Thank you to Louise and Mike for this lovely review for amazing Dog Carers Colin & Annette PetStay West Midlands-North & South Staffordshire 🐶

"We would like you to know that we had a wonderful experience with Colin and Annette. They took care of Izzy as if she was their own pet, and when things got difficult and she needed an anaesthetic and procedure for a badly infected paw, they sorted everything out, keeping us fully informed all the way. Regular daily pictures and updates left is in no doubt that Izzy was very happy with them. All in all perfect pet sitters. Thank you" - Louise and Mike

This delightful doggie duo 🐶🐶 enjoyed their recent stay with Ann & Pete, loving dog carers Petstay - Wakefield & Castleford Branch - here's what their owner had to say...

"Monty and Fizzy stayed over a week with Ann and Pete who took care of them as if they were their own. Both dogs settled in very well and Ann sent regular photos to us while we were away. It was such a relief to know that they were being looked after so well. Both Ann and Pete were so kind and gentle. We are very grateful and have booked them in again."

🐶 Christine had complete peace of mind whilst on holiday, knowing that Lily was having a lovely time with Lynne PetStay West Midlands-North & South Staffordshire 🐾🐾

"I think Lynne is amazing, I liked a few of the carer’s, but Lynne is special, Lily loves her. Lynne is calm & organised, and very helpful. She sends me lots of pics of Lily & tells me what they have done that day. It makes me feel that Lily is really safe & looked after. I can get a bit stressed when I leave Lily, my first dog, and she is a clingy dog. So Lynne makes me happy to leave her. Yes I will always have Lynne if I can." - Christine

Such a lovely review from a PetStay York, Harrogate & North Leeds customer of almost 10 years! 🤩

"What would we do without Val & Chris? It was only on the 1st and 2nd stays, nearly 10 years that I called Val & Chris to see how our boy was. Since then we know we can just leave him knowing he’s being well looked after and loved, even with his spoilt little attitude. Thank you so much Val & Chris. I definitely recommend PetStay for finding the perfect carers for your beloved babies."

Is it true that if we use cold water on heat stroke pets they will go into shock?

One of the most common things we still hear is that we can only use tepid water on a pet with heat stroke, incase they get some complications like hypothermic overshoot, peripheral vasoconstriction hindering a cooling response, and cardiogenic shock...

We have heard not to use cold water in case it causes shock... this rarely happens!

But guess what? In a recent study over 26% of dogs presented with heat stroke died, with flat faced breeds making up nearly half of heat stroke cases seen in the study.

You should:

💧Get someone to call the local veterinary practice and tell them you're going to travel down with a heat stroke patient
💧Pour, hose or if possible immerse the pet in very cold water (this should obviously be done under constant supervision, ensuring the head is fully above water and immersion should not be attempted if the animal is too large, or you are unable to do so without hurting yourself)
💧NB: If using a hose pipe, make sure it has run through until cold, as they can often contain water that is extremely hot in the tubing initially
💧Do not drape in towels and leave them in situ. Keep the cold water flowing.
💧Move to a cool, shaded area
💧Prepare to transport to vets in a cold, air conditioned car

In studies they found that:

🌅International consensus from sports medicine organisations supports treating EHS with early rapid cooling by immersing the casualty in cold water.
🌅Ice-water immersion has been shown to be highly effective in exertional heat stroke, with a zero fatality rate in large case series of younger, fit patients.
🌅Hyperthermic individuals were cooled twice as fast by Cold Water Immersion as by passive recovery.
🌅No complications occurred during the treatment of three older patients with severe heat stroke were treated with cold‐water immersion.
🌅Cold water immersion (CWI) is the preferred cooling modality in EHS guidelines and the optimal method applicable to UK Service Personnel
🌅Studies suggest using either ice-water or cold-water immersion

The best intervention is PREVENTION, but if you find yourself with an animal with heat stroke, using cold water either by pouring, hosing or ideally (if safe) immersion then this may help reduce their temperature to safe levels while you transport to a veterinary practice.

"Big thank you to Ruth at PetStay for organising Bobby and Olly’s stay with Susan for 10 days while we were on holiday. They were very well looked after and we were sent photos a few times to reassure us that they were both safe and well. We would definitely use PetStay again in the future and would highly recommend Susan as a carer." - Martine, Edinburgh

At PetStay, we believe in teaching the next generation to care for animals 🐕. That's why our MD, Carole, sponsors this gorgeous girl "Teeny Tiny" from Oldies Club for her grandson, William (7). This helps William understand that not all dogs have loving homes, especially as they get older. He loves the regular updates, and hearing what Teeny Tiny has been up to 🐾❤️

"Poppy once again stayed with Alison and Frank for the week whilst we went off on our travels. As soon as we pull up at their house Poppy is excited and knows where she’s going. She had a fun week with lots of walks and cuddles. Alison keeps us updated with messages and photos and we have no worries leaving her. In fact we call Alison her surrogate mum now! 😍 You can tell from this photo that Skye had a very relaxing stay with Claire & Barry PetStay Leeds & Ilkley Branch and it's so lovely to hear how happy Skye was too! 🤩

"Just wanted to thank you for your help with Skye’s recent stay with Claire and Barry. We are very happy and Skye seems to have had a great time! From the initial conversation with you right the way to collecting her at the end of the holiday, it all ran very smoothly . Claire sent me some photos of Skye looking relaxed and wonderful whilst we were away which was really reassuring for us. I was not looking forward to leaving Skye but it made such a difference knowing she would be looked after so well by Claire and Barry."- Emma

Are you due some warm weather this week? Then it's the pawfect time to remind yourself how you can keep your dog safe during the sunny spell 🌞🐕

More advice 👉 https://bit.ly/3UPdJwg

Image description: An infographic lists ways to keep your dog safe in warm weather. 1. Walk your dog when it's cooler; early morning or late evening. 2. Ensure your dog has plenty of water and shade all day. 3. Do the tarmac test: if you can't comfortably hold your hand on the tarmac for five seconds, then it is too hot for your dog's paws. 4. Take extra care with flat-faced, overweight, unwell and older dogs. Exercise is the most common trigger for heat-related illness so take care not to over excert your dog.
