So big new last week, eBay is about to ban selling live animals very very soon… we realise this is going to impact a lot of people selling off their home grown frags, and this can be a huge source of tank maintenance funding - so what’s the answer moving forward? How do you move on all those lovely growing corals when Facebook and now eBay is out of the question?

Well give us a call!

We absolutely love taking in homegrown corals at our store. It’s a win-win for everyone. Homegrown corals are stronger than wilds, we have more variety in store, it helps pay for your hobby, and it means less are taken from the wild. It’s a total slam dunk!

At our shop we give 1/3 livestock credit for the value of the coral. All you need to do is call us, email, or message us. If it’s something we’re looking for, we’ll schedule a time that works for you, you bring in the corals, and you take home whatever livestock you want in exchange!

But there are always a few things to keep in mind… always make contact first! It’s really awkward turning someone away as they’ve brought in 18 square feet of monti that we really don’t want.

Try to make it easy! If you bring in ten lovely, formed monti frags, you’re in the clear. If you bring in a football-sized chunk of mushrooms on a rock that’s going to need a lot of work to make it saleable, the credit will reflect the hours needed and bandsaw blades we’ll kill in the process… you might not end up with a lot once we factor in our time and equipment…

But we’ll always be honest. We won’t take advantage of you, so if we say we’ll sell it for £99, you’ll find it in the trays the next day at that price. It’s a long-term exchange in our eyes. We have customers who have been bringing in corals for years and barely spend a penny of ‘real’ money in their tanks in doing so.

So, if you usually sell through eBay and that avenue is shut, reach out to us or your LFS. They may not give you as much as selling for cash, but it should certainly be much easier. You can even offload quantities rather than one at a time - a no-brainer!

If your not of the salty persuasion, we also take in freshwater friends! We try to stock the store with as many locally sourced gems as possible, for the most part we only sell bristlenose that are locally bred we also take in shrimp, snails and fish, again with these there are restrictions on what we can take so if you have an abundance of cherry shrimp or persistent fish breeding at home give us a ring or send us a message to see if we can help you out and in doing so helping us to increase the availability of locally sourced aquatic life!!!

These items have proven really popular with customers over the last weeks and it's been a struggle to keep them in stock.

The Rs mysis is good high quality food for both freshwater and marine fish consisting on whole pieces of mysis shrimp.

The First bites copepods can also be hooked up to an auto doser to be fed consistently throughout the day.

Today we say goodbye to an amazing manager!

Sian is leaving us for pastuers new, to say we are gutted us an understatement, in the 15 months you looked after the store you absolutely transformed it! From new displays to new layouts, no part of the shop was safe from you! But in doing all that work you have catapulted the store into a destination for fishkeepers.

We hope we can continue to steer the store in the same direction you showed us!

A truly heartfelt thank you from your team and no doubt a lot of customers!

We are pleased to announce the launch of our Plant of the Month promotion this February at Maidenhead Aquatics Swansea Enterprise Park, kicking off with Microsorum Pteropus.

This very hardy, light green plant is great for all types of aquariums. It can be easily attached to wood, stone or the rear wall. The rootstock must always be kept above the growth medium. It is also suitable for paludaria.

Our new fish delivery is in, and boy is it a good one. Pictures of our new stock will be posted over the next few days as they settle!

For the time being here is a photo we were sent of a very special fish that was a requested order into the store for a customer recently.

Photographed here is a stunning male Betta macrostoma! Unlike bettas we are more used to stocking in the store this fish is a large mouthbrooding species, which means when it spawns the male will raise the fry in his mouth instead of a bubble nest. This fish can grow upto 10cm and will live upto 5 years with special care requirements of very acidic waters, lots leaf litter, floating plants and hiding places.

Although this pair has sold we do currently have a pair of Betta rubra in which are much smaller mouthbrooders, imbellis which are a wild strain of bubble nesters and a range of fancy finned bettas.
