Our dogs are there to be part of your family, and to protect your family whenever necessary. Whilst personal protection dogs absolutely have to protect, they are very different
animals to military dogs and most police dogs or working security dogs. These working dogs usually perform one role only and only in tandem with specialist handlers. They are generally not encouraged to socialise and usually don’t make good pets as they are normally not encouraged to be accepting of outsiders. A genuine personal protection dog though has to pack more muscle than these working dogs, must be able to think for itself when needed, and at the same time needs impeccable social skills to bond perfectly and easily into a family unit. In short, personal protection dogs must be as happy playing with the children as they are neutralising the threat from an armed robber. Knowing how to select the right dogs for this role, and then being able to train them into it over many months takes a great amount of knowledge and a deep understanding of both the animals and the clients they will ultimately work with. Bowie is flying through his training and as he is maturing, he is growing into a very substantial dogand certainly not one that your average criminal would want to take libertys with.

IBailey has been a long term project as we acquired him as a youngster but good things are worth waiting for and Bailey is about to graduate as an A1K9 family protection dog and is now ready to be reserved ~ Interested?

It says much about your history and reputation when clients travel long distances to visit you, even more so when they drive half way across Europe to bring their dog for training! Nox has now been with us for a few months and wil be leaving A1K9 in a few weeks time, having passed through our residential obedience training course and the advanced family protection dog course. I am sure that his owners will be delighted by his accomplishments and I think it will lead to some more similar work from their friends and family back in Germany.
Many people are aware that we offer residential obedience training courses, however, not so many know about our protection dog training courses, which are dependent on capability and temperament testing and exclude certain breeds.

Thankfully the weather was dry here yesterday and I managed to get out with the camera for a change!
I miss being able to share pics of the dogs more frequently but the non stop rain, cold and dark skies doesn't do much for the pictures, me, or the photographic gear so my apologies.
Anyway, here are a few pics of A1K9 Bow, one of our female, imported Malinois, who is currently progressing well through her intensive training to become an A1K9 family protection dog. Bow is a super sweet female who just seems to take everything in her stride, including, efficiently dealing with bad guys when she has to. An awesome family protection dog in the making, ideally suited to someone with an existing male dog, who is looking for a protection dog in female form.
I often get asked why I don't post more pictures and here is the answer ~ wet dogs and dull backgrounds never look as good. Here is A1K9 Bow, one of our imported Malinois females out in the rain today. The action shots aren't too bad but I guarantee, she will look a million times better when I take more pics on a bright day and the big plus is that I won't get soaking wet taking them.😀
Took some pictures of Rico, one of our Malinois males in the sunshine yesterday just before our group run. He is a super young male, who is great with kids, accepting of other dogs and is a dedicated protection dog when he needs to be. With only about a month of training to go, this boy is literally smashing every task we give him and is on track to graduate with honours!

There were about 15 protection dogs and a couple of trained obedient pets enjoying the sunny afternoon and a break from training, they all had a blast!
Amy, one of our imported Malinois females, now well into her training and on track to becoming another top flight A1K9 family protection dog. This super compact young female certainly does not project herself as a highly capable security operative, being quite happy to play the role of a doting family pet but trust me when the chips are down, she is ready and waiting to be called upon to use her specialist skills. Don't judge a book by it's cover!
Two of our highly trained famiy protection dogs, A1K9's Viper and Ellie. They look so good togethrer, we are seriously contemplating training them to be a working pair!
They look great together and the two combined would provide some serious protection and stopping power.
I wish there were more dogs available with similar looks and ability as this handsome fellow.
A1K9 Dante one of our imported, male, German Shepherds is nearing the completion of his training as a family pet and protector and has proved right through his training that he is every bit as able as he is good looking. I never tire of taking pictures of this dog, which is a shame as he is already reserved and will be leaving us soon!

The beautiful Anya, one our female German Shepherds, trained as a family protection dog ~ cbilling in the winter sushaine.
Its not only the young dogs that enjoy coming back for some top up training....
Here is Kaiser who was originally trained with us some 12 years back. Knocking on the door of turning 13 and he is with us again while his owner is in hospital.
He might be getting on a little but still enjoys his exercise and a little training too showing the youngsters how it's done. :)

Not all Protection Dogs look like protection dogs and not all are of the calibre that A1K9 produce. Here is a Giant Schnauzer we are training as an executive family protection dog and as you can see, his skill set is already pretty impressive. Note to any burglar, watch thief or robber, give this boy a WIDE BERTH or you MAY live to regret it!! Thought I would share this video, an impromptu chat/ interview with Mandy Platt one of our protection dog clients at A1K9. Mandy has a very active Instagram and is often extolling the benefits of having an A1K9 as part of the family. She last week picked up her second A1K9, a German Shepherd female to live alongside her male GSD and the family’s pet Labrador. She asked if we could do a short video chat to answer a few of the many questions that she is asked by her friends and followers, so her it is. You will notice that there are no dogs around us during the clip, purely as it was 28 degrees and they would have been cooking on the decking but we are hopefully going to be filming at Mandy’s home in the near future so watch this space.
