All About Second Chance Animal Rescue:

Hi my name is John, I am the founder member of Second Chance Animal Rescue in Crockenhill, or SCAR as it’s become known as by our volunteers & supporters. I have been caring and rescuing animals on a small scale for as long as I can remember, first at home with my parents, then from my own garden until finally in 2011 I was lucky enough to find a small plot

of land in Crockenhill. Wherever possible we do try and find a new forever home for the animals but if that is not possible then they are allowed to live out their life at the rescue. Our ethos “is live and let live”, these animals have suffered prior to reaching SCAR, so should be allowed to have a happy life enjoying freedom and enrichment that SCAR has to offer. SCAR is registered with the Charity Commission. We are always grateful of any support anyone can provide the rescue with. We always need sheds, building materials, animal bedding, and feed. If you think that you could possibly help in any way please get in touch either by telephone or email. Anyone wishing to come and see what we are doing and meet the animals is more than welcome, but this is by prior arrangement only. Many thanks for taking the time to read this and we hope to hear from you in the future. John and all at SCAR Crockenhill.

A bit different today. While we have all been baking in the sunshine it's been a bumper year for the wild flowers . The photos are some of the wild flowers around our rescue . We have never seen so many butterflies and the bees and other insects are having a bumper year so far . We do have hives tucked away and I am sure the honey will reflect a wonderful summer this year . We are so privileged to have this around us and we are enjoying the spectacular. X

We are so happy to show you the lovely cats, kittens and rats we have successfully rehomed the past couple of weeks . It makes our job so worthwhile to see them all go off to new homes to have that special person or family to love them . We do get attached to them but it makes us so happy too. We have lots of kittens nearly ready to go so we are still busy with cuddling and playing !

Look how big our baby chick's have got now ! They started life as tiny little chick's and now they have grown into chickens . As they still have a bit more growing to do we have put them in a lovely enclosure of their own . They spent the first couple of days eating every bit of greenery first and now being able to scratch about in the soil is keeping them very busy . It's so lovely to see our babies grow to adulthood doing what chickens do naturally. We are very proud of our little family x

They are very playful and how can we resist playing and cuddling all day with them . We have two more tabbies also nearly ready for rehoming who are a little characters being a bit hissy . They need lots of love and cuddles . We will be rehoming in a couple of weeks so if you are interested please email

George one of our donkeys loves a dry dust bath and has made himself a small patch he can roll about in . He looks like he is dreaming and I wonder if it's dry deserts or lush green pasture going through his mind ! We are having to buy in lots of hay this year as it's been so dry . George and Bertie are always together and often playfight first thing in the mornings when it's a bit cooler . Today looks like it's going to be cloudy all day which I am sure the animals will be very pleased to see . X

Molly is a tiny female cat of about 10 months old . She is very affectionate and loves her her scratched . She is a little bit timid so we would prefer her to be homed without young children and other animals . She has been neutered and is ready for a new home where she can be loved . If you think she is the one for you please email on
[email protected]
and we can arrange a visit . X

Two of our very elderly Merkats. We have had them for many years and came to us from a collection that had to close . In the wild they don't live for many years as too many predators but living in captivity they don't have that problem. They still stand guard as lots going on around them then cuddle up together for company . They enjoy a smorgasbord everyday and it certainly agrees with them !
