Unusual for me to be on the other side of the camera, however, Rhys was in charge of pushing the buttons and managed to take a few pictures of me whilst out with some of my smaller dogs out on a run with some of our bigger ones. For those who think that we only have and train large breeds, here you will see some of the smaller ones.

It was lovely to see A1K9 family protection dog Pepper, one of our trained Malinois females leave us for her new home earlier this week to take up residence in the Home Counties.
It certainly goes to prove that when visiting A1K9, one should really come here with an open mind, as the clients who selected Pepper had originally come down to look at male German Shepherds, however, they felt but something a little smaller in stature may work better bearing in mind that they have a 3 1/2 year old and a newborn.
Rhys thought that as maybe Pepper was lighter on her feet and physically smaller that she might be a better fit and less likely to knock the children over.
They were certainly surprised when they saw her protection work capabilities as despite being several kilos lighter than some of the male dogs, she proved herself to be equally as effective utilising her speed and agility, not to mention her tenacious character.
I think the thing that really sealed her being picked out was the fact that she was so happy to interact with their 3 1/2 year old, being happy to lap up all the affection that he was bestowing upon her.
I am sure she is going to have a super life with her new family I'm just gonna be a much loved pet as well as being the capable protector that they also required.

Meet Rick, the latest recruit to join our training programme to hopefully become a future A1K9 family protection dog. This super, semi long haired, male, German Shepherd, is actually a UK bred dog, who wowed us with his natural abilities during the aptitude and suitability tests we carry out with all of our prospective candidates.
Rick passed all with amazing ease, now we have to see how the initial training shapes up but I have to say that I'm quietly confident that he is going to be an A grade student, only time will tell

We seem to have a run of our trained Malinois leaving A1K9 for their new homes over the last couple of weeks.
Today, A1K9 Tyco left us for his new family home, where he will be spending time with the family and also pairing up with their in-house close protection team.
One thing for sure is that this boy has both temperament and capability in bucket loads and if he tells you to go away, take his warning as a gift and leave. Good luck in your new home Tyco.

A1K9 Ari left us a couple of weeks back to take up his position as both pet and protector with one of our very old clients who bought their first A1K9 over 20 years ago. He has fitted into his new home superbly well and is living alongside A1K9 Zanni, a German Shepherd female we supplied to the family a few years back.

Initially, a little sceptical about the idea of incorporating a Malinois into the family home, our client is delighted at how well Ari has settled into life with the family and his calmness around the house.

As I mentioned, this gentleman originally came to us over 20 years ago I'm just now on is 4th A1K9 protection dog, so he is well aware that we typically under promise and over deliver, so when we recommended Ari as being a perfect fit for their family he was inclined to take us at our word even after reading much of the hype on Google about how Malinois are too high energy and do not have an off switch.

It looks like A1K9 got it right again, the result, a happy returning client and a happy dog in his new home!

Some sad news to report.
A1K9 Cyrus, who we initially sold to my old friend and client Keith Flint, sadly passed away yesterday, having been lovingly looked after by my good friends Frank and Fiona since shortly after Keith's passing in 2019.
Keith always said that if anything happened to him, would I ensure that his dogs were properly looked after until the end of their lives, which is something I was able to help with.
Cyrus was born on the 10th February 2011 and passed yesterday 21st September 2024.
Having spent from 2014 to 2019 with Keith, being his constant companion and protector until Keith died in 2019, Cyrus went to Northumbria to live with Frank and Fiona, before they relocated to the mountains in Spain two years ago, taking Cyrus with them.
Because of his high profile, Cyrus was known as Dave to all those who met him after Keith's death as his last duty as Cyrus was when he lead Keith's funeral procession right through Bocking in Braintree, Essex, the sight bringing more tears to what was already a very sad day.
Rest in peace now Cyrus/Dave and who knows you might get to meet up with my old friend and original master. You were a truly super dog and a great ambassador for the breed and for what we train for at A1K9.

Bowie, our Dutch Herder,family protection dog, pictured here next to my pals old Porsche.
This super dog is a gem to work with and is so laid back, that is until he has a job to do.
Who needs a car alam or bollards when you've got a Bowie. 😀

Family protection dog Luna out and about today and taking a ride on the quad too!

This little lady still has some more training to complete before being ready for her future home, however, she is quick to learn new things and is incredibly eager to please.

A good strong show of strength can make all the difference, giving a would be assailant the chance to re-evaluate ther position and walk away.
A meanngful bark up is often all that may be required to de-escalate a situation quickly~ but if not our protection dogs have learned to deliver a variety of different solutions.
Why settle for second best when you can have an A1K9!

Thought I'd share some good news for those who may be contemplating buying a family protection dog in these very uncertain times, or thinking of getting their dogs' obedience in check.
