Poor little Flash visited us recently as her canine had become wobbly! This can happen through trauma, or, as in Flash's case through a disease process. Thankfully Flash's owner noticed she was eating tentatively and brought her in to be checked. We routinely x-ray all mouths to make sure we can see what's going on under the gum line, which meant we had a few other teeth to extract. Flash made a fantastic recovery and is now eating normally and pain free!
It's that time again! We are looking for a new Facebook cover photo! All you need to do is drop the picture in the comments below 👇🏻 get your friends and family to like your picture, and if it has the most likes by April the 13th, they will be our cover photo for the next month!

🦷 Dental Awareness Month 🦷
Anaesthesia free' dentals are a procedure that are starting to be offered by some paraprofessionals in the animal health industry.
Here we explain why we tend to not recommended you have your pets teeth scaled and polished without a general anaesthesic.
➡️RCVS considers that “anaesthesia-free dental procedures” for cats and dogs, are not in the best interests of the health and welfare of patients.
➡️Members of the public considering providing anaesthesia-free dental services should be aware of their responsibilities under the Veterinary Surgeons Act and also the potential dangers of causing harm to pets which could lead to actions under the Animal Welfare Act.
✅ RCVS - Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons statement:
Anaesthesia Free Dentals:
➡️Cannot allow full oral examination to be performed and vitally important diagnoses may be missed or delayed;
➡️Do not allow full and effective cleaning of the most important sub-gingival areas;
➡️May actually cause damage to the tissues surrounding the teeth;
➡️May cause discomfort, pain and/or distress to the animal;
➡️Are likely to delay clients accessing effective, proper oral care;
➡️If performed under the guise of a “Dental Treatment” could be considered misleading; unless the owners are made aware of the inadequate and potentially injurious nature of the procedure.
✅Paraprofessionals in animal care and grooming can and do play a vital role in education, teaching owners how to complete dental hygiene care at home via toothbrushing to allow oral hygiene to be maintained.
We want to help you and your pets, and provide them with the best care possible. Please get in touch with us for preventative dental advice, to have your pets teeth checked, or book in for dental treatment if necessary.
🦷 Dental Awareness Month 🦷
This ones a little scary 🥺
Did you know there is a definite association from numerous studies, that periodontal disease is linked to the development of heart disease? In fact, studies have shown that the greater the severity of periodontal disease, the greater the risk and severity of cardiac disease in dogs and cats.
Thats a worrying thought, but the bacteria build up in your pets mouth can be "absorbed" into their bloodstream, this blood passes through the heart and "infects" the heart and its valves. This can lead to acute and chronic heart disease in our pets. Something so much more serious than a bit of bad breath or wobbly teeth!
But how do we prevent this?
🦷 Regular Vet Checks
🦷 Tooth Brushing at home
🦷 Dietary Changes
🦷 Routine Descaling and Polishing of Teeth under general anaesthesia from a licensed veterinarian
Keep your eyes peeled on our page, as we have a super helpful video on how to introduce tooth brushing, and more helpful tips.
Our hearts are full looking at all the love you give back to us <3
Pain, it's not a word we want to associate with our pets. But did you know that carrying extra weight can increase the pain your pet experiences every day of their life? This is not just the expected joint associated disease you may be thinking of.
This is one of the reasons we are keen to stamp out obesity in our pets, to give them the best quality of life, the life they deserve <3
⚖️ How can we help you? If you are worried that your pet is overweight, our nurses are here to help. You will receive a bespoke plan tailored to your pet. We weigh them, measure them and plan all the dietary changes needed to implement the deficit.
These consultations are very comprehensive, we will look through food diaries, activity levels and make plans to ensure success for the future follow up visits.
Depending on the individual, these consultations may be as frequent as every other, monthly or quarterly, depending on the pet.

🐾 Obesity is the the most commonly diagnosed nutritional disorder in dogs and cats, with a prevalence of 22% and 44% in investigated populations. It is well reported in human medicine that obesity predisposes to lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes mellitus, well, this is no different for our dogs and cats.
🩺 But why do we see so much obesity in our pets? factors include neutering, inactivity, genetic predisposition as well as factors such as interaction with owners through feeding/treats.
💉As in humans, obesity causes insulin resistance and impaired glucose metabolism in cats and dogs. In cats, this may progress into feline diabetes because of long-term elevated insulin demands together with obesity-related metabolic alterations
🐾 Diabetes requires lifelong changes that include daily medication that you, the owner must inject at home, regular blood tests, diet restrictions and a weight loss regime. Complications of diabetes include glaucoma, kidney disease, liver disease, pancreatitis, muscle wastage and sadly, a shortened lifespan.
🩺 We have many tips and tricks to help your pet lose weight, first step is to get booked in for a free of charge weight clinic with our nurses.
Weight Management Tip Number One!
Our habits effect their lifestyles. Consider increasing activity time with your fur baby.
There are a few easy ways you can do this:
🐾 Longer walks (even an extra 5-10mins a day adds up)
🐾 Training – Agility training is great for their body and mind!
🐾 Walking on a harness outside with your cat
🐾 Play dates with friends
🐾 Toys to increase activity such as food dispenser balls and large cat wands
🐾 Scatter food and use slow feeders
