We don’t get many Italian Spinone’s visit us in store but we were utterly spoilt with a visit from 18month old Ronnie 😍😍. His mummy purchased one of our Italian Spinone cards (he had a good look at it too!) along with some shampoo. He had lots of tummy tickles, fuss and a drink of water 💦 and loved every moment 🥰. FEEDING YOUR ALPACAS 🦙

Alpacas are becoming more popular as pets on small holdings. On the whole they have a very kind nature and some say have that ‘zen’ feeling. Their padded feet also do little damage to pasture…a huge bonus with all the rain ☔️ we’ve had over the past few months!

Alpacas are actually pseudo-ruminants as their stomach only has three compartments compared to four found in a ruminant.

Nutriment requirements for Alpacas are relatively unknown as limited research has been done. However most common feeding strategies for alpacas is grass first and foremost, followed by additional hay at times of higher energy demand such as during the winter months. Additional cereal concentrates are given during pregnancy and lactation. Cereals can sometimes cause digestive problems for Alpacas. Alternatives to using cereals include alfalfa - a quality source of fibre very low in starch.

‘ is the largest producer of alfalfa-based feeds in the UK and although they are marketed primarily for horses, they can and are used for a wide range of other animals including camelids. The Alfa-A range is based on pure alfalfa with different coatings whereas the Hi-Fi range combines alfalfa with other fibre sources such as straw and grass.

Generally, the Hi-Fi range with its lower energy values, are ideal for alpacas that maintain their weight with ease. For alpacas with increased energy requirements such as those that are kept for breeding, Alfa-A Original or Alfa-A Lite may be more appropriate. Alfalfa Pellets are also suitable for alpacas and are particularly convenient for feeding outside’

Gorgeous girlie T I L L Y 💗 making her very first visit to us today. She’s a 12week old Lab x Collie and is venturing out and about to get used to socialising with others (humans and dogs!) and adapting to new surroundings. She popped in for a new Padded Snap Lead and had some yummy .munchies treats from us ❤️

For anyone competing under FEI rules, some interesting facts regarding fly spray 🪰🪰

Q: I’ve heard Citronella is banned, so what can I use when competing under FEI rules?
A: This is a common confusion, so don’t worry, you’re not alone! There is a legal, but not competition, restriction on citronella. Under Fly Repellent legislation (Health & Safety Executive, UK), you can only sell fly repellents that contain recognised actives, such as Deet, and the legislation doesn’t cover citronella. The restriction refers to marketing the product as a fly repellent only. Citronella sprays and applications can be legally used as summer sprays and washes, and are safe and suitable for use under FEI rules.

Daisy’s very first visit to just 4months and full of life! Lots of tail wagging too! 🥰 she was fitted with an harness & collar. She also went away with some .munchies and goodies.

We stock lots of different harnesses and really welcome our customers in store to try on the different harnesses before they buy. All dogs are different shapes and sizes, we stock harnesses that meet varying needs for both dog and owner.

The Bill to ban live exports to slaughter from Great Britain has now received Royal Assent and passed into law! 🙌🎉

We can’t begin to thank you enough for your support along this journey. Whether you made a vital donation for us to continue our campaigning, or took action to highlight to MPs and the Prime Minister the need for this ban to ensure our horses, ponies and donkeys are protected. Without your support we would not be celebrating this milestone!

This is the first step towards our goal to , now we need to make sure this ban is enforced and that all horses are traceable. Keep an eye out on our future updates around horse smuggling!
