Todayโs training exercise. Zorro is having a fairly easy time of it over August, mainly just hacking, but we had a little play today in the mรฉnage just to mainly work on me and my straightness. Itโs something I struggle with following various injuries. So set myself a task of simple changes with no stirrups and limited my hand use by holding a whip across the two hands to form a bridge so as to keep my hands from doing it all! Itโs an exercise I like to do with lots of my clients as it really does focus the brain on what else needs to work instead of your hands! And of course the no stirrups adds an extra challenge (although note that I avoided trotting with this exercise ๐คฃ๐ซฃ). The simple changes arenโt perfect, but this was more about me today and the change of bend coming from my legs and seat than getting Zorro perfect ๐

Professional photos of the weekend and a few others ๐ค. Zorro the absolute star that he is! Thank you to all the people who helped get us there, it really was touch and go as to whether we would get there or not. Main thanks have to go to my amazing kids who looked after their dad who was just out of hospital with double pneumonia while I was away, and to Emma Thompson Warren for coming with me! And thanks to all the many others that helped, you know who you are ๐ค, but if I name you all this post will turn into some sort of weird Oscar style speech which is just a bit embarrassing ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ.
So most importantly which of this photos should I frame ? Someone please help me decide ?!๐ซฃ

Little boy Zorro gained two qualifying tickets to the BD Nationals at Novice Silver and Novice Silver Freestyle at Little Mill regionals this weekendโค๏ธ๐คฉ
So lovely to be out again at a big show, been a while ๐คฃ. Thanks to Little Mill for running a super friendly event, and lovely to catch up with people Erica Drozd. Thank you Emma Thompson Warren and Bryley Llewelyn for grooming and support, and Sharon Latchford for doing the stables, especially welcome as I spent most of the weekend coughing and sneezing ๐๐คฃ

Love these โค๏ธ
1. Arrange poles around your arena as per the diagram, below โI use a three figure approach with my young horses: circles, to check the horse is loose and supple; straight lines, to check you can control the bend, that you donโt have to have it if you donโt want it; and corners, to represent ....

The face of an angel - my gorgeous Candy, 17 years young and retired from competition but the only horse that I can practise canter/trot/canter transitions on a circle with no stirrups, reins in one hand and with my eyes closed ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Everyone needs one of these in their life โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

First off can I draw peopleโs attention to the fact that we are mismatched matchy which according to Sarah Walker is all the trend ๐คฃ. 5 year old Nola feeling much more grown up from the scrawny 3 year old that arrived in 2021. God is she bouncy! I have upped my core workouts to be able to stay with the bouncing !!!!! God knows how Iโm ever going to be able to do sitting trot on her ๐

Just a very gentle reminder to all my lovely clients that I operate a 24 hour cancellation policy - full payment is required if you cancel less than 24 hours from your allotted time. ###x

We have a vacancy for a keen student to get some hands on work experience and assist with the day to day management of top class dressage horses.
This is an ideal opportunity for an ambitious young person to be part of a professional team which offers the chance to learn and improve their knowledge of training competition horses on the flat whether for dressage or eventing.
Own horse welcome

Bottom photo is Nola a year ago (weird triangle patch on her arse is where I clipped her to get rid of rain scald ๐๐), top one is of her today - definitely growing stronger ! Time to get her back into work after her winter break ๐

Hi all, as the long summer days are now upon us I thought it would be nice to run a regular evening flatwork group at Gower Riding Club. What does everyone think?
I was thinking 7pm-8pm to give those people that work a chance to actually get there, and ยฃ20 per person (non-members ยฃ25) so a bit of a cheaper alternative to 1-1 clinics! I'll keep the group small, absolute max 4 people, with priority for Gower Riding Club members of course. I can do a mixture of polework, flatwork and test riding, and if anyone has a real desire to leave the ground I thought we could have one as a jumping lesson ๐. Dates as follows:-
11th July 7pm-8pm - flatwork
18th July 7pm-8pm - Pole work
25th July - flatwork and test riding (7pm-8.30pm for this session, group lesson then can run through tests individually with me judging and then can give extra feedback - you'll need to let me know what test you want to do if you want to do one ! It's not compulsory!)
15th August 7pm-8pm- polework
22nd August 6.30-8pm flatwork and testriding
29th August - 7pm-8pm Nervous/Novice jumping
If anyone has any other suggestions do please let us know! to book in email [email protected] - You can also have private lessons on Monday earlier if that's more your thing. Just ask. x

I couldnโt resist these photos of Flo from her first ever little outing to Gower riding club Show at the weekend, thank you KDM photography and thank you Gower Riding clubโค๏ธ.
Had a lovely morning and funnily enough won the class as we were the only ones in it ๐๐๐- judge chose to ignore the fact that we had an unplanned canter out the ring at one point ๐. However pictures missed all the naughty moments and only caught the good bits ! Iโm not going to complain about that ๐๐๐

Finally getting round to getting Nola started; a rather busy work schedule has meant that she has constantly been put on the backburner since I bought her back last October ๐ - sheโs a rather lovely 4 year old by Indian Rock. She is one gorgeous mare ! So excited about her โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
17/02/2022
Safe to say lessons are cancelled tomorrow ๐จ๐จ๐จ๐๐๐- letโs just hope itโs not as bad as forecast ๐ณ
01/12/2021
Rug on ๐ช only took about 6 weeks of ground work to get Nola used to the flapping sound so she wasnโt running away terrified ๐- but we got there in the end - sheโs definitely one sensitive lady ๐๐๐

Well Iโd better actually formally introduce the latest one ๐ - this is Nola, who is a rather lovely unbacked 3 year old - Indian Rock x Wynton... โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Iโve been very quiet on here over lockdown, so thought Iโd better actually let you all know Iโm still alive ๐๐๐ Iโve been rather busy to be fair, with a few changes on the horse front (couple of new ones ๐๐), and with kids off Iโve been flat out !!!! But the kids start back to school W/c 12th April so you never know I may have chance to breath ๐๐๐
Iโm still coaching adhering to strict COVID protocol. I can now offer group lessons for under 18โs but for adults itโs still 1:1 for a little while longer ๐. Look forward to seeing everyone out and about soon - itโs been a long winter !!!
17/12/2020
I have a slot just become available for Christmas jumping fun at Oaktree Equestrian if anyone fancies a quick pre-lockdown outing ! Iโll have a course up - Christmas fancy dress optional ๐คถ๐ป๐๐๐ 23rd December 1-2pm is free ! Pm to book ###x

Well itโs just a bit windy ! Our yard is on a headland so if you think itโs windy inland try coming over to us ๐จ๐จ๐จ๐๐๐ Three worked this morning, saved the safest, lovely Ella, to last ! Good job as by then wind gusts had picked up to over 50mph. However, as always she was a total star ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐คฉ๐คฉ๐คฉ.
