👋*A Warm Welcome to Dr Eleri Lane! *👋

We are very fortunate to be able to announce that Veterinary Surgeon Dr Eleri Lane will be joining the team at Jack's!🎉

Dr Eleri is based locally in Gower, and has decades of veterinary experience in both surgery and medicine. After many years of running a busy veterinary hospital, Dr Eleri has developed a special interest in palliative care and pain management🚑. **UPDATE: DATE CHANGE - NOW SUNDAY 14th JULY 1-3pm**Our First Year at Jack's has flown by faster than any of us could have imagined! 🎉

When we opened Jack's last Summer, we suspected that Swansea's Pet owners wanted something different - in particular more personalised care for their pets, provided by an Independent practice...

They quickly proved us right. 🥳

🐾 We have been encouraged by thousands of Pet owners who have made the decision to join Jack's over the last 12 months. We are continually overwhelmed and grateful for the incredible feedback you have given us about our high levels of veterinary care and personalised treatment 🙏 and we promise to continue it.

SO...To celebrate the start of our Second year, we are holding an Open Day on Sunday 14th July from 1-3pm! 🎈

All our welcome to call in - from those who have never heard of us and want to know more, to those whose pets know exactly where the treats are, and who to ask for them 🍬💚

There will be cake(for dogs and humans), tours of the practice, and a chance to meet/catch up with the team.👋

👋Hope you can make it!

"Such an amazing vets. Finally a vets that is not greedy and consideration is key. Kind, sensitive and very thoughtful are just a few words that come to mind. Our dog was in such a state that Jack's accommodated us on the Saturday. They made us feel at such ease the entire ordeal was stressless. We can't thank all at Jack's Vets enough for their level of care and consideration. Your doing such a fantastic job - please keep it up - you have started a revolution! Well done."
David Eldridge, May 2024

Thank you David for taking the time to leave us a Google Review - your words mean a great deal to all of us at Jack's. 💙

⭐️⭐️Pet of the week!⭐️⭐️
Cassie (age 17) 2 weeks after having 16 teeth removed, abscess treated & now pain free 💗

“Born roughly august 2007 (she was about 12-14 weeks when my brother brought her home)
My brother Leigh was pretty drunk one night over the local pub & a man called in there with this little Jack Russell and said if someone didn’t give him £50 he’s going to let her go over the mountain. My very drunk brother returned home with Cassie. She lived with Leigh & Hayley until she had 4 pups in 2010 & we were having one. We had maxi who’s now nearly 14.
Hayley had just had her second baby and had 2 dogs & now 4 pups so I took full advantage & convinced her maxi needed his mother 😄
Her & maxi have an amazing bond they are inseparable. She still cleans his face & eyes 🥰
She was fiesty in her younger days but she enjoys the more laid back life snoozing on the sofa & eating the best food.
We used to call ourselves Cassies owners but she owns us more like 😄
We love every day we get to spend with her as she’s so precious & very much loved
Because of the amazing care Cassie had from your team at Jacks we get to spend even longer with her 💗”

🗞 Many of you will have seen the news reports today regarding the CMA’s (Competition and Markets Authority) review into the pricing of veterinary services.

At Jack’s, (as many of you will know) we welcome this review. 👍🏻

🙌🏻 FACT: We are a locally owned, independent practice.

🥼FACT: Inflated corporate prices DO NOT equate to improved quality of care. We pride ourselves on offering the highest level of care, and welcome new clients with a full tour of our surgery.

🐾FACT: We have complete control over how we run Jack’s with no orders from ‘higher up’. This means we can truly make our decisions based on you and your pets needs.

👀 FACT: We have always promoted transparent and fair pricing. We listed our prices on our website as well as in our reception space from Day 1.

💰FACT: Many medications can be bought online at lower prices than we pay our wholesalers. We are always happy to provide written prescriptions.

🛰FACT: We have invested in some amazing equipment. However, that DOES NOT mean it is required in every patient. We will always be up front about diagnostic and treatment options.

💙FACT: We love animals and want to get to know them. We assign each pet a primary and secondary vet and nurse, who can get to know them over the course of their life.

All of this ensures we can provide the very best of care, while doing what we love, and always, always keeping you at the forefront of what we do.

Ever wondered how vets monitor anaesthetics in cats and dogs during surgery?

Veterinary Anesthetic monitoring is similar to that found in any human hospital. With the latest equipment at Jack's, we keep every patient as safe as possible during every surgical procedure - from routine neutering and dentals, to cancer treatments and emergency surgery.

Here's how we do it:

- The RVN (Veterinary Nurse) is the most important monitor during an anesthetic procedure. This professional staff member is trained to observe and monitor the patient throughout the entire procedure, from induction until recovery. The nurse works alongside the veterinary surgeon to adjust anesthetic levels according to the patient's vital signs and ensures that the patient remains stable throughout the procedure.

- The Electrocardiogram (ECG) shows the rate and pattern of the heartbeat. It will detect and show abnormal heartbeats called arrhythmias.

- The Blood Pressure Monitor measures the systolic (when the heart contracts or pumps) and occasionally the diastolic (when the heart relaxes or refills) blood pressure. Coupled with other monitoring equipment, this gives detailed information on the cardiovascular status of the patient.

- The Respirometer measures the number of breaths per minute.

- The Core Body Temperature is monitored by inserting a temperature probe into the esophagus. Maintenance of normal body temperature is especially important in pets and aides in speedy recovery from anesthesia.

- Pulse Oximetry may be used to monitor the amount of oxygen in the patient's blood (Sp02) and the pulse rate.

- The End-tidal C02 Monitor is often used in conjunction with a pulse oximeter. This device measures the amount of expired C02 and helps determine of the patient is receiving adequate oxygen during anesthesia.

At Jack's, we have the latest anaesthetic monitoring systems at the surgery and all of our staff are trained to the highest level - because we believe that providing the best care available is a MUST.

📢 "I have many, many pets so have to visit the vets far more frequently than most people. From simple health checks, microchipping and neutering of our new babies to being able to spend last precious cuddles on a sofa whilst saying goodbye to an old friend, I have been overwhelmed with the kindness, generosity and compassion from all the staff at Jack's.
Their exceptional care for owners as well as our pets shone through when, during a family emergency, they stepped in to help with respite care for Scrumpy, our special needs cat!

They're not just extra nice though. This cat is, as we speak, recovering beautifully after life-changing/saving surgery that I thought would require referral to a specialist centre, if attempted at all. Totally up-front about their experience, the risks and the total cost from the start, I had complete faith that Maryam and Lisa would only continue if, at every stage, they were sure it was in his best interests. We're still only a week past surgery and, so far, we are all amazed at how well he is recovering!

They truly are exceptional. Moving over 10 pets, especially when I had no concerns about the care from our previous vets of about 15yrs, felt a little uneasy (staff turnover had started making me feel a little anonymous and long-term health issues had to be repeated often.. but nothing at all complaint worthy!) But I am so very thankful that I took the leap.

They are a fantastic modern take on very old-school values and we are so very grateful (none more so than Scrumpy, who looks happier than he has in years!!) Thanks guys, you've definitely got it right! ###" 📢Rhian Costigan
