs as she would previously get manic with dog meetings and lose focus.

⭐️ CHANNELING ENERGY THE RIGHT WAY ⭐️
🐕🐾 Huxley is a very energetic flat coat retriever and didn’t know where to channel his energy…
✅ With Huxley, we had to do exercises like a nice controlled heel, retrieve exercises, recall and impulse control around distractions, to show him our expectations of him and his behaviour and how and where to channel his energy in a more constructive and healthy way than the way he was prior to training.
❌ Pre-training, Huxley would run up to any dog and get into squabbles with dogs with poor recall and chase wildlife without listening.
✅🐕He needed to switch on to listening to the handler and we got him enjoying the work, enjoying engagement and making his freedom more of a prize.
👉🏼⭐️He had to earn it through work through recall, heel and retrieve and he responded well to this 👏🏻

👉🏼Here we are working on
refining impulse control which can be an issue mainly around dogs in busy areas.
🐕🐕Because they are siblings, maintaining their attention and keeping their energy levels lower around dogs has been a difficulty as they tend to get over excited and charge up to dogs if let off together…
✅One goal has been working them up to being off lead together without ganging up on other dogs.
🐾To conquer this, here we are working on engagement, changing direction & making sure both dogs focus on me and follow & enjoy working with me.
❗️It is So important to engage throughout an entire walk. Allowing them to be dogs sniffing and greeting other dogs but inbetween calling them and doing obedience so the walk is something for us both.
✅🐕🐾Always making sure there is plenty of mental stimulation and enrichment mixed with obedience.
